Omg. The next step in the strategy. And if we all stick together it may work

Next step in UK strategy. Lock down all the over 70s (and other immunocompromised - kids / adults) for 4 months. Lock them down. Then make it illegal to close schools. That means we gain immunity to the virus as a population and keeps the beds open for the unusual cases that are not foreseen.

Do you have a link to an official statement/list/anything which says what’s considered something that makes you ‘at risk’ ‘underlying conditions’ etc. I’m trying to work out what my risk factor is

jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2763184

  • age
  • hypertension
  • diabetes

Why are you assuming herd immunity will be a thing? There are already people who have caught it twice.

alloutoffucks · 15/03/2020 23:16

If you believe what the government is saying about herd immunity (I don't), then not everyone will get it. 60% will get it. So why would you risk your kids getting possible side effects if you don't have to? Take them out of school and wait for herd immunity before sending them back.
There will be plenty of "its only the flu" types sending their kids in.

No, that is highly doubtful. Just google "have people really caught covid19 twice?"

While technically there is a chance it won't be with this virus, it's a very very small chance. Made smaller by the fact that the viruses genome has already been mapped and it's very similar to other viruses (SARS) that people become immune to.

Most scientists are not saying the UK approach is bad because herd immunity isn't a real thing. Almost all accept that eventually all countries will achieve that with COVID 19 anway. Their problem is more with the apparenly deliberate method of doing it in the UK.

alloutoffucks · 15/03/2020 23:32

That is a lie. Other countries and WHO are trying to eradicate the virus. Please don't spread things that are simply untrue.
Disagree all you want, but start from facts.

AngelicaKauffman · 15/03/2020 23:40

That is a lie

Which part? Nothing you said even contradicts what I said.

I'd be interested in a concrete link that says the WHO is trying to "eradicate" the virus though.

Bool · 16/03/2020 11:02

@AngelicaKauffman ah somebody well educated about this on here! Yes I am interested in how we eradicate this virus too. Am waiting....

I don't think we are trying to eradicate it. Countries are working on a vaccine. The UK has not said herd immunity is its thing (and obviously we all know herd immunity scientifically is true) but just that we are timing our measures on scientific advice.

I see the results from the macaque experiments www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.13.990226v1 in China show that reinfection does not occur in SARS-CoV-2. So once you have had the virus you will then be immune from it.
