Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Where are you getting the info the asthma is a comorbitity? I haven't actually seen that listed anywhere. (Genuine question.)

I've heard that too, I think it was from a doctor being asked questions on coronavirus on TV. I'd say from a non-medical standpoint that anything that affects your lungs and breathing has got to be a risk factor.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 11/03/2020 19:02

@myrtleWilson I never said that but the justification for keeping schools open a few days ago may not hold true today.
I never blindy believe things I am told, I question and question and question again. Maybe I should have more faith in those in charge.

@ChipotleBlessing The point is though , under normal circumstances people would be evaluated to assess whether ventilation would provide them the best chance. That chance is denied without assessment. Good that some may survive with just oxygen (one of the sources did say no treatment at all.)
To me the issue is that all the people in the queue really needed ventilation/ ITU support and it has to be given to those with the best chance and age/comorbidities rules many out before an assessment is made.

peachgreen · 11/03/2020 19:02

@SansaSnark Another good point.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 19:03

I know it’s long and not sound bite friendly but if the interested public watch the video above then they wouldn’t just have to just trust us.

What is being discussed is in plain English and easy to understand but not the same as how we consume media. Not sure where the problem lies; media sales, people’s appetite for entertainment or attention span but it is there not hidden.

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 19:04

Meeting with opposition to discuss emergency bill for next week.

MidsummerMeadow · 11/03/2020 19:04

Is it just me or was Boris not looking too well earlier during the budget speech?

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 19:04

(Hancock statement is on Sky news)

Cobra again tomorrow.

Ejmorgan · 11/03/2020 19:04

I have been reading all day andi keep coming back to JFK's speech , ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country . If all of us that are well and able to help can and do we could not only survive this but thrive . If we shop for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and leave on doorsteps we can help self quarantine people . If we help out family and friends with childcare if schools close then we can share the hardships and help with the idea or herd immunity and keep the country running .

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2020 19:05

I should have read back more pages before typing “terrifying” .
Sorry, instant reaction. Have been at the dentist this afternoon, which was worrying me anyway as cases close by. Then came home and started reading the thread backwards.

middleager · 11/03/2020 19:05

The statement "we're going to... have another meeting tomorrow"

HeronLanyon · 11/03/2020 19:05

Keep washing hands then.

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 19:05

All in this together... that's about it really.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 11/03/2020 19:05

Comorbidities include chronic respiratory conditions. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition along with COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and cystic fibrosis.

Jumpingintodarkness · 11/03/2020 19:06

Marsha these threads move so quickly what's being hidden or not hidden

SistemaAddict · 11/03/2020 19:06

Oh ffs

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 19:06

More about his MP buddy being ill than anything bloody else really!

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2020 19:06

Agree Ejmorgan
We all need to think and act as a community, and assess the risk to our community rather than individual risk.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:06

Emergency bill next week, apparently. Another COBRA meeting tomorrow too.

HRH2020 · 11/03/2020 19:06

Is that it? Wash your hands and we'll have another meeting tomorrow? (Am not near tv)

Moomin8 · 11/03/2020 19:06

Deaths may be higher in Italy because a lot of Italians are heavy smokers.

I don't think I've met an Italian who doesn't smoke...

MabelMoo23 · 11/03/2020 19:07

Was that it?????

Basically “hope my mate is ok, wash your hands and we are doing another COBRA”

Kuponut · 11/03/2020 19:07

The statement "we're going to... have another meeting tomorrow"

It's like that Red Dwarf skit of "we're going to hit it up with a leaflet campaign." (the emotion sucking monster thingee the name of which I forget at the moment)

GalOopNorth · 11/03/2020 19:07

Absolutely nothing. Fucking he’ll.

SansaSnark · 11/03/2020 19:07

Nothing new today really, mostly about parliament and whether it will continue to sit.
