Good re St Patrick’s Day

SirChing · 13/03/2020 09:57

It seems to me that the best way to make sure people comply with a lock down situation is to make them angry and demand that the government do it. It's not a shocker in that context, that Jeremy Hunt would go and say what he did, supported by the PM.

woodencoffeetable · 13/03/2020 09:57

DD2's office has run out of handwash. The boss has suggested they refill the bottles with shampoo. I am not confident that shampoo has much efficacy against coronavirus.

shampoo is not very different from normal hand soap.
bubble bath (available in BIG bottles) should be fine as well.

DonkeyKong2019 · 13/03/2020 09:58

So literally no one is paying any notice to do the guidelines. No chance of that working. Surely the government know people always think it doesn't apply to them?

SirChing · 13/03/2020 10:01

What I don't understand at all, though, is the logic of other countries having such severe lockdowns. This virus is out there. It WON'T be eradicated. So people can stay indoors to avoid catching it, but it will still be there when they come out, because you can't prevent 100% of people getting it.

So what happens then? They come out of lockdown and immediately get it. What was the point in the first place? The virus may have mutated in that time and become even deadlier. Surely it's better for it to infect people now, in a manageable way, so that it then isn't an issue?

SirChing · 13/03/2020 10:04

Oh, and I can't stand BoJo or the Tories, but I do actually think their is logic behind their approach. Even telling people to stay home for 7 days with a cough. They know loads of people won't do it, but they also know some will. Again, it slows the transmission down somewhat.

halcyondays · 13/03/2020 10:04

It does still infect people in lockdown areas, but it slows the numbers down, so that hospitals are better able to cope.

HardWorkShy · 13/03/2020 10:06

Been on hold to 111 for over an hour now.

MabelMoo23 · 13/03/2020 10:07

Disney world Orlando, Disneyland Paris, Disneyland California and Universal studios all closing from Sunday for 2 weeks

Must be the CDC’s worst nightmare, literally hundreds of thousands of people all together and then dispersing off to all corners on the world

Libertylee · 13/03/2020 10:09

First time I’ve seen critically ill stats for UK- 20 critical, which is awful to see

diddl · 13/03/2020 10:09

Surely it won't slow transmission down though if some people don't self isolate because they aren't bad enough to be tested?

John Ashton being interviewed on Victoria Derbyshire right now. Disagreeing with Govt.

People have specifically been asked not to call 111 unless they are very ill for this very reason. the system is overwhelmed and cannot cope.

Alwaysreadyforbed · 13/03/2020 10:12

It’s not just Boris making these decisions, it’s all the parties.

RedToothBrush · 13/03/2020 10:15

After her death the family said she'd had flu for about a week and wondered about Coronavirus. Other HCPs were sent to test her, and she resulted positive.

Was there anything written that suggested the Coronavirus could have triggered the seizure?

High fevers can trigger seizures.

I'm calling because I'm very ill and was told by Public Health to phone in.

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/03/2020 10:16

Alwaysreadyforbed No.

an all party meeting is scheduled for next week.

I have completely missed this advice.

Yesterday my doctors texted me the following message:

Coronavirus update:If you have returned to the UK from abroad in the last 14 days and are experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough, fever or shortness of breath, please stay at home and call NHS111 even if your symptoms are mild.

excitedmumtobe87 · 13/03/2020 10:17

@SirChing if it mutates even those who have had it will catch it again.

Lweji · 13/03/2020 10:18

At this point the severe lock downs are to avoid reaching the situation in Italy, where the health system isn't coping. There aren't enough ventilators.

If the health services aren't overstretched, then the mortality rate can be kept low.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 13/03/2020 10:19

Rory the Tory making a lot of sense on Sky News ATM

HasaDigaEebowai · 13/03/2020 10:19

It was in the press conference redtoothbrush so I suspect the text came out before that.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 13/03/2020 10:19

Yolo what's he saying please?
