Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

I would be so happy if they said something useful at 7. As I said earlier I think it will be the usual- we may soon start to consider implementing x or y. Followed by wash your hands

ShanghaiDiva · 11/03/2020 17:13

@ChipotleBlessing
The phase in China is now to relax restrictions whilst simultaneously avoiding a second spike.
No schools open yet, but some restaurants and outdoor areas eg flower market.
Btw this does not include Hubei.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/03/2020 17:13

Not sure about those mortality figures upthread, think these figures need checking perhaps.

Jumpingintodarkness · 11/03/2020 17:13

Shangai, my mind is well and truly boggled.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/03/2020 17:13

I wonder if they will say those who are elderly and with underlying health conditions should self isolate.

If that's the plan I'll have to take my kids out of school. There's no point in me isolating with my three little vectors off to school each day.

anonacfr · 11/03/2020 17:14

Problem with this whole situation is that it is a complete 'calm before the storm' scenario.
At it stands the number of cases is tiny. Nothing has changed and life goes on as normal.
Most people don't even talk about it- someone on a previous thread mentioned feeling like Cassandra and it is such an accurate description!

Yesterday was the 1st time DH and I sat down and discussed possible isolation etc He is lucky that he can work flexible hours and cycle to work (in London) so avoid public transport. He's given up going to the gym and we have prepped the spare room in case.
We have extra food etc etc... And now we wait.
Even after all that has happened in Italy it feels very surreal.

Helenj1977 · 11/03/2020 17:14

Italy over 2000 more cases...

Freezingold · 11/03/2020 17:15

It seems like the WHO is also wanting governments to be clear and transparent on their strategies.

Not just me then! Absolutely nothing to be gained by keeping quiet about decision in the UK to delay social distancing. They should share it with us and with the WHO.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 17:15

Thanks Shanghai
0.07% compares well to the below 80%

ShanghaiDiva · 11/03/2020 17:16

@FourTeaFallOut
Yes, that could happen and then it will all move backwards again.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 17:16

@Freezingold couldn’t agree more. I’d love to understand their rationale and scientific evidence behind their approach given it goes the international expertise of WHO

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 17:17

Typo! Goes against!!

Babyroobs · 11/03/2020 17:18

I take the bus half the week but am now going to wait in quiet area at work until dh can pick me up. I have slightly panicked my 20 year old Ds by telling him I have written a list of bank account numbers and pin numbers and important relatives contact numbers in the event of me and DH becoming ill and hospitalised simultaneously. I have hidden this list and only he knows where it is but as the eldest of four would need to take charge. We have no relatives around except my 82 year old dad who is also at risk. Ds thinks I am being dramatic but I think it's sensible precautions.

AtomicRabbit · 11/03/2020 17:19

Family of very experienced medics surround me @Oakmaiden.

Just get aggressive why don’t you?

I don’t cling to the need to be right.

There are four coronaviruses in the human population already. No one has immunity from them for long. That’s why they persist in the community and continue to be present - probably forever.

Perhaps this coronavirus is different and once caught you will get life-long immunity but that’s not how the others have shown to work. We can only presume at the moment.

I don’t buy the herd immunity argument and I think the uk government is playing with fire.

Sadly I wish I was wrong. I don’t want to be right.

todayisnottuesday · 11/03/2020 17:20

Not sure about those mortality figures upthread, think these figures need checking perhaps.

The vast majority quoted on here are wrong IMHO. Reliable projections of Mortality and morbidity rates are way more complex than a working out a percentage from amount info ted/ number died.

myrtleWilson · 11/03/2020 17:20

As far as I know the 7pm statement is to the House so not to the nation (unless you're watching parliament tv)

Skyejuly · 11/03/2020 17:20

I bet the announcement will just say wash hands Hmm

boon · 11/03/2020 17:22

Why cant i click on any of the hand gel links. Im desperate as run out. I ordered from a link on here this morning and then it was pointed out that its not 70% alcohol :-(

Tempuserregularposter · 11/03/2020 17:23

Anyone know for sure about 7pm, I will stay at work if it's a public broadcast but if it's just to the commons I will be on my drive home.

Freezingold · 11/03/2020 17:24

@Bumblesbumbles a fellow curious person! Seriously I do need to know. I’ve been pushing the social distancing that can be done such as working from home if you can, and would openly hear evidence that this isn’t effective. I do understand about peaks and waves of the virus, and do understand that it is going to be circulating for some time.

LittleRen · 11/03/2020 17:25

People saying we aren’t doing enough tests... whilst I agree, we are doing far far better than the USA.... I imagine it really is rife over there!

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 17:25

Italy reports 2,313 new COVID19 cases and 196 new deaths. Total now 12,462 coronavirus infections, 827 dead.

New daily "records" for both new infections and deaths.

Nearlyalmost50 · 11/03/2020 17:25

AtomicRabbit I don't get the herd immunity thing either with coronavirus, I was with a medic friend yesterday who explained why you can't get immunity from this type of virus, so we can be reinfected, a bit like with sickness bugs- you don't get them once and then never again. So, like with sickness bugs, you have to stop transmission not try to let everyone get it and then some die!

Freezingold · 11/03/2020 17:27

@AtomicRabbit is the government banking on herd immunity though? I haven’t seen that they are. I speculate they are thinking social compliance is time limited and therefore can’t do it yet. But I have no idea, I’d like parliament to tell me the reasoning behind the strategy as every moment seems to count.

todayisnottuesday · 11/03/2020 17:27

From aljazeera:

The European Commission will set up an EU fund worth 25 billion euros ($28bn) to tackle the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the head of the EU executive branch said.

Sorry to conflate two separate issues but...that may well have been handy, eh -oh well...at least we have our country back Hmm
