Butlins and Coronavirus

Due to take family to Butlins on 23rd. Their website states they have taken extra measures etc. But would you go. AIBU to wait to see they close and then they will refund me my 700 pounds or just go and hope for the best. Has anyone recently come back and if so what precautions are in place.

We’re on our way there now.Be healthier than usual tbh x

Humina · 16/03/2020 12:33

Butlins is a germ hole at the best of times. People do not wash their hands. They do not shower before the pool. They grab buffet food with their bare hands. No, I would not go.

ShowYourself · 16/03/2020 12:53

I think you’d be wrong to go somewhere like that. Even if you’re fit and healthy, you could be an asymptomatic carrier. You could have a mild case but be a super spreader and there are many vulnerable people.

I appreciate people need to go to work to keep a roof over their head but going to a place like Butlins is totally unnecessary.

Everyone needs to be do their part to reduce pressure on the health services and to protect vulnerable people.

FthisS · 16/03/2020 19:10

Butlins have just posted on instagram.

bangheadhere40 · 16/03/2020 19:13

What have they posted?

NanSlayer · 16/03/2020 19:16

Igotthemheavyboobs · 16/03/2020 19:24

What have they posted?

Fuck all really.

Butlins and Coronavirus
bangheadhere40 · 16/03/2020 19:25

I'm due to go in 2 weeks

SmileyClare · 16/03/2020 19:36

Will you be eating at the buffet style restaurant where all the food is laid out for hours for all the holiday makers to cough over? There will be people at the resort with coronavirus.

Agree with pps saying it's not necessary to go and is potentially spreading the virus to vulnerable groups.

Vinylsamso · 16/03/2020 19:40

Spoke to someone in Bognor, weekend just gone. They said it was really busy. Loads of hand gel and staff very hot on cleanliness.

FthisS · 16/03/2020 20:13

Sorry I didn't realise I didn't post the actual butlins message, I did mean to Blush
Surely they have to shut, we have been told to avoid pubs, clubs etc.

bangheadhere40 · 16/03/2020 20:29

Unless they close they won't refund

SmileyClare · 16/03/2020 20:43

Current advice is to avoid pubs, restaurants, theatres etc so how is Butlins any different?. It's not immune because they're cleaning it and offering hand sanitiser. Confused

It's disappointing for your family but I think it's irresponsible to go.

Fluffynoon · 16/03/2020 22:38

We’re due to go to Bognor one in two weeks. I’m holding out hope that they close and we can get a refund. I don’t want to go.
If not we will tell them we are symptomatic and change our dates at least til things are a little more predictable.
I have friends who work in a&e - children and otherwise healthy people aren’t immune to this virus (regardless of what the popular news is telling usually us.) perhaps less likely to be greatly affected but it’s not a given and children and normally healthy people are becoming very very sick because of it.
Even the risk of picking it up and not knowingly passing it to others. It’s just not worth it.

summersocks · 17/03/2020 23:49

I've a break booked for June and have contacted Butlins to cancel awaiting reply.
My husband is in the high risk category so no way will risk it for a few days away on Butlins.
It gets way too busy and we are trying to avoid crowds and shows.
I'm seeking a refund and will book something at a later date when things are more settled.

Msmcc1212 · 18/03/2020 06:19

Giving up our holidays and social events is a small price to pay to save lives. Literally, that’s what we are doing. Every minimised contact, every cancelled holiday - saves lives. If you have cancelled anything or missed out on anything you are a life saving hero. Butlins is a no go. Be a hero - don’t go.

Jojofjo44 · 18/03/2020 11:19

Due to go on 27th April. If they don't cancel, and they have had no cases, we will go. We don't have the luxury of dismissing £550 that we have taken all year to pay for, it's our only family holiday.
I'd rather not go at the moment, but unless we are guaranteed a refund or replacement holiday to our liking we will.

Duchessofblandings · 18/03/2020 11:23

Hand gel? Oh well that’s alright then. Bound to protect you when someone coughs in your face.

This thread is deeply depressing.

changedtempforprivacy · 18/03/2020 13:50

I've just received the following email from Butlins - advising they are closing from 20 March to 16 April, but not offering a refund, just to rearrange dates. I wouldn't mind normally but I wouldn't be looking to change until easter 2021 as we have 3 more holidays booked at butlins in 2020...I'm not particularly impressed..

We are aiming to manage your booking in the way that suits you most. When you are ready, we're offering all guests the option of:

  1. Make your decision later. When you are ready, call or email us to book any time in the next 12 months. Plus, as a thank you, you will receive a £50 resort voucher when you re-book.
  1. Email us with your choice of a new break at any of our three resorts for any date, valid for 12 months from the date you were due to arrive. Plus, as a thank you, you will receive a £50 resort voucher when you re-book.

• If your chosen break is cheaper, we will refund the difference
• If your chosen break is more expensive, you will need to pay the difference

  1. Transfer your break to our sister brand Haven, who have 40 stunning coastal caravan parks. Email us to discuss a Haven holiday, [email protected]

It may take us up to 28 days to get back to you. As you can appreciate, we are experiencing a high number of calls and emails and of course we need to support our team members who we are also looking after at this time. Our goal is to prioritise immediate breakscoming up. We would, however, ask that only those travelling in the next 14 days call us at this time so that we can prioritise these bookings.

We hope you understand that this decision has been made in the interest of your wellbeing and that of our team. Butlin's has been around for over 84 years, and we look forward to reopening and for us all to enjoy our holidays again.

What do I do if I want to amend my break?

The quickest and easiest way to amend your break is to email us at [email protected] When you email, for us to help you amend your break in the quickest possible time, please include:

bangheadhere40 · 18/03/2020 14:19

They have removed the bit about a refund

Keepgoing88 · 18/03/2020 14:28

I have same email. I want a refund not to reboot. Where do I stand on this?!

Keepgoing88 · 18/03/2020 14:29

Rebook I mean!

bangheadhere40 · 18/03/2020 14:35

It said originally they would refund, I think I took a screenshot. Now it's been taken off, can they do this???

Keepgoing88 · 18/03/2020 14:45
