Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

@NaturalBornWoman because they keep mentioning herd immunity. That means 80% minimum.

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 16:34

Talking of hairdressing, I have only boys and they have been known to sport the odd skin head in the past 🙈 I don't mind having to do that if their hair starts annoying them.

Mine on the other hand, will have to start sporting grey roots as there is no chance I'm sitting in a salon chair right now!

"While China quarantined 56 million people and the whole of Italy is on lock down to counter the spread of coronavirus, the U.K. is taking a radically different approach. Instead of keeping people inside their homes, Boris Johnson’s government is trying to get inside their heads."

This is an interesting article in Bloomberg explaining the UK gov's approach -

It is required for 80% to get it for the outbreak to run its course and die away naturally, in the absence of a vaccine or total population isolation.

NeckPainChairSearch · 11/03/2020 16:37

I can’t help but feel there will be a large number of those from impoverished or abusive backgrounds who will be dreading the thought of being at home indefinitely

Yes, I've been thinking about this.

Exochord · 11/03/2020 16:38

Where have they said that it’s officially a pandemic?

Quartz2208 · 11/03/2020 16:38

I think what bothers me most is not being kept informed of why decisions are being made.

Whereas I agree this is what is hard for us all they dont need to at all. That isnt how government works we are not entitled to know why they make each decision that they do.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 16:38

"Johnson’s team insisted there was no need to test him, because they hadn’t been in close contact and he regularly washes his hands."

And of course, he's British! Grin

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 16:38

Does anyone know what it being a pandemic triggers?

DressingGownofDoom · 11/03/2020 16:38

Ooh. Pandemic. Not sure that changes anything though does it?

NerrSnerr · 11/03/2020 16:39

@Hoolahoophop we had that today too. Also advising to send children in with alcohol gel. I would if I could get hold of some!!

RevolutionofourTime · 11/03/2020 16:39

I’m in Hong Kong. We’re now in week six of school closures and distance learning and it’s hard work. And we are in near optimal conditions - DCs have access to computer, printer, internet, parents willing to help. School is pretty good at sending instructions, videos and school work everyday. They even have remote music lessons.

But I’m very aware that not every child is as lucky. .

Closing down schools in the UK also means some children who have no access to any of these (maybe they don’t have WiFi, no computer or need to share with sibling, no printer or no money for ink and paper, parents who need to be out working or who don’t speak English or have health issues etc), plus are not being fed school dinners, still being required to keep up with school work. It’s a very difficult decision to make as it will disproportionately impact the poorest in society.

NaturalBornWoman · 11/03/2020 16:39

NaturalBornWoman because they keep mentioning herd immunity. That means 80% minimum

Well on this thread they keep mentioning it yes. I can't see it being true that our government and its advisors are aiming for the worst case scenario, it makes no sense.

Catsrus · 11/03/2020 16:40

The video I linked to earlier mentions herd immunity. The reason it will drop off / maybe die out is that it will have no means of transport to new victims. Anyone who's had it can't be a spreader. We don't know yet how long any immunity lasts.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 16:40

@ofwarren the Guardian link above is helpful.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 16:41

Chipotle because they keep mentioning herd immunity. That means 80% minimum. - who is they in this please?

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 16:41

@kinder, great article, thank you! I'm a big believer in the nudge unit.

todayisnottuesday · 11/03/2020 16:42

Agreed. I'm only skimming this thread for facts now.

Also agreed, but I'm also double checking the facts.

This thread started off as very helpful and informative, but an influx of drama llamas who seem to be wallowing in it and ganging up on anyone who dares to offer a different opinion or object to any of the scaremongering posts all has completely changed the tone of it.

That said, I am most grateful to the more considered and helpful posters on here - it is a useful resource (if you can wade through all the crap without getting the rage and ending up embroiled in a pointless circular debate with a bigot that is Wink ). Anyway, thank you to all those posters, you're doing a great job.

NcFortuna · 11/03/2020 16:42

@NaturalBornWoman at least my evilness is only words and not ideological Tory government policy.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 16:42

Ie has someone stated they are aiming for this?
