To be amazed at how many people are making excuses

Looking through these threads I'm feeling pretty horrified at the amount of people that either dont seem to be able to understand what self isolate actually means or are already making excuses as to why it can't possibly apply to them ?!?
Have read so many.. oh I'm not going to self isolate, I'm pretty sure it's just a cold. Can I still go for a walk. I need to go out for a run or else I'd go crazy, how am i going to walk the dog, I'd only pop to the shop really quickly

No wonder the schools aren't shutting, and we are not banning gatherings. I really can't understand how people are either not getting this or feel happy to just think sod the risk

Swearing AT some one is

Dog walking is still possible.
I'm not self isolating, I don't have any symptoms and I hope that won't ever be necessary.
I live in a semi-rural area in Southern England and even if I did have to self isolate I would still be able to take my dog for a walk in the countryside directly from my home. I can go for a 2 hours + walk on any day and see very few people or none atall. I just wouldn't take the route to walk via my local village shop to buy milk etc., which is what I have often done in the past.

@IfYoureNotIntoYoga above rant aimed at you by the way.

Willow2017 · 14/03/2020 19:47

I don't even believe that there is a Coronavirus.
And if there is , it is a mild flu. Justin Turdeau's wife has it, apparantly, and saks that she felt very mild symptoms.
Load of panic over nothing.
Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
wish there was a banging your head against a brickj wll emoji

We are in deep doo do folks if this is the mentality of the great british public.

How the fuck can she have it if it doesnt exist? What freaking amazing logic!

IfYoureNotIntoYoga · 14/03/2020 20:06

@ValleyOfTheTramadols
Well I am sure by isolating yourself and your family you will minimise the impact it has to you.
Clearly not going to get thrown in jail as of course if it's made mandatory to isolate I WILL as I have said previously.

Plus I wouldn't have to keep popping out to the shops if I could get what I needed on my weekly shop which I can't because hysterical people like yourself are the ones stockpiling and clearing the shelves.

littlemissmuffins · 14/03/2020 20:07

I get you, Valley .

I'm on just above minimum wage. I've spent all my meagre savings on preparing for this. Masks, food, home school books and materials, thermometer, hand gel. (All weeks ago before anyone slates me for panic buying).

My DC are out of school from Monday, luckily one is old enough to stay in (mid teens) and one will be going to their dads. Logistical issues but still doing it. Also the time taken in teaching them.

I've been walking 8 miles a day round trip to and from work for weeks to avoid public transport.

Been nowhere except work, shops (for what I can't get online), and home. Which is starting to grate but needs must.

Started wearing a mask in work today (retail) and endured stares, laughs, comments, some positive comments.

It's a pandemic. Nothing like this has happened for over a century. Our behaviour has to change. What we are able to do, we should be doing. And we should be accepting that, not wah wah wah-ing and saying I want to carry on as normal!!

managedmis · 14/03/2020 20:08

You can still go outside though? I. E for a walk?

PinkPanther27 · 14/03/2020 20:10

@angell84 are you a clinical scientist?

HospitalToast · 14/03/2020 20:13

No worries. But my point stands. You are an idiot.

The infection is following an exponential rate. Transmission routes seem to be multiple. Hospitalisation rates are more than our system can cope with so people are going to die if we can’t slow transmission down.

This information is freely available and if you don’t respond by social distancing, handwashing frequently and other simple guidelines, you are part of the problem.

I’m on immunosuppressants. I’m early 40s with young kids and the main breadwinner. So thank you for crapping on people like me from a great height with your ignorant attitude.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 14/03/2020 20:15

I wish my mums work would shut down her shop. She has terrible chest issues and she’s dealing with people and money all day and it’s not an essential store (bookies).

She can’t afford not to work though.

JuggleBug · 14/03/2020 20:15

I think it's very easy for some to say 'its only £250 you'd be down' but at the end of the day, for some people that's enough to really put them in the shit.

As others have said, all very well and good talking about mortgage lenders etc... But a lot of the population rent. What about those people?

If it's the difference between being able to feed your kids, I can understand why some people might take the risk in terms of not self isolating for a condition which very well could just be a cold.

