Are they still releasing county by county case numbers at all? I’m not finding any for today (14th March)

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 14/03/2020 23:14

Apologies if it was posted and I missed it, but has there been research posted into the animal reservoir of cv19?

anonacfr · 14/03/2020 23:15

There's still a lack of clarity regarding children having to self-isolate.
What happens if a child displays severe symptoms? Does that mean one of the parents has to self-isolate properly with the child?

@Oakmaiden I am not in the UK but an area of Europe more affected by the virus.
I had been unwell - cough particularly bad and fever, muscle aches but also non-corona symptoms such as blocked nose. Never was tested and after a week cough had gone but remaining issues were complete tiredness and swollen glands.
Returned to doctor and was prescribed some immune-boosting, herbal medication and told these are signs the body is fighting a virus. Didn't get offered a test at any point and wasn't even asked about whether I had been in contact with anyone etc. So could be a symptom of anything going around at the moment.

It’s now being decided that virus is droplet borne not airborne so no need for an airtight mask. Any old mask such a paper/fabric surgeons mask is fine

Same happening at my neighbouring hospital. No more fit masks being issued, people told to use flimsy surgical masks which all the evidence shows are virtually useless at stopping infection. Purely due to a lack of supply of fit masks and the govt not having taken any measures to address the shortages.

Several staff I know have said they will refuse to treat CV patients if they are not issued proper PPE. GMC and NMC both say you can not be required to put yourself at risk to treat others

Loppy10 · 14/03/2020 23:29

That Hancock Telegraph article is outrageous. Why is it only now that they are issuing a "call to arms" to increase ventilator and other ICU equipment? We've known since Wuhan in January that more ventilators would be needed if we had an outbreak here. For weeks since the infection came to Europe we should have been preparing.
This government seem determined to allow people to die unnecessarily

Loopy I agree. Its a great idea but why not weeks ago?

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 23:37

It’s interesting to see the reaction on the 70+ lock down thread, when so many have been clamouring for harder measures.

People don’t really want it and naturally want to flee control. Even though it makes sense.

ofwarren · 14/03/2020 23:37

Am I getting this right, on that Matt Hancock article, is he now saying we are NOT aiming for herd immunity?

That's my understanding @ofwarren

I'm going to choose to view it as a 'tell' that they're about to do a U turn on their alarming policy

ofwarren · 14/03/2020 23:44

@slurpy
I sincerely hope so.
I've been tweeting the WHO, leaders of other countries and even the Queen today, begging someone to make them see sense.
I feel a tiny bit less helpless tonight.
Fingers crossed it's true

ofwarren yes that’s how I read it

Wehttam · 14/03/2020 23:50

Anyone else feel as though no one actually has any clue what this thing is? One day it’s airborne, the next it’s droplet, the next it’s easily transmissible the next it’s not affecting many under the age of 60, then it is, children carry it, children don’t carry it. What is it!?!?

Either it’s mutation is rapid or there are several strains out there.

Random18 · 14/03/2020 23:51

I don't think they are u-turning on their policy per se.

They have just realised it's been a bit of a disaster so will no longer mention it.

Random18 · 14/03/2020 23:52

The ultimate goals though will remain the same. Infect the population who will have minor / moderate infections whilst protecting those who it will be more serious.

colouringinpro · 14/03/2020 23:53

Loopy I agree. They're incompetent.

Loppy10 · 14/03/2020 23:54

It’s interesting to see the reaction on the 70+ lock down thread, when so many have been clamouring for harder measures. People don’t really want it

I think the people clamouring for tougher measures were mostly younger generation who have been paying attention. It's the older lot that have been blasé, more likely to parrot the "it's just a flu" line, and generally unwilling to make even minor adjustments to their way of life for the greater good. Just have a look a the elderly parents thread to see how many people are getting frustrated at the boomer parents refusing to take it seriously

Janemarpling · 15/03/2020 00:00

I think it's just for some it's unworkable. I like with my parents in their 70s but also a teacher with a child in school.

Happy to isolate but obviously I can't.

Wehttam · 15/03/2020 00:00

loppy yep! The old will not accept this at all. Good luck to them though because failure to adhere to this will mean they are risking their lives. I expect the NHS will follow Italy and not entertain those over 70 for treatment so catching it could be a death sentence for many.
