Very interesting @Angryrant55 where is that from?

Violetparis · 14/03/2020 20:14

Agree, those 1000s are someones mum, dad, sister, grandfather etc. People are going to do whatever it takes to try and prevent their loved ones from being in the '1000s' so will self isolate and take precautions regardless of what the government says.

This will confirm the end of the West as the relative power of the last two centuries with likely millions of deaths vs just thousands in the East where the governmental response has been firm and strategic and the response of the people has been steadfast. Just looking at pictures of hundreds of Londoners cramming into supermarkets to pick up supplies, all just cm from each other, none wearing facemasks and there must be coughs and splutters and sneezes galore. It’s horrible.

DonkeyKong2019 · 14/03/2020 20:19

To be fair the east had a chance to prepare after the 2003 outbreak.

Michelle Davies @m_davieswrites
Ridiculous scenes in Tesco Colney Hatch this morning. Shelves cleared like there's been a riot. The selfishness of some people filling their trolleys with multiple packs and leaving none for others is staggering. (Plus so much for getting here early to avoid crowded spaces.)

Some Cabinet ministers are now saying the time has come for PM to be more honest about its downside: 1000s of deaths are likely now to save many more later.

1000s of death are likely now which may potentially save many more later if this experiment goes as hoped .

And even if it was guaranteed, it's still requiring one fuckton of British citizens to be willing to die for the greater good. Nor could it reasonably be expected they would. What's the plan here? Delay and dick about and avoid talking to the general public until it's too late for them to protect themselves and opt out of this grand experiment?

Can someone answer the question about brown inhalers?

Grinchlywords · 14/03/2020 20:21

I have tickly cough, funny chest and worryingly, a soaring temp. Plus feeling of immense lethargy and that weird empty/ jelly feeling in my legs.

Beebityboo · 14/03/2020 20:22

It feels like I'm in a movie. My eldest DD is in such a state. She is 11 and been hearing horror stories from school all last week and her anxiety is out of control despite my best efforts to reassure her.
I know how she feels though. I was 11 when the twin towers fell and it felt like the end of the world Sad. I wish this wasn't happening.

RedToothBrush · 14/03/2020 20:25

We have good community spirit here I reckon

We've not started yet.

When people start losing jobs but can't get benefits because they can't sign on to universal credit or they can't get rent relief because they are renters not mortgage holders because they haven't got an official diagnosis things aren't necessarily going to be as community minded simply because everyone is fucked in equal measure.

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 20:26

Red, that's an interesting theory and would explain why they seem like they are hiding something however I don't have any faith that they can contain this, get people the help they need,.

They have deliberately let the genii out the bottle and we need to take responsibility for ourselves.

I meant my immediate neighbours rather than U.K. but what you say is worrying.

Angryrant55 · 14/03/2020 20:28

ITV- 'Army hospitals will be used.
Lockdowns of cities or parts of cities have NOT been ruled out.'

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 14/03/2020 20:29

beebity I was about 40 when the twin towers fell and my DDs were 2 and 4 - I get you about the sense of the world as we know it ending. I hope you can find a way to get your DD calm.

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 20:30

Scientist on BBC now who called out government. Said they have not seen gov modeling. Who has openly criticised us apparently.

More social distancing.
Major concern of spike of cases, NHS overwhelmed and patients will die because they can't get urgent care.

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 20:31

Spread out cases and lower peak, all eu gov trying to reach that goal but scientist are concerned about our stragety.

woodpigeons · 14/03/2020 20:32

@Iremember I was told by the GP, when my DC who was quite young had a brown inhaler, that the steroids in them don't have the same effect as oral steroids i.e. they were OK.
Maybe a bit helpful but can you check with a pharmacist to be sure.

Oakmaiden · 14/03/2020 20:32

Can someone answer the question about brown inhalers?

I don't think any of us have a definite answer.

woodencoffeetable · 14/03/2020 20:35

Can someone answer the question about brown inhalers?

do not stop taking essential medicines unless advised by your dr.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/03/2020 20:36

I've been lurking for ages, but this quote (Wilfred Owen) comes to mind right now:

The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

I know some people might not mind being sacrificed for the government's plan, but I've no doubt there aren't enough people who would want to do so.

I've just emailed my mum to make sure she knows about the long lead time for supermarket deliveries and also given her the heads up about the quarantine (dad was 70 this week, she's 69 and in poor health).

I've had a weird (I assume) virus recently with a tight, painful, chest and some shortness of breath, as well as an occasional (not consistent) dry cough. No temp though, but some tiredness. No idea what it is, but commuting on the train it could be anything.

Loppy10 · 14/03/2020 20:36

FRANCE NOW AT EPIDEMIC LEVEL. All restaurants, cafés, non-essential services closed. MORE THAN 50% OF THE 300 #COVIDー19 CASES IN FRENCH ICUs ARE PEOPLE UNDER 60; France now has 4,500 cases, which doubled in the past 72 hours, said Jérôme Salomon, head of French health service.

Random18 · 14/03/2020 20:37

feeling very far away tonight.

So many of us live in different parts of the country from our family.

Think I may employ virtual babysitting when the schools are shut and I am working from home.

Well not quiet, but well definitely be Whatsapping lots and lots.

Thankfully DP taking it seriously but would.love to be just round the corner.

I will make sure I help whoever I can here!

ofwarren · 14/03/2020 20:41

Interesting ....More than half the #COVIDー19 cases in French ICUs are apparently under 60