It's very easy for those who can afford it to say 'it's only 7 days', 'you'll only be down X hundred pounds a month'. Reality is, some people literally cannot afford that loss and still keep their heads above water.

I think it's a horrid situation, it's scary for the people most likely to be affected severely (elderly and immunocompromised) and it's scary for those who feel they genuinely can't self isolate for every sniffle and cough without drastically affecting their families financial situation. I can totally understand why people are reluctant, it's not an easy decision for some and we need to be mindful of that.

ValleyOfTheTramadols · 14/03/2020 20:38

@IfYoureNotIntoYoga Im not hysterical. I’m concerned with good reason for the life of my six month old baby. I haven’t stockpiled though. Just did a normal weekly shop and will do an online order at the end of the week.

IfYoureNotIntoYoga · 14/03/2020 20:39

@ValleyOfTheTramadols
Another thing, your quite happy to eff and Jeff at people who can't stay inside permanently for the foreseeable, but I think you also need to think about the posters on here who are living payday to payday.

Is it so so bad we want to try keep the roofs over our heads? Our families fed?

Maybe credit rating wasn't the best way for me to put my point across but when such a system is used for nearly everything now and people rely on it for things including renting, buying cars (which may i add is vital for some people) home appliances (people rely on this when large amounts of cash isn't available) and for me personally my job!

It IS a big deal to try keep on finances as best we can in such a unfortunate situation.

IfYoureNotIntoYoga · 14/03/2020 20:42

@ValleyOfTheTramadols
I really hope your baby Son will be ok.
It must be a worrying time for you.

isittooearlyforgin · 14/03/2020 21:00

Why can’t I walk my dog if I am self isolating? I wouldn’t meet anyone, we live amongst open country side. How could anyone be infected from that?

Abouttimemum · 14/03/2020 21:01

I’m amazed at how utterly hysterical people continue to be, quite frankly.

aivilodraw1990 · 14/03/2020 21:06

OP - I assume you’re not privately renting?

PinkPanther27 · 14/03/2020 21:32

@NastiestThing that is one of the nastiest things I've read 😢

theblueflowers · 14/03/2020 21:40

What's wrong with walking your dog or going for a run? Where did Government advice say this was not allowed? It's not airborne- that's just ridiculous.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 14/03/2020 21:44

If people still got paid properly they would self isolate, but they aren't, so will probably got to work with mild symptoms. By the way, £250 is not a small amount of money to some people. How incredibly ignorant.

If the government gave a shit about stopping this they would ensure that most of the entire nation won't be up shit creek without a paddle, but they won't, and there lies the problem.

fatimashortbread · 14/03/2020 23:00

I really don’t see why if you are self-isolating you can’t go for a run or cycle ride as long you don’t go near anyone - risk of transmission is low

WyfOfBathe · 14/03/2020 23:19

I do have sympathy for people who honestly can't afford to self-isolate without risking homelessness/hunger/no power.

I do not have sympathy for people who could afford it somehow, even if it means credit card debt or similar. And I'm furious at people not doing it because they'd just rather not.

I grew up in council housing, and am grateful that we have a country where people who can, help those who need it (ie taxes and benefits). But now we need the same attitude towards not spreading the coronavirus. Nobody likes paying taxes, nobody likes being isolated, but we do it so that the most vulnerable are able to survive.

Banj0girl · 15/03/2020 00:16

The only way it seems to beat this virus is for as many people to self isolate as possible, cough or not.
At the moment I am on self isolation for the 7 days mainly because no one in the house can truly self isolate. We only have one bathroom ! My DH is on a high risk list with a slight infection and health issues. I am on it because I am over 60. Our son is trying hard to stay away from us ! Not a bad idea under normal circumstances.
As to later, we shall just have to see how things develop.

janeskettle · 15/03/2020 00:32

OMG, everyone should be staying home from non-essential outings.

People who can stay home from essential things like work should do so.
They will be helping people who must go to work, either because the government is forcing them to (teachers), because they are health care professionals or because they can't afford to stay home without losing their home or the abilitity to feed their children and pay essential bills.

If you genuinely can't afford to stay home, hopefully by other people doing so, it will reduce your own risk also as you travel and work for essential business.

This is not difficult to understand.
