DD had temp of 38.2 and sore throat. Do I send her to school tomorrow?

@Elouera and others if you don’t know- ibuprofen isn’t recommended for coronavirus or other infectious diseases. Paracetamol for pain relief... nothing necessarily needed to reduce temp.

Rhubarbpeony · 15/03/2020 19:52

To all of the arseholes being dicks on this thread - wouldn’t you rather people asked for advice about things they’re not sure of?!

There is no such thing as a stupid question. It should always be ok to ask a question if you don’t know the answer. You aren’t big or clever for being horrible in response.

Montybojangles · 15/03/2020 19:53

“Wasn’t sure if it was a viral thing”. What, like corona virus you mean? The advice is very clear. Temp or cough (doesn’t need to be both) then stay home for 7 days.

sunshinesupermum · 15/03/2020 19:54

lunar1 which parent (coronavirus or not) sends a child to school with a temperature? A temperature signals something is wrong healthwise and it's sad to see Mums not knowing this.

GaaaaarlicBread · 15/03/2020 19:54

Gosh everyone is so quick to be snarky or mean. OP was asking a question , it’s new to everyone and we have it drummed into us Most the time that we have to go on our day to day activities at work/school even if we do have a fever or a bug because of short staffing , pressures of attendance, so all of a sudden being told to isolate for 7 days if you have even a slight temperature can be confusing to people. I think OP gets the point , but be kind !
I hope she feels better OP x

Thefaceofboe · 15/03/2020 19:54

You have clearly posted this to get a reaction, grow up

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 19:54

Incoming joke so settle down people:
Yeah of course. Send her in to nick some loo roll and hand sanitizer.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 15/03/2020 19:55

She should be off anyway if she's that poorly. Coronavirus or not.

IsisCam · 15/03/2020 19:55

Wait so how about helping to develop the HERD immunity?

Abracad · 15/03/2020 19:56

God I’m depressed. This kind of nonsense is what is going to contribute to rapid spread and deaths. Here’s a suggestion - if you wouldn’t send your sick child to spend the day with a frail, sick 80yo then keep them home.

anxiousnow · 15/03/2020 19:56

Love how #bekind is so apparent on this thread.
Op, at least you asked. So you didn't act irresponsibly. You were unsure, so checked.
If people are scared to check in fear of getting jumped on, then more mistakes happen.
Keep your little one isolated and hope she feels better soon.

pooiepooie25 · 15/03/2020 19:56

Wtf - of course not

RuffleCrow · 15/03/2020 19:57

Btw i hate the phrase 'using a school as childcare'. School is the closest thing to childcare that exists during school hours. And show me a branch of childcare that will have a child with suspected coronavirus Hmm

RuffleCrow · 15/03/2020 19:58

*for a child of school age

CoronaVera · 15/03/2020 19:58

No one has experienced this before. It's new to all of us. Well done for asking.

Stay in and keep away from other people, especially vulnerable people, if anyone comes to the door etc. And if you come down with it, don't forget that the isolation clock starts again from when you get ill not from when DD did.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/03/2020 19:59

This kind of nonsense is what is going to contribute to rapid spread and deaths.

Are you referring to the OP or the foul, judgemental responses showing lack of consideration and any empathy for others?

mollymoggs · 15/03/2020 20:00

Yes keep her at home self isolating for seven days op as you're now well aware. If the family can stay home too that may be sensible but is not official guidelines yet.

As for some saying a temperature of 38.2 is really high it's really not. Please don't worry unnecessarily or start dosing her up too much. Unless she's actually in pain calpol won't do much except make you feel better when taking her temp. Hope she's better soon.

Rhubarbpeony · 15/03/2020 20:02

What - calmly asking a question and then accepting the advice straightaway?

You’re right, this truly is a sign of the end of days.

@Rhubarbpeony that even the question needed to be asked to strangers on the net

That's what people find frustrating

MacronsPENswiper · 15/03/2020 20:04

Don't blame op, this is why, what's been advised won't work.

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 20:05

@mollymoggs - thank you. x

UnaCorda · 15/03/2020 20:05

No, keep her at home. Sit down together and read the news. Maybe even practise some basic comprehension exercises aimed at Year 4. Hmm

hurryupautumn · 15/03/2020 20:06

@anxiousnow - thank you. Much appreciated. Xx

Why is it being unkind to expect a bit of thought? As others have said even without Carona about, sending a child into school with a temp is not advisable anyhow. How about the OP being kind to society and being more informed about the community let alone global issues that are happening. We all have a part to play.
