Do most people think this has been handled very badly?

Even though people maybe disagree with my other thread about it MAYBE being exaggerated I think most people would agree it has been handled very badly. I only found out that it was their strategy to let it go through the country from Nigel farage (who I think is self-isolating lmao). They haven't communicated anything at all about shutdowns etc and BJ seems to be like a rabbit caught between the headlights and has show zero leadership. They haven't explained how people should eat drink when isolating how they should manage their kids etc. I don't think he will be voted in again maybe even Corbyn would have been better.

No not particularly. I didn't vote for the Baffoon. He's an idiot but he's got a very clever man advising him. Thank fully.
Thousands will die unfortunately. I know people do not like honesty but even in countries that are planning to arrest their citizens for not self isolating thousands have still died.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 06:38

The point is that if Italy had gone into lockdown earlier, they would not have the death toll that they do have.

Why do we have to wait for that many to have died to take stronger measures?

bizzybuzzy · 15/03/2020 06:42

I do think people need to consider how people behave here as opposed to China.

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 06:47

People in Italy have accepted the social isolation measures. They are not so different to us.

Saturdaysnotforexercise · 15/03/2020 06:47

BJ is following the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Officer. If he ignored them, he would have a lynch mob from hell on his case.

For the left, politics is everything and everything is politics. For the rest of us, judge things on their merits. Disagree if you choose, but playing “my expert is better than your expert” is a bit tedious.

adaline · 15/03/2020 06:48

Look at all the threads we've had already - full of people asking if they can go for a run or take their kids to the park if they're self-isolating because there's just no way they can cope otherwise. If you have symptoms you need to stay at home for at least seven days and people are reluctant to do it for 24h!

severalboxes · 15/03/2020 06:52

The cabinet was formed with brexit in mind.

It's full of people who don't listen to experts and who were appointed as a reward for ideological loyalty rather than competence.

I don't trust them to make the right decisions tbh.

InfiniteSheldon · 15/03/2020 06:54

Could be worse could Corbyn making the decisions, or just fencesitting and panicking more like.

I see these posts from two sides to be honest:

  1. They are just posting for the sake of it.
  1. Some people these days really can't think for themselves and when their offspring start saying "but mummy/daddy I really need to go out NOW!!", they can't cope with a tantrum and put their foot down and for once tell the child to do what they are bloody well told.
bizzybuzzy · 15/03/2020 06:56

Hasn't Italy said if you don't put yourself under self isolation you could be charged with murder?

Zampa · 15/03/2020 06:59

I don't trust our current Cabinet members but I do hope that they're sensible enough to listen to their expert advisors and place more importance on our health than the economy.

I think the issue is that the public has been continuously told not to trust experts on matters like Brexit, so like good subjects, we're now not trusting the advice we're being given.

I am worried about how we will all cope for jobs, rent money and food once this is over but I'd rather be alive to deal with it!

EmmaBridgewater20 · 15/03/2020 07:03

@Casino218 you’re talking bollocks, sorry, those countries outside of China that imposed stricter measures and were honest about the seriousness from the start have not seen thousands die anyway - that’s the whole point they’ve managed to halt and stop, look at Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and even Iran who’ve managed to arrest the spread.

It’s not tedious it’s probably very wise to point out there’s experts and then there’s a couple of experts on conservative party’s payroll!!

My husband works for a large NHS trust in the North West. They only had definitive contact from PHE at the end of the week before last - too little too late.

Snogood · 15/03/2020 07:03

The government has been very clear in its communication. I can't be bothered to say more than that.

cyclingmad · 15/03/2020 07:03

From the moment you are born you are on a countdown to death . We will all die one day. Just accept that.

You can't save everyone and he is being honest and thank god he is. Also since when do people list...his honesty has at the very least hammered the point home enough for people to sit up and listen.

Now stupid do you have to be to not understand when told to self isolate for 7 days that means stay at home dont come into contact with other people.

How stupid do you have to be to have a government tell you how to eat or drink...fml

bizzybuzzy · 15/03/2020 07:04

the economy is important though because austerity also kills

bizzybuzzy · 15/03/2020 07:07

I think it's good they said people will die, it certainly made me take the situation more seriously & think about the more vulnerable people I know & how I can help them.

@philcornwall1 oh absolutely some are posting for the sake of it and to wind people up.

But there people who just don't seem to give a toss (I've seen it online and in real life) and who are going out regardless because their need to go for a run or to the shops is more important than staying home for a week.

And it's why the government is reluctant to enforce lockdown at this stage!

middleager · 15/03/2020 07:10

What are we doing differently to Italy? Our 'plan' seems no different to acting when it's too late and look how that turned out.

I send my asthmatic son to school and there is no guidance for asthmatic teens.

A teacher friend in Spain cannot believe schools and events still open. He has warned me that what he is currently experiencing in Catalonia will hit here very soon.

This has been underplayed and even yesterday when out nobody is taking it seriously.

I'm angry at the waste. We had a window into Europe. We could see how this would play out. Not only did we watch but then we delayed and now we are still delaying.

Pixxie7 · 15/03/2020 07:11

@phillcornwal1 it can’t be easy or healthy for kids to be stuck indoors for any length of time, let alone little ones. There has got to be a way around it.

PZrs1Ndy · 15/03/2020 07:12

School threatened with fines if they close
I was told by a colleague, I am a teacher, that the schools and colleges have been threatened with fines and will be sued if they close. This is why they are preparing but not taking action.
The government intends to force us to catch this whether we like it is not.
This angers me and I want people to share this information so people demand answers.

HelgaHere1 · 15/03/2020 07:12

Yes, a good wake up call.
No one knows how this will pan out. What if people isolate for weeks/months (take your pick) and the virus is still around after that.
This is an Act of God.
If you want to self isolate do it - tell school/work that a relative has it. You don't need someone to hold your hand.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 15/03/2020 07:16

@adaline people are also really really stupid as well!

@middleager I read an interview last night where the scientific advisor was asked about advice for immunosuppressed children and he had none - just repeated the hand washing chant. Absolutely pathetic!

Helpmechangemymindsetplease · 15/03/2020 07:16

School threatened with fines if they close

That’s shocking. Also shocking is the fact that parents will be faced with prosecution should they decide to keep their children at home.

QueenOfThorns · 15/03/2020 07:17

I can’t deny that the government is following the advice of certain experts, but I do wonder what brief those experts are working to. Have they been asked to provide strategies to minimise deaths, or to reduce the impact to the economy at all costs? Sad
