Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Believe it or not, there isn't a perfect solution to this. Although I'm no fan of this government nor of Johnson, one of his skills is not to do the work himself but to find really knowledgeable people to do it for him. That's what he was like as mayor and that means he will readily take advice. He wants to be popular. That's his shtick. People advising the government really do this stuff for a living. They really have medical training and experience. This is best estimate stuff for experts.

Italy considers even more draconian 'Wuhan-style' coronavirus quarantine
More than 10,000 people have been infected and 631 have died in Europe's worst hit country

The northern region of Lombardy, the worst hit part, wants to implement what one Italian newspaper called "the Wuhan model" – the strictest possible control measures for at least two weeks.

Regional leaders are warning that failure to do so risks the collapse of the hospital system.

Under the proposed new regime, public transport would be drastically curtailed, some government offices would be closed and only pharmacies and shops selling food would be allowed to remain open.

How is social distancing going to work in salons My town is packed with them. I was talking about this to the manager of the salon where i went for lip and chin wax yesterday. She said if people start cancelling due to this she"ll go bust.

All very well telling ppl to go to work as normal but then if you also want social distancing so people cancel appointments like these, there is very little point in hairdressers and beauty therapists going to work if there are no customers!!

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2020 16:03

Re salons I wouldn’t get a hair cut soon, well not at the peak of it all anyway,

LemonSucker · 11/03/2020 16:06

I have stopped going to the hairdresser. I will just have to attempt to cut it myself for a while.

So lets play pretend... School is out for today. Mrs Headteacher is at home, with her family.

Mr Hancock announces at 7pm that the schools will close. Will Mrs Headteacher be notified when the rest of the UK are via his statement or will she be told in advance by the LA?

cologne4711 · 11/03/2020 16:07

Seems thermometers are also hard to come by. All are sold out at Argos, has anyone seen any

Amazon has some. Superdrug and Boots were out of them in my town this morning.

Re PP my body temp sits around the 35,36 mark, 37 for me is a temperature! Yes I am due a body upgrade I'm always bloody freezing and known for wearing hat with dressing gown! Grin

CalmYoBadSelf · 11/03/2020 16:09

The government are being advised by scientists and experts who, presumably, know more than us ordinary people panicking on the internet. This level of blaming them for following advice is not helpful.

No government is going to aim to destroy it's populace. Some of you need to calm down

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 16:09

@cjt110

I would guess she will find out at the same time as the rest of us. If they tell the LA and the LA disseminate it to schools first then the potential for leaks is huge.

LemonSucker · 11/03/2020 16:09

same here, my normal body temp is 36, always has been

Quartz2208 · 11/03/2020 16:10

@Ontopofthesunset yes Boris wont make decisions himself he never has. This isnt his plan at all, he looks out of his depth because he doesnt have a clue. But he has never been a Donald Trump who pretends he does know and instead goes along with his advisors.

People like Chris Whitty are who presumably are driving the decisions based on their experience and what they know. We are not China locking us down would not be so easy

AvocadoOwl · 11/03/2020 16:12

Mrs Headteacher would find out at the same time as the rest of us. Otherwise it would leak and the govt wouldn't have control of whatever message they want to put out along with any measures being put in place.

IMO, of course.

AvocadoOwl · 11/03/2020 16:13

Presumably LAs have been busy putting contingency plans in place which would kick in once an announcement is made.

NeckPainChairSearch · 11/03/2020 16:13

Wash your hands and be British

Yes. We've already resigned ourselves that Boris Fucking Johnson's plan for everything is to simply British your way out of it.

Brace yourself for any number of meaningless Dad's Army-style soundbites.

AutumnRose1 · 11/03/2020 16:13

Thanks for the link. I think that’s really irresponsible of her.

Sunshinesky1981 · 11/03/2020 16:14

I managed to get a thermometer at a local Lloyds Pharmacy

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2020 16:16

I think if that were going to happen we'd have leaks all over the place.

I suspect we will be told that we are about to move into the next phase and there will start to be closures. They won't closes schools nationally at the same time I suspect. My suspicion is school closures will be staggered regionally based on where is worst affected.

Poppydaisies · 11/03/2020 16:17

How is social distancing going to work in salons?

Probably best to avoid salons and hairdressers- far too close contact! They're closed in Italy and we're in China.

Alone07 · 11/03/2020 16:19

We had a letter today saying if the school was to part close then they would prioritise year 6 and sats.
If it was to fully close they have sent passwords and links to online school work which were all ready attached to the letter.

HeIenaDove · 11/03/2020 16:20

So how long should men avoid the barbers? Are we going to see men sporting the 1970s long hair look in a few months time?

oneteen · 11/03/2020 16:20

Looked at the testing stats on worldometer.. UK were doing OK.. Not anywhere nr the Italian levels but.. Better than I thought..

Grufallosfriends · 11/03/2020 16:22

So how long should men avoid the barbers? Are we going to see men sporting the 1970s long hair look in a few months time?

Ha ha, yes - Probably!

Sunshinesky1981 · 11/03/2020 16:23

@Alone07 Sorry, what did they mean about prioritising year 6 and SATS ..Does this mean they would keep year 6's in School if possible?
