Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

Cjt yes i know killing us with their love.

How will they feel if that actually happens and its clear it's come home frim school.

All very well saying survival is high for parents age range but anything can happen.
How much lung damage is caused too.
We might be left with a lot less manual labourers for example.
Thing is too they are describing it as wfh but in reality business need plans for if their older bosses dont make it so someone can take over the work.

Makes you wonder how much globe trotting causes older people to die of flu too

Squigglypig2 · 11/03/2020 15:06

Does anyone know what a London lockdown would mean in practice? I don't mind shutting down public transport (although it would be a massive pain as we don't have a car), museums etc but I have a 2 year old and the thought of not being able to take him to the park for example or being strictly confined to house is awful.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/03/2020 15:06

Coronavirus doctor reveals his patients in intensive care are as young as 40 that's not really because they are prioritising those patients most likely to be saved by the intervention made possible in ctu. A more interesting question would be, who is the oldest?

AvocadoOwl · 11/03/2020 15:07

*@cjt110**. If you do really have inside knowledge of a London lockdown then it is truly irresponsible of you to share it on here. Some of the spread in Italy may have been caused by people hearing about the imminent lockdown and fleeing to other areas.

If you truly know this and people believe you and act on this information then you will in all possibility have blood on your hands. Disgraceful behaviour.*

Sit yourself down @aprilhope. @cjt110 was only quoting Charlotte Edwardes (journalist) who posted in on twitter. Link to the twitter post here: mobile.twitter.com/i/web/status/1237743703424479238

FourTeaFallOut · 11/03/2020 15:07

ICU!

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 15:08

@FourTeaFallOut Dr Campbell said the median age in Italian hospitals is 65. So there is an equal spread of people above and below that age.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 15:08

Given the Government's apathy on this and prioritisation of the economy I can’t imagine a London lockdown is likely!

DryHeave · 11/03/2020 15:08

I have advised my late-60s parents to stop their social activities now. If and when we become overwhelmed, they are most at risk and also most likely to be de-prioritised for treatment.

cologne4711 · 11/03/2020 15:08

I think you should be able to go out. As long as you don't go around hugging everyone else, the virus isn't going to eg jump from one side of a park to the other.

For me it would be more about cancelling events and closing offices where people can WFH or having a skeleton staff.

Hellodotdotdot · 11/03/2020 15:09

If the government are lying about the risks then why were they all sat so closely together during the Budget talk today?

In the hospital or in ICU, @picklemewalnuts?

Moomin8 · 11/03/2020 15:10

I am UTTERLY SICK of being LIED to by this government and PHE.

Well personally I can't think of a government, past or present who didn't lie continually.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 15:11

@Jerseygaly My Mum is 55. She has COPD. This came after she had several chest infections then developed pneumonia. She is on antibiotics reguarly for recurrent chest infections. She is otherwise healthy. No way will I be sending my son to hers to put her at risk.

@AvocadoOwl Cheers. Clearly they DRTFT!

AtomicRabbit · 11/03/2020 15:12

OK so it's now 456 in in the UK - somewhat short of the 500+ cases. However I am completely convinced that it is in the 500 plus - of course it is. With the NHS policy of refusing to test anyone unless they've been to Italy etc, then of course they are missing the community spread cases.

Completely irresponsible but this is the dark art of PR at its very worst. The UK trying to pretend it's not happening. Bastards. People will die due to their incompetence.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-8100411/Number-UK-coronavirus-cases-soars-456.html

My advice to anyone who has symptoms and wants to be tested for coronavirus:

LIE. SAY YOU HAVE BEEN TO ITALY IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. JUST LIE. GET THE TEST AND SAVE LIVES.

We need to know the full picture.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 15:13

What would really help would be more definition of terms.

So
Isolation
Self isolation
Quarantine
Lockdown
Social distancing

Etc.

Lockdown could mean no one can leave or enter, big events are cancelled, but day to day life carries on. Or it could mean no one leaves the house unless told they can. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They need to clarify levels of restriction.

Voluntary social distancing would be really useful, and really achievable. It could have a great impact, but they aren't suggesting it.

Helenj1977 · 11/03/2020 15:13

It's embarrassing being British.

Hungary have 13 cases and are closing things.

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 15:14

LIE. SAY YOU HAVE BEEN TO ITALY IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. JUST LIE. GET THE TEST AND SAVE LIVES this is really irresponsible.

Helenj1977 · 11/03/2020 15:14

I would lie to get a test.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 15:15

Four tea, people hospitalised with CV. So I think he means the 20% not recovering at home.

People seem to be classed as ill for a long time, judging by the 'had it, died, recovered' stats.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 15:16

I've we lie, then the boffins can't get accurate information from the numbers. They don't need to know how many cases, they need to know why there are cases.

So please don't.

3littlemonkeys82 · 11/03/2020 15:17

Please do not lie to get a test. The reality of this is that you're diverting resources from people that then actually may die because of your actions.

OneOfTheGrundys · 11/03/2020 15:18

Oh God. DH and I are in London for his transplant. My in laws and mum are looking after our kids 2 hours away. If I’m stuck here that will cause problems... 😞 so much stress 😞

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 11/03/2020 15:18

Those saying lie, so they not check?
