Butlins and Coronavirus

Due to take family to Butlins on 23rd. Their website states they have taken extra measures etc. But would you go. AIBU to wait to see they close and then they will refund me my 700 pounds or just go and hope for the best. Has anyone recently come back and if so what precautions are in place.

I wouldn’t be going anywhere currently with large numbers of people. I’d rather lose money than risk illness.

Duchessofblandings · 14/03/2020 09:59

No we would not go.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 14/03/2020 10:01

I wouldn't go.

We all have a responsibility to manage the spread of the virus to ensure our health services can cope. For me, part of that is avoiding situations like that.

FthisS · 14/03/2020 10:03

We have a break booked there in April. We won't be going, we love butlins and go five times a year but centre stage can accommodate around 2000 people. The pool gets so busy and they never keep on top of keeping the changing areas clean in Minehead. There is a petition to shut Minehead resort because the town has a large retirement population.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 14/03/2020 10:03

We're going on a similar holiday starting tomorrow (not Butlins). Where we're going has greatly depleted numbers of visitors apparently. Wait and see what happens over the next week.

Leobynature · 14/03/2020 10:04

I would go! You can’t put your life on hold for a possibility. As long as everyone in your party is healthy with a strong immune system and they follow precautions, I think it will be safe enough. There are 160,597 road accidents per year but we still get in cars 🤷🏽‍♀️

joffreyscoffees · 14/03/2020 10:05

I would still go

EsmeeMerlin · 14/03/2020 10:06

We are going on Monday, someone I know is already there and messaged me last night to say they are very on board with it. There are hand gels everywhere, they are making sure people use them, they have been cleaning everything including all the tables and high chairs after someone has vacated them.

donkey86 · 14/03/2020 10:21

I’d go. We’re going to Centre Parcs in April, so long as it’s still open then.

Kitsandkids · 14/03/2020 10:31

I’m due to go in April. As long as it’s not shut then I’ll be going. You can’t live your life in fear. I’m very fortunate that no one in my immediate family has health issues so if we get it we will likely be in the 80% who experience little more than a cold. This situation could last months. I’m not putting my life on hold indefinitely.

PurpleDaisies · 14/03/2020 10:33

I would go.

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 14/03/2020 10:36

I'm due to go in May & as long as they don't cancel, I'm still planning on going as it currently stands.

MrsAJ27 · 14/03/2020 10:37

No way...it is breeding ground for germs!

Msmcc1212 · 14/03/2020 10:40

Minimising social contact will slow the virus spread down and give the health service a better chance at looking after the more vulnerable. That’s the thing to weigh up. The risks to you and your family might be low but you might be asymptomatic carriers and spread it around without knowing.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 14/03/2020 10:41

I wouldn't. It's quite enclosed with the big top area and entertainment.

mollymoggs · 14/03/2020 10:48

It'll probably close anyway. I'm sure it would count as a mass gathering of sorts. Disney is closed worldwide and I'm sure others will follow suit. Don't cancel, wait till the last minute as if it closes you'll be entitled to change your dates or a refund.

I wouldn't fancy going there if it does stay open though, people everywhere, kids touching everything and then their faces. Massive breeding ground.

AudacityOfHope · 14/03/2020 10:48

I wouldn't. Butlins is the filthiest place I've ever been in my life. If they are doing extra cleaning that might bring it close to 'somewhat clean'.

leghairdontcare · 14/03/2020 10:50

I was going to book for summer and haven't. Let's face it, if you need to rely on other people practising good hygiene then Butlins is not the place to be.

Witchend · 14/03/2020 10:51

I'm due to go in April. If it is open we will go, but I suspect it won't be.

Snaketime · 14/03/2020 10:52

We are due to go to somewhere similar on Monday.

TypingError · 14/03/2020 10:56

I wouldn't. Being lucky enough to be young and in good health is not the issue. It's the capacity to spread it to others.

Polkadotshot · 14/03/2020 11:02

We're supposed to be going soon. I haven't decided yet but I currently think if I'm not isolating ie still have to get buses oh still had to go work etc then it's an extension of that and we could catch it on the bloody train that's an enclosed place and I'm still having to get trains. I'm up in the air with this one. I don't know what to do either??

Wendalicious · 14/03/2020 11:30

We are going for Easter and waiting to see what they say x

InsanelyTired · 14/03/2020 11:32

We are also due to go next week and undecided.

Hotcuppatea · 14/03/2020 11:38

We are due to go at the end of the Easter holidays. Obvs will be keeping an eye on how things progress, but if I was booked for next week, we'd be going for sure.

How much do you normally worry about being around germy human beings? If you have booked a Butlins holiday, I'd suspect, not much. Considering that most of us will only experience very mild symptoms if we do get infected, why would this holiday be different to others?

My biggest fear with COVID-19 is that we are all going to talk ourselves into a recession that is deeper and more damaging to ordinary families than the banking crash.
