Because we are too rebellious. I cannot envisage people staying indoors for any length of time

@Dk20 people are not only adhering to it - for the most part - they were calling for it last night after those videos emerged from Temple Bar, and I think one from Cork. Certainly all of my friends were appalled and overall think very highly of FGs management of the whole situation

AutumnRose1 · 15/03/2020 20:16

Kaya “ Well think about the gangsters in London and their stabbing crimes,I’m more concerned about their reaction than the virus itself.”

I’m on nodding terms with them locally, I’m hoping they can help me if I need to break any rules 😉

BirdandSparrow · 15/03/2020 20:16

@BirdandSparrow no saying our MILITARY (NOT army) will use force on citizens being outside is hilarious, people here have lost all sense of reality. We are not a communist state, this is not Ebola. I'm not saying it isnt serious and I'm not saying life isn't about to get very shit, but some of the utter scaremongering shite coming out of some people is unreal.

spain is not a communist state either. It is not scaremongering. I am saying that people bleating about "lockdown won't work here" have no idea what lockdown involves. if the govt decides to lock you down like Spain and Italy it will be made to work. I don't mean the army out shooting people, I mean there will be fines or arrests for breaking the conditions of the curfew and these will be applied. You don't like hearing that because you don't want to have your lives so restricted. Neither do we.
Maybe you won't be put on lockdown and the govt will continue itss plan to just let you all catch it, I don't know. But the idea that "lockdown won't work here" is naive and wishful thinking.

Peapod29 · 15/03/2020 20:16

Well going to the supermarket is far more dangerous than getting In my car and going to a forest with zero other people. Not sure why that’s funny. As I said, you can barely get police to come out in a life or death emergency round here, there is simply no way they are going to stop us country side dwellers going out for a walk and nor should they, as it’s not a risk to anyone.

crustycrab · 15/03/2020 20:17

Hoggle why you calling me "he"? Bizarre. It's all very well thanking the poster who, like you and Sam, was spreading misinformation and hysteria on the internet. There's no need for it and it adds to the problem.

What you said is wrong, what the poster who defended you said is also wrong.

But let's for us on me allegedly being "nasty" Hmm. Ps - Sam is winding you up. Am I not allowed to suggest that now?!

BackInTime · 15/03/2020 20:17

If we follow Italy with hundreds dying every day, then perhaps we might start to take it seriously and stay inside. 368 people died in Italy today. This is coming to us soon and the sooner people get on bored with what is going to happen the better.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 15/03/2020 20:19

How will the police arrest anyone if they have to stay six feet away?

Too far for a taser. They'll have to shoot you.

To be serious, we know about what happened in the WW2 Blackout. Massive crime wave. All hushed up at the time.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/03/2020 20:19

Italian police are enforcing it. They release daily figures of how many people have been caught outside without the correct paperwork authorising them to be out. The stats did not include what the consequences were.

idontlike789 · 15/03/2020 20:19

So will I get arrested for walking my dog ? And then what ? Who will look after my dc while I'm in prison ?

UYScuti · 15/03/2020 20:20

Hopeisnotastrategy
I hope you're OK?
I've heard mention that higher rates of smoking on older people in Spain and Italy account for some of the higher death toll, what's your take on that please?

Gwenhwyfar · 15/03/2020 20:20

A friend is in northern Italy. They're still allowed out for walks, etc. just that places where people gather are closed down.
The idea that British people are more rebellious than southern Europeans is hilarious to me.

Shopgirl1 · 15/03/2020 20:20

SallyLovesCheese

I have a friend currently in Dublin who says the army are currently out to make sure people don't go into the centre.

This is not true, we are not yet in full lockdown in Ireland and the army are not out stopping people going to the city centre, I drove through the city centre this afternoon. There are rumours about it being possible if a full lockdown happens, and there was a fake whatsapp message about it.

idontlike789 · 15/03/2020 20:22

So I won't get arrested for walking my dog ? phew was getting worried then for a 2nd . Grin

Genevieva · 15/03/2020 20:23

How are Spain dealing with farmers and other people who live in rural areas and keep animals?

mantlepiece · 15/03/2020 20:24

I am really disturbed by the parents that say they can’t stop their teenagers going out.
When did that happen, teenagers being in charge?

So now when the chips are down, these same teenagers face arrest by police or army.

Surely these same teenagers obey teachers, doctors, employers?

Babytigerrr · 15/03/2020 20:24

Can you still go to work in a lockdown if you cant work from home then?

Surely people arent expected to just not work for 6 months or however long?

VodselForDinner · 15/03/2020 20:24

My son has ADHD. He does lots of sport as a coping mechanism and he won't manage being confined in our small terraced house. I can't physically stop him going out, so when the boredem becomes unbearable the police will have to bring him back I guess!

Your attitude is awful. Maybe recognise that emergency services will be very stretched and you actually need to parent and not outsource that to the police.
I can guarantee you that if there was some tangible negative impact on your for letting him out, you'd keep him in.

I have a friend currently in Dublin who says the army are currently out to make sure people don't go into the centre

Hello from Dublin.
Your friend (or you) are full of bullshit.

OchonAgusOchonO · 15/03/2020 20:25

@SallyLovesCheese - I have a friend currently in Dublin who says the army are currently out to make sure people don't go into the centre.

Given they're only preparing to go on code yellow from monday, I rather doubt that. I would also expect one or two mentions of something like that on twitter, at least.

2020runner · 15/03/2020 20:26

So so glad I live on a farm, we HAVE to go out to check the stock and I'd hate to be cooped up inside with my kids. I really do feel for people in cities right now, the idea of being told you cant go for a walk just seems crazy, I understand itll be necessary but it just seems crazy

IceniSky · 15/03/2020 20:26

If it gets to the point where they say there is to be a lock down, there will be a lockdown. Anyone doubting that will be in for a shock.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 20:27

Havent RTFT but those moaning about self isolation need to read the Diary of Anne Frank and understand what the ultimate in self isolation was. They had no internet then. They also had to be quiet as a mouse as if the Nazis heard them they would die. They lived every moment utterly terrified someone would shop them.
Yes it is shit being stuck inside but with modern conveniences we have no fucking idea how lucky we have it compared to those in the past.
I truly feel for those without funds / support, and families with children of a young age or disability where they will struggle to understand why we have to self isolate but the rest of us need to get a grip.

YourWinter · 15/03/2020 20:27

There are massive chunks of society, of every age, race and socio-economic background, that have zero respect for the law - policed or not. The police can't manage existing crime levels, let alone civil unrest. There is no culture of obedience. I guess democracy has a whole lot of disadvantages.

My son's wife is Chinese and he has been living and working there for several years. The differences are immeasurable.

Squigean · 15/03/2020 20:28

Because we are too rebellious

I'm sorry, are you referring to British people here?

😂

BackInTime · 15/03/2020 20:28

If you said a few weeks ago that they would lockdown Italy, Spain and France people would have scoffed and said that it won't work. Until a few days ago people were still planning on going ahead with Easter travel plans abroad now countries are closing borders. Do not underestimate what will happen next, this is the biggest health crisis of a generation.
