Apologies if this has been posted already, but I really hope that this turns out to have been transmitted during birth rather than in the womb; that would be a scary development: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8110981/Newborn-baby-London-youngest-coronavirus-victim-world.html

But you know what- it's making a massive emotional difference to the kids. Seeing us sitting in our kitchens with our hair awry, and making jokes with them etc.
It's bad enough for us on lockdown. Imagine being 15.

Wehttam · 13/03/2020 22:17

whereareyousleep if this is vision express or spec savers? We should all call them out on Twitter.

I had a poor checkout girl in Boots saying how they have been given no hand sanitizer, all that cash, sick people buying meds I couldn’t believe it.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 22:18

bookme Flowers and a nice glass of Amarone Wine

Our village FB page has appealed for people to help - drop in shopping etc, take people to hospital. I would help, but... DH immunosuppressed, just seems like I could be exposing us to further issues. So I probably wont.

Horehound · 13/03/2020 22:18

Thought this was interesting. Snp posted this on their FB page today. Shows how many doctors, healthcare workers there are per 100,00 people across the UK

Apparently one of the things to do when self isolating at home is to have your own crockery, cutlery.......and toothbrush!! So said the expert on BBC news just now :)

fedup21 · 13/03/2020 22:30

Final para of the Times main story that the govt will have emergency powers to direct schools and nurseries to remain open

They won’t be able to stay open if they have no staff.

Redrover87 · 13/03/2020 22:32

What was the c4 programme?

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 22:33

Sir Patrick actually thinks the seven day self isolation measures are extreme.

Angryrant55 · 13/03/2020 22:35

@fedup21
Remember schools will probably be allowed 200 or more in the hall with 2 staff for the whole day.

NEW: #coronavirus next steps

  • Govt to stop mass gatherings next wk. Concern about burden large events put on pub services (NHS/police)
  • Talks w biz/other bodies on moving to working from home
  • emergency laws coming: powers to stop mass gatherings/compensate people + more
fedup21 · 13/03/2020 22:36

Remember schools will probably be allowed 200 or more in the hall with 2 staff for the whole day.

I can’t imagine many teachers putting up with that for more than a day-it would be carnage.

The emergency powers, which will be in place for two years, will enable police and immigration officers across UK to detain anyone with suspected Coronavirus

They will be able to detain them for a 'limited period' so they can be screened

SubjectMatterExpert · 13/03/2020 22:39

@Angryrant55, I don’t think Boris WANTS to kill old people. He just thinks that it is acceptable collateral damage to protect the economy; when he can spin the developing herd immunity yarn as justification

And because herd immunity being established in this way IS a POSSIBILITY, he just has to apply enough pressure to get CW and PV to support that approach

The level of care for elderly could be stripped down as pandemic grips Britain

Local authorities will be relieved of statutory duty to meet 'assessed needs'

It could mean people only receive support with washing and cooking once rather than twice a day

Ministers will be allowed to close ports if there are 'insufficient resources' to maintain border security because too many border staff are sick

The Government will be given the power to halt 'any vehicle, train, vessel or aircraft' under the legislation

Measures to speed up funerals among most bleak:

'In a reasonable worst-case scenario the death management industry will be rapidly overwhelmed

'There is a significant gap in body storage requirements to ensure we are prepared for the reasonable worst-case scenario'
