Because we are too rebellious. I cannot envisage people staying indoors for any length of time

Apparently in Italy the police have been arresting anyone without a valid reason for being out.

Slazengerbag · 15/03/2020 19:06

I think when people start to get arrested like they do in Italy then people will take it seriously. There are still too many people in social media saying it’s just the flu

Bluepeace · 15/03/2020 19:07

Ha do we have enough police to do that though...!

BadEyeBri · 15/03/2020 19:08

Where are they putting the arrested people?

Hoggleludo · 15/03/2020 19:11

My father got sent home today. He's in Spain. He went out for a bike ride

The U.K. police have been given the ok to arrest anyone with corona virus out in public or so my dh said.

Hoggleludo · 15/03/2020 19:11

Sorry. I meant he got sent home by the police. Spain are on lockdown. He was out for a bike ride.

Bagelsandbrie · 15/03/2020 19:13

It will never work here. No respect for the police and people don’t have any money to be fined! (Half serious).

TotesGodsWill · 15/03/2020 19:14

Too many idiots who don’t think rules apply to them, who think their pathetic excuse for not following quarantine is an exception, who are incapable of understanding the current extremely basic guidelines. You only have to see on here people asking if they can send feverish/coughing DC to school, saying they can’t possibly not go for a run.

Maybe it will sink in when other countries get it under control and we’re still “taking it on the chin” and the other countries ban all travel to and from the uk and people can’t go on their holidays they might start taking notice

Fallsballs · 15/03/2020 19:14

There aren’t enough police where I live...they could call in the army though 😲

Jamieson90 · 15/03/2020 19:15

Only way it would work is if there are soldiers and armed police on the street and say an on the spot fine of £2000.

belay · 15/03/2020 19:18

Well there will be huge mental health issues because staying inside with kids is horrendous. Teens are going to be incredibly bored and screen addicted too. Seriously, not a joke

OP posts:
Everyexitisanentrance · 15/03/2020 19:19

The problem for teens will be in internet access goes

blossombabies · 15/03/2020 19:22

i don't understand this. i have four kids (one in year 8, two in yr 6 and one in yr 3) and i have fully explained to them what is more than likely about to happen. i cant imagine any one of them 'rebelling' it is what it is .. we are all in this shit together and we don't get a choice.

thinkfast · 15/03/2020 19:22

Spain are fining people up to €30,000 for breaking the curfew. Must people wont want to risk that kind of fine if something similar happens here

june2007 · 15/03/2020 19:22

Rates of death still going up in Italy as well so is lock down working?

belay · 15/03/2020 19:24

My son has ADHD. He does lots of sport as a coping mechanism and he won't manage being confined in our small terraced house. I can't physically stop him going out, so when the boredem becomes unbearable the police will have to bring him back I guess !

OP posts:
SallyLovesCheese · 15/03/2020 19:25

I have a friend currently in Dublin who says the army are currently out to make sure people don't go into the centre.

kayakhala · 15/03/2020 19:27

Well think about the gangsters in London and their stabbing crimes,I’m more concerned about their reaction than the virus itself.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/03/2020 19:27

Fining people, reducing benefits, arrests etc have all been used to make people comply. In South Korea authorities issue detailed descriptions of people and their movements which effectively shame them into compliance

ChrissieKeller61 · 15/03/2020 19:27

This blows my mind, if a policeman/woman tells you to do something you fucking well do it. When did it become optional

MadgeMak · 15/03/2020 19:27

Hmm
MitziK · 15/03/2020 19:29

People are too stupid.

Which is why there's a casual mention of the Armed Forces being ready to 'support the emergency services' in briefings. This doesn't just mean a few medics and the Green Goddesses out for fires.

Basically, it means soldiers with guns.

idontlike789 · 15/03/2020 19:29

Who is your dh ? I'd like the police to confirm this .
I also think it would be highly impossible to enforce as not enough police and where will we put all these ' criminals' ?
I've watched the news tonight no mention of police arresting anyone in Italy just that they were using drones and telling people to go home .

Hoggleludo · 15/03/2020 19:30

@belay

How old is your son?

codenameduchess · 15/03/2020 19:30

It will be difficult to enforce without going to the extremes Italy (and Spain?) have.

My DGM has been strongly advised to socially distance, 85 with many, many health conditions including leukaemia, but refuses. Today she left the house without telling anyone to go via a busy city centre to visit someone in a hospital. The person she was visiting doesn't have CV but there are people at the hospital being treated as it is one of infectious diseases hospitals.... her reasoning was 'life goes on and I'll die one day anyway'. No concern at all, and she's not the only one i know thinking like that.

Just look at the ludicrous behaviour over loo roll, that mentality is simply not compatible with compliance or the greater good...
