@GalOopNorth I think you're right, it just frustrates me that the official advice is still what it is, no room for bending. I have been finding ways to make it work for my families

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2020 07:20

How do you know it’s due to political mood?

Over 24 years of leaks to their most friendly journalists either explaining strategy (because of growing awareness that public aren't understanding it) or outright defending it.

It's just how this government works.

Something incoming either today or tomorrow at very latest unless I'm mistaken.

They are incapable of transparency and proper channels they have to leak first. It's like a twitch they can't help.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 07:21

I don’t doubt at all that there is big change and good.

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 07:22

But I question what the scientific advice is because it may well be the same.

GalOopNorth · 15/03/2020 07:23

BoJo thank heavens for Heads like you!

Thank you on behalf of parents everywhere. Luckily there are, I think, lots of professionals in schools and businesses making rational decisions even in the face of such unclear guidance on the top! Flowers

middleager · 15/03/2020 07:23

Thanks Bojo for those of us with teens with asthma there is little guidance.

Fraggle45 · 15/03/2020 07:24

Bojo could you tag me In your update please about immunosuppressed parents

I've got ms and am immunosuppressed and considering pulling our 5 & 7 year old out of school very soon

I did ask school on Friday about absence codes but haven't heard back

I don't want to pull the children out for the sake of it as they both really enjoy school but I'm hugely concerned that they'll pass something on to me and I will get very ill

Random18 · 15/03/2020 07:24

Rosain my DS was a regular vomitter. And normally just one.

I think it was just his way of fighting off things.

He is really healthy but I wonder if it's a leftover of him having bad reflux as a baby.

Ledkr · 15/03/2020 07:26

I'm not sure what to do about school and college.
I can work from home so could keep them off and hope that they aren't already carriers but dd18 will still want to see her boyfriend and friends so will it be a waste of time.
Happy to see my mum is finally taking It seriously and staying home though.
I coughed a few times during the night which is not usual for me but feel ok now.
I am going to push the boat out with work and say I am not attending meetings and visits (SW) but will do them via Skype.
So far they have left it to clients to say if they have symptoms which I feel is really unfair and disregarding our own health .

MurrayTheMonk · 15/03/2020 07:26

Didn't sleep well and still feel grotty. Preparing for dd1's meltdown when I tell her we can't go to Westfield today. I just wouldn't feel it sensible to go now plus feel rubbish. That kind of logic doesn't appeal to her 14 year old mind usually however.

RedToothBrush · 15/03/2020 07:27

RedToothBrush is there a cobra meeting planned for today?

Quote from Sunday Times
Johnson will chair a meeting today which will impose the new rules this week - two weeks earlier than medics and scientists had expected last week

AspergersMum · 15/03/2020 07:30

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but are schools going to be using Code B for students learning online from home? Is there a chance that they could implement that from tomorrow for students with valid concerns for themselves or vulnerable family members at home? @BoJoMoFo ?

WhyNotMe40 · 15/03/2020 07:31

I'm sorry but Matt Hancock saying that herd immunity has never been part of the plan is complete bollox.
However, I welcome it as it signals a change to the current policy.
Go Matt Hancock! UturnsRS Grin
I am also horrified that they are only now calling for more ventilators. What a waste if time - they've been given plenty of warning! Fiddling while Rome (UK) burns....

I hope they do the sensible thing today. Even if it's motivated by the polls showing they are losing support rather than the science they claim to have been following.

Twasbambam · 15/03/2020 07:38

Our school sent an email out saying that attendance rules haven't changed, almost threatening in tone. Think a fair few were off Friday. Stressing the importance of sats (primary).

Unfortunately the dc have a fever starting from Monday for 7 days. And a new cough starting for the 7 days after that.

I imagine things will look very different in two weeks, if not we will think if something they can have for the last few days before Easter.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 15/03/2020 07:40

Just tried to book my weekly normal online shop and sainsburys have nothing at all for 3 weeks. Thats delivery and click and collect. Slots were showing yesterday and I obviously should of booked it then but I am amazed they have sold out of every single slot for nearly a month so quickly!

PoisoningPigeons · 15/03/2020 07:41

I'm sorry but Matt Hancock saying that herd immunity has never been part of the plan is complete bollox.

Absolutely!

Not to mention all the supporters of the government's strategy of doing less than nothing, who were all over the threads from Thursday-Friday going on about "Herd Immunity" and "The Science" and "Not Needing Data" and sneering at anybody who asked questions. I assume they'll soon be smoothly supporting the government's strategy of .

The threads would be a lot shorter if those posters just typed: "I support the government" without the rest of the interchangeable text after it Grin

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 07:44

I think the same re posts who complain no matter what the govt do. Lock us down. No don’t

I could be wrong but government does have to look like its doing something substantive very soon or they risk being exposed to blame for deaths if far higher than elsewhere.

More immediately they risk being faced with having to handle parents pulling kids out of school on mass. This may be real or imagined temperatures. Optics here is important - the government either looks out of control or to have completely lost public trust or its perceived that infections are much higher than they are which causes wider panic and a domino effect of other parents pulling kids.

Or they may face a mass revolt led by unions from teachers - particularly older teachers or those with underlying conditions - over health and safety. Or simply a mass bout of imaginary temperatures from teachers too.

In some ways this is potentially a crisis of its own making because of the way they've handled things so far. Both with coronavirus and prior to that with overall communication strategy which hasn't engaged with large parts of the population.

Lynamic · 15/03/2020 07:47

true marsha. I wanted quarantine a few weeks ago, now I don't want to get trapped with all these sick people

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2020 07:47

Hi really confused now, is the new guidance official?

Over 70s lock down

Whole family stay in if one is ill

Is that right?

MarshaBradyo · 15/03/2020 07:49

I don’t think you’re likely to be wrong about stepping it up.

I still think scientific advice is the important part or leading it. I saw a modeller say he’d put all the old people in the north etc. This is a version of that.

People are rebelling against this 70 plus action anyway so it’s not like they’re getting political points from it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/03/2020 07:50

Thanks BoJo for what you're doing. Teacher here, it must be hard. I can't see our place functioning well for long as we are sen. Though a few children have been taken out due to underlying issues already.
