Do most people think this has been handled very badly?

Even though people maybe disagree with my other thread about it MAYBE being exaggerated I think most people would agree it has been handled very badly. I only found out that it was their strategy to let it go through the country from Nigel farage (who I think is self-isolating lmao). They haven't communicated anything at all about shutdowns etc and BJ seems to be like a rabbit caught between the headlights and has show zero leadership. They haven't explained how people should eat drink when isolating how they should manage their kids etc. I don't think he will be voted in again maybe even Corbyn would have been better.

This is what happens when people believe what they see on the Internet. Eton is on a "short leave" which seems to be what they call it when they give the students the weekend off, which they do periodically. They're back tomorrow as usual.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:19

Andrew Marr talking about all of this at the moment on BBC1.

adaline · 15/03/2020 09:30

Is everyone clamouring for lockdown employed by a public body where they expect their jobs to be safe, even without any custom for months?

No. I'm self-employed (as is DH) and I still think we should go into lockdown if that's what will work. My mum has asthma and both my PIL's are elderly with underlying health conditions. It's clear from all the threads on here that most people aren't going to do anything to self-isolate unless it's forced upon them, so that's what the government will have to do.

If people weren't so selfish then maybe they wouldn't have to consider such draconian measures, but while people are convinced the advice doesn't apply to them, or that they can still go for a run/walk the dog hen isolating, then nothing else will work.

idontlike789 · 15/03/2020 09:30

Yes I think regarding the supermarkets telling people not to panic buy there should be some statement from the government instead where are they ?.
Boris has caused this mass panic telling us that 80% of the population could get it and that we will loose loved ones . Thanks for that Boris so is that it are we off to fend for ourselves? .

Greendayz · 15/03/2020 09:37

We could do with more clarity about how many weeks supply of food we should have in the house. At the one extreme I've seen people on here saying they cannot go four days, whilst clearly others have stocked up with months worth. If they would say "you should have one week's worth" or whatever it would help many the people who really do need to stick up take sensible action, whilst reassuring those who have more than that that they don't need to buy more.

SnoozyLou · 15/03/2020 09:39

It will end in a complete lockdown, but we could be taking some sensible steps. Some parents can and want to keep their children at home - why shouldn't they be encouraged to do so?

greathat · 15/03/2020 09:44

I just want us to follow advice from the WHO. I don't think that's unreasonable

effingterrified · 15/03/2020 09:44

Yes, it has been handled appallingly.

Testing has been ended (except in hospitals) so when the isolated elderly all die at home, noone will know.

But our stats will look great, compared to international comparisons.

Lovely jubbly, job done, that's reduced the pension bill nicely. And reduced future costs to the NHS.

Travelban · 15/03/2020 09:45

Do posters on here seriously believe the rest of Europe is not following scientific advice? So is it that the whole of Europe is a bunch of hysterical idiots but the UK is thr only country who is following scientific advice? Or maybe you believe that scientists in the UK are more intelligent, especially ones who work for thr government? And how about the 290 UK scientists who signed a letter saying they do not agree with government scientific advice.. Are they all misguided?

LKLZ · 15/03/2020 09:46

Pls check my numbers.. herd solution is 60% that is 40m with virus.. 1% death rate is 400k !!! But let’s just carry on as normal!

Letseatgrandma · 15/03/2020 09:47

Exactly what I keep saying.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:47

Yes this has Boris Johnson’s hallmark all over it. Lazy, lying and selfish. And of course we have a government that is more concerned about money than about people.

SnoozyLou · 15/03/2020 09:48

@effingterrified I think it took Trump all of 2 hours to add us to the list, didn't it? I don't think anyone (with the possible exception of some in this country) is falling for it.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:48

Matt Hancock is on BBC1 now talking as if he is on Blue Peter Hmm.

SnoozyLou · 15/03/2020 09:49

@Travelban Unfortunately, I think a lot of people are labouring under the notion that we are special in some way. It's bizarre.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:50

Apparently we are guided by the “very best science”.

The rise has been slower than in other places in Europe apparently Hmm. Nothing to do with the reduced amount of testing then.

Travelban · 15/03/2020 09:52

Exactly... I am so scared as I don't trust this scientific government advice at all.

buttonmoonb4tea · 15/03/2020 09:54

@Helpmechangemymindsetplease I watched that. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights. He doesn't have a handle of this at all.

Doyoumind · 15/03/2020 09:54

The places that are in lockdown won't be eliminating the virus. This is with us for a long time and it will come back and hit a lot more people in waves. Lockdowns aren't about getting rid of it. They are about slowing it down.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:55

Yes but in the meantime we might have a vaccine.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:56

He does @buttonmoonb4tea.

ferntwist · 15/03/2020 09:56

Great comments @KittyJune. Are you in Hubei province?

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 09:56

(I mean he does look like a rabbit in the headlights).

buttonmoonb4tea · 15/03/2020 09:57

@Travelban same here, I've been saying this for days. Myself and my children are at home with CV symptoms.

We should have been tested. I don't trust the 7 day isolation advice. How do I know that I
A) have or have not got CV
B) if I have it, will NOT be able to infect others after 7 days

The advice is based on nothing in my opinion. No evidence has been published to back up this advise.

adaline · 15/03/2020 09:58

Do posters on here seriously believe the rest of Europe is not following scientific advice?

It seems so.

Lots of people think it's all a load of nonsense and that any rules around social isolation etc. don't apply to them because it would be inconvenient or difficult.
