Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

Showers were the only thing that helped with my temperature a few days ago so I have had plenty but still stink! TMI!!

May get dressed today as need to wash some stuff....

Piggywaspushed · 19/03/2020 10:33

mrsPMT exactly how I feel.

About the flu, not the PMT. But also that.

Piggywaspushed · 19/03/2020 10:35

My friend's dad owns a bakery. She is going to deliver some bread tomorrow. Hurrah.

This won't last though as he will tell her off because we at 1. 3 miles outside their delivery area.

Just had a Tesco delivery, ordered around £50 of stuff and got less than £25. Some stuff not available including dog food so DD is looking for that and going to leave it on the doorstep. We do have kibble but one won’t eat it. I’m guessing after a few days of nothing else she’ll give in!

Cereal I ordered own brand frosted flakes and had a perfectly reasonable substitution of Kellogg’s but they’re not gluten free and I’m coeliac so that had to go back. Also I ordered 68 dishwasher tablets for £9 and got 25 for £9 instead - would rather wash by hand than pay that much so sent them back too. Tinned fruit all unavailable- luckily I saw in advance and ordered fresh oranges which will ward off the scurvy for a bit. I just wanted something low effort while I’m feeling grotty.
The milk has been substituted for fancy branded milk which is fine and two gluten free cake substitutions but I’m not going to be fussy. They had a gluten free loaf in stock!

I think we have enough probably for two weeks now so I’m going to hunker down for a bit and not overwhelm the deliveries. I’ve historically had a Tesco delivery once a week but probably have enough in the cupboard to do less often if we eat inventively.

I’ve barely been able to eat anything for 9 days anyway so meh. I get nutritional shakes, one a day, on prescription as I was very underweight and malnourished at my coeliac diagnosis. They’ve been a godsend whilst I’ve been unwell with this. It’s nice to know I have at least some nourishment!

musicposy · 19/03/2020 11:02

Really hoping in a way this is CV because if its normal flu and I am likely to end up getting CV also then I will be totally pissed off!

Me too, mrsPMT. I was thinking if this isn’t CV I really can’t catch it on the back of this. This is quite enough feeling like crap for a bit!

JustUrggghhhh · 19/03/2020 11:21

I'm certainly hoping it was CV too as I do not want to go through this again. I am hoping we can request immunity testing once they get a handle on this so we know and can brace ourselves if not! The not knowing is also having a massive impact on my mental health.

All I can hear from my room is the useless menfolk carping and bickering about the bin that won't close...

Piggywaspushed · 19/03/2020 11:41

Yes, just, I agree. We won't be first in line, though. Even though I am a teacher and live with a vulnerable adult. I won't be going into that childcare frontline under those circumstances, obviously.

butIwontdothat · 19/03/2020 11:44

@musicposy seconded.

butIwontdothat · 19/03/2020 11:48

@Piggywaspushed teacher here too, and with 2 of the high risk health conditions. I'd like to be back at work but only if I can be sure I've had it already.

musicposy · 19/03/2020 12:03

Just, same re my mental health. I can’t bear the thought of going through the next few months scared to get ill again because I don’t know if this was it. Mind you I’d rather not know than end up in hospital and find out! What we need is antibody testing later, as said. But really they should be trying to do everyone now or we have no idea of the scale of it.

Your posts on the headaches have helped because that has been one of the worst things, every morning, goes away a bit if I’m lucky, back in the evening. Since last Tuesday. Just go away now!

Sending good wishes to everyone struggling on this thread and thank you Just for making it.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 19/03/2020 12:38

I'm I'm a Hello Kitty onesie...zero fucks given! 😂

Theodoreb · 19/03/2020 12:54

Asda have imposed a3 item limit near me I think hopefully this may give them chance to re stock maybe.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 19/03/2020 13:08

I’ve broke out my own version of the Dressing Gown of Doom (it’s actually a plushie cream colour with foxes on) and am now lay on the couch with the cat while nursing a thumping headache. I got up this morning and put a load of washing on the airer and it’s wiped me out.
Every time I try and move I start coughing. No paracetamol and no chance of getting any. I’m going to try and change the bedding later and have a bath, no heating on and all the windows are open.
Sorry, I’m feeling really sorry for myself.
Love to everyone else suffering.

butIwontdothat · 19/03/2020 13:16

@GenuineKlatchianPottery Hugs to you genuine. I'm currently rocking a tatty pjs, oversized cardie and a hot water bottle. Feeling chilled to my bone even though I'm under the duvet.
I can't get past the overwhelming tiredness but thankfully no headache so far today.

SilverySurfer · 19/03/2020 13:24

I'm now addicted to this: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274 and feel compelled to check three times a day to see if numbers of known cases have increased in my borough Grin

Jux · 19/03/2020 13:53

Hi all, can I join you?

I'm considered vulnerable - ms, heart condition - but I did go to the supermarket on Monday or Tuesday (can't remember which!) but not been out since. We had a visitor yesterday for about an hour too.

I am here with dd - home from Uni as she's vulnerable too, and the Uni's closing soon too - and dh. My bro lives here too. The 3 of us (excl dd) are in our 60s and none of us are healthy.

DH is considering isolation too. All his work's been cancelled for the next 3 months at least so he'll be happy sitting at home fiddling with his guitars. My bro will do whatever he wants to do regardless.

DD has Uni work, sewing, art, all sorts to occupy her.

I HAVE WOOL!!!!!!!! So I'll be OK too, and lots and lots and lots of books.

And I have MN! You lot! We'll be fine Wink

TheoriginalLEM · 19/03/2020 14:29

Jux I think I remember you from the Chernobyl threads. How are you?

I am currently at the stage, after only a couple days feeling rough, where im thinking about doing things as im feeling a tad better but I've got no energy and can't concentrate on anything more taxing than solitaire.

Any kindle suggestions? I have some work to do and an assignment to right but my brain is cabbage just now

Resisterance · 19/03/2020 14:37

Following as self isolated too. Trying to work but have painful symptoms and juggling mental hyperactive child too. Sheesh!

TheoriginalLEM · 19/03/2020 14:39

Does anyone else feel better around midday then feel worse as the day goes on?

TheoriginalLEM · 19/03/2020 14:43

Also what about if we get sick or need to self isolate again in the next few months? My employer is paying for self isolation but with the dire warning of ' do not take the piss' I am not sure if i have cv or not so i could end up having to do this again.

musicposy · 19/03/2020 14:52

Yes, I definitely feel worse in the evening. So far it’s hit me from late afternoon but today I’ve felt awful all day.

I’m trying not to panic that it’s been 9 days and today has been the worst - that I should have turned the corner by now. But I’m breathing ok so don’t think there’s anything to be gained by speaking to 111.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 19/03/2020 15:39

Genuine I have paracetomal. I can send you a pack of 15 if you like?

Sorry guys- feeling ropey. Promise I will catch up later. I'm burning lavender and chamomile oil and I'm going to try to nap.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 19/03/2020 16:02

@ShrimpyTheGnome that’s really kind of you! I’ve been rubbing my forehead with cool rose water and that’s helping. Please keep hold of yours, my son in law has offered to try and get me some. I’m sipping hot orange barley water at the moment.
I fell asleep earlier and woke up feeling like someone was sitting on my chest...they were, the cat had crawled onto my chest and gone to sleep Smile
