@Random18 completely agree and I’ve thought exactly the same. But I’m very relieved as my parents are very vulnerable and I know the NHS would be collapsing

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 22:27

As most over 70's don't work it's easy enough for them to self isolate now and make arrangements (let's face it the government wont do much to provide provisions for those who normally buy their own food expecting family and people lucky to know their neighbours' - the working vulnerable cant without poverty hitting them so they need to be dealt with.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 22:32

Cook have said that of you know an elderly person who is self isolating then if you ask in their shops they will give you free meals for them.

Lumene · 14/03/2020 22:33

Sadly for elderly victims of domestic abuse this approach could prove a nightmare:

Angry what else can be done?

We need to keep our lives ones as safe as possible. We can't do that where we have young kids.
If I didn't have kids / husband I would go to my parents and be with them (can wfh). Although I am sure DM & I would kill each other.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 22:34

I have a friend who works in a hospital pathology lab. They’ve all been asked if they would be willing to work in patient facing roles. They have also been told that the hospital is willing to be flexible on shifts of it helps with child care.

SistemaAddict · 14/03/2020 22:42

Holy shit, potentially 4 months in isolation for the elderly? My mum lives alone and all her neighbours bar one, are elderly too. I'm a 30 minute walk away and I'd already said I'd take whatever she needs and leave it on the step. I'm worried for her.

Mordred · 14/03/2020 22:45

By the way, if you're taking Ibuprofen, stop it now.

Wehttam · 14/03/2020 22:45

The supermarkets need to herd these disgusting filthy dirty animals who are raiding shelves and throw them out. Self serve tills closed, no re-entry for 24 hours. Didn’t prep in The 2 months prior notice we had of this watching China burn? Tough, that time hasn’t been and gone.

Rations now, no playing the system.

Fuck off, off you go, thank you very much, next!

CrapTVAddict · 14/03/2020 22:45

What's wrong with ibuprofen?

Twasbambam · 14/03/2020 22:45

Posted this on the other thread:

What about carers going into elderly people's homes, without which some of them may die?

What about elderly people who live with younger working relatives/ school aged children?

What about all those adults who are vulnerable, because of asthma, diabetes etc. who are young, way under 70 and also working possibly with school aged dc?

Seems like a half baked panic move to me.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 22:46

I think a small minority of elderly will choose to risk dying - i knew someone who died last year of that mindset.

colouringinpro · 14/03/2020 22:46

How many over 70s live alone???

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 22:49

The ones will relatives will just have to avoid the family and take percutions - care home patients will stil see staff for their care so similar principle. Many might even move into relatives houses for the duration - no way to stop that even if you discourage it.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 22:50

A lot.

Matt Hancock has just put a piece in the telegraph. Does anyone have access as it's behind a paywall

T'would take a gun, and probably a soldier willing to use it, to make my stubborn mule of a father deviate from his daily routines.

Love him to bits but its true. He'd probably rather die from CV than not see his mates/go down the boat yard.

BarbedBloom · 14/03/2020 22:59

I really wish bloody Boris would actually talk about this tomorrow. There are so many questions with isolating the over 70s. I bang on about this too but I feel as a young immune suppressed asthmatic we are being forgotten about. Letting it run rampant is still going to shut the country when everyone is home sick surely?

Janemarpling · 14/03/2020 23:05

Other measures already being planned include:
the forced requisitioning of hotels and other buildings as temporary hospitals;
the requisitioning of private hospitals as emergency hospitals;
temporary closure of pubs, bars and restaurants - some time after next weekend's ban on mass gatherings;
emergency manufacture by several companies of respirators that would be necessary to keep alive those who become acutely ill;
the closure of schools for perhaps a few weeks, but with skeleton staff kept on to provide childcare for key workers in the NHS and police.

PATIENT ZERO: Authorities say they’ve found the first confirmed case of coronavirus - Wuhan

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 23:11

Gwyneth Paltrow?

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2020 23:11

I jest it’s from the movie

That is interesting

GinandGingerBeer · 14/03/2020 23:11

@OldQueen1969
Tell your friend to send a message via her journal to her work coach to let them know they're self isolating on advise from the NHS. DWP have already put an initial corona virus policy in place and there's info on line.
They will not be expected to attend. Just kept informed, just think in terms of what you'd tell an employer. Hope they're feeling better soon.
