I thought some of us might find it useful to have a Mumsnet thread specifically dedicated to tracking, discussing and analysing the national and global Covid-19 data.

Direct sources of data include:
The UK govt daily update
and
worldometer global data

Today's UK figures have not yet been released. Yesterday was as follows:

UK
March 14th 2020:
Cases: 1,140
Deaths: 21

This is similar to Italy's figures on the date February 28th/29th.
Their March 1st data= cases:1577 deaths:41

I'll add today's numbers when they are released.

So at the same period Italy was 827 and we are 422.

That's significantly less.

Barracker · 24/03/2020 20:10

631, not 827, but yes, definitely less.
Let's just see how this week develops. It's very important to maintain hope.
But also important to guard a little against the potential fear and panic that might ensue, if figures fluctuate back up.
I'm trying not to read too much into one or two days of variation. I think we may be in for a very long haul. I'm trying to prepare emotionally for that possibility.

This thread is really useful thank you for the links and daily charts. I do have one thing to say about the death rates..

People will die before the results come back we've had it on our ward a few times already they were negative but displaying symptoms and tested so even that figure isn't 100% accurate for on the day deaths. I'm not sure if Italy were the same in terms of how long tests take and how many tests they can do per day?

LilMissRe · 24/03/2020 22:00

The death numbers are truly awful. Awful.
I understand we are a few weeks behind Italy but how many weeks behind France and Spain are we? I can't believe the numbers I'm seeing there.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 24/03/2020 22:52

We may see a different trajectory from country to country.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 24/03/2020 22:59

Thanks for the thread. I was thinking we were a little slower than Italy but wasn't sure where to look.

So did BoJo flatten the curve? I guess we'll know in a few weeks time!

soberfabulous · 25/03/2020 04:05

scrimpshawthesecond precisely. Let's hope our trajectory is different. Right now the Uk is 50% less than Italy at the same point.

Eggcited · 25/03/2020 06:47

Right now the Uk is 50% less than Italy at the same point.

50% ??

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 25/03/2020 07:46

What do they actually mean by ‘two weeks behind’ Italy anyway?

Do they mean that Italy’s ‘Day Zero’ (the first day that ten or more deaths were recorded) was two weeks before ours? Or were we tracking 2 weeks behind them with confirmed cases before the deaths began?

Only I hear/read that phrase a lot and I thought I knew what it meant, but actually, I’ve never seen it defined.

soberfabulous · 25/03/2020 07:54

Eggcited apols, my maths is off. very long day today.

631 italy 422 UK. can someone cleverer than me say what the correct percentage is.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 25/03/2020 07:58

I'm waiting to see what effect Cheltenham Races had on our area specifically but on the numbers overall. Our local paper has reported an increase of 17 positive tests (total 49) overnight. I can see this replicating for the next week and a half at least.

Utterlybutterly8 · 25/03/2020 08:48

Do they mean that Italy’s ‘Day Zero’ (the first day that ten or more deaths were recorded) was two weeks before ours?

@Barracker posted a chart a while ago that started comparisons on 22nd February (Italy) vs 7th March (us). At that point Italy had one death and we had two. The chart compared the number of fatalities every day from then on.

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/03/2020 13:22

Was it this one?

Utterlybutterly8 · 25/03/2020 13:39

That's the one - thanks Neuro. I wonder if there's an updated one now.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 25/03/2020 13:42

Thank you!

Some of the graphs only start from 10 deaths (this one, for example) and I am easily confused!

Brunelofbrio · 25/03/2020 17:42

Does anyone know what time they publish todays statistics? The govt website was last updated at 9am yesterday?

BuckingFrolics · 25/03/2020 17:48

So what is the %age of deaths against cases? Wasn't the DR supposed to be around 3%? What is it now, anyone know?

Sosounhappy · 25/03/2020 18:06

Can't find today's numbers

user3274826 · 25/03/2020 18:20

They usually announce it on the 5 o'clock news but today they announced the UK figure, omitting England's! (Only adding on Scotland Ireland and Wales) I was surprised the jump was quite low, and then I realised it had been worded in such a way you might not notice. Elsewhere it says it will be announced 'later'.

hopefulhalf · 25/03/2020 18:38

That's ominous

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/03/2020 19:27

A slight tangent, but this man (an ex nurse/ teacher) is sharing lots of studies on the virus, and explaining them.

Eggcited · 25/03/2020 20:31

Any sign of today's numbers?

I'm getting a bit worried as they don't seem to have been released. Confused

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 20:34

Me too

Fartintheloft · 25/03/2020 20:35

And me!

Frownette · 25/03/2020 20:45
