Saturday night we are going to a concert in Newcastle (well we were meant to be )
We've paid for train (over £100 each ) and hotel (£150 split) and £80 ticket each.
Tonight she text saying she isn't coming as she is scared incase she catches coronavirus.
So I have nobody to go with and we only reserved hotel so I will have to pay £150 for that.
Aibu to be Annoyed?
I told her to get a grip, and was she planning on not going out till after this has gone.

Usually opinions are based on some sort of knowledge and understanding of a situation. Otherwise they're called 'prejudices' or even stupidity.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 14/03/2020 15:39

There are so many of these overly-gungho posts that it's starting to feel like a deliberate attempt at misinformation.

I'm genuinely trying to work out why. Who benefits from fake mass-information about this? Who benefits by underplaying the risks?

SwedishEdith · 14/03/2020 16:02

No, they're out there in the real world as well. "Well be fine...the war...blitz spirit" from people who have absolutely no experience of war or real trauma. I guess a lot of it comes from anxiety leading to denial to cope with it.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/03/2020 16:14

Who benefits by underplaying the risks?

At first I thought it was those whose savings were tanking as the stock markets tank but then it became clear that the virus is just terribly inconvenient for people who do not consider themselves to be personally at risk.

She is being sensible. Social distancing is key. The only reason the government aren’t putting in more strong measures isn’t that the risk is still low. It’s because they think we won’t be able sustain it, are concerned about childcare issues and impact on economy. We can all however practice social distancing to slow the spread as soon as we want. She should pay costs but she is being sensible not unreasonable.

We have no idea how many cases there truly are because we are not testing every one with symptoms and lots of people don’t have symptoms but are carrying it and passing it in. You might might be in the later category. So might your friend. Less contact = less spread.
Sorry your night has been ruined but we are all going to have to make sacrifices in the coming months.

...I think all the footballers have sore feet too

haddyh · 14/03/2020 18:44

@ThisSistineWontScreamAtItself il be honest,I didn't want to read up on all the facts because it scares me and anything like this (not that I've ever dealt with anything like this ) makes me panic.
I chose to close my eyes and carry on like normal because the alternative of panicking wasn't an option.
It's a scary time.
Obviously at first I thought ott etc
Maybe it's not ..you have so many different opinions.
There's a doctor on YouTube from America with his opinion and statistics of flu deaths etc and it's just confusing.

haddyh · 14/03/2020 18:44

P.s this is my original post but I've name changed as I'm about to post on another board and don't want Anybody to realise it's me.

Frownette · 14/03/2020 18:52

I don't think you're supposed to announce that, defeats the purpose

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 18:56

There are people on YouTube who will tell you the world is flat......
