Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

@cjt110. If you do really have inside knowledge of a London lockdown then it is truly irresponsible of you to share it on here. Some of the spread in Italy may have been caused by people hearing about the imminent lockdown and fleeing to other areas.

If you truly know this and people believe you and act on this information then you will in all possibility have blood on your hands. Disgraceful behaviour.

chubley · 11/03/2020 14:56

📊 France, Spain and Germany are about 9 to 10 days behind Italy in #COVID19 progression; the UK and the US follow at 13 to 16 days. In Italy we waited too long, these countries should really start implementing aggressive containment measures now. t.co/xL7jUczpmY

Thankyou @Fourducksate and everyone else for your advice . Problem is I can't get through on 111. There was a 60/90 minute wait this morning and I dont think she is poorly enough for an ambulance. So I have picked up the next dose of antibiotics and will see if she improves by tomorrow. If she does feel better than we know it's a bacterial infection and not viral at least. Fingers crossed xx

FourTeaFallOut · 11/03/2020 14:57

The risks to each individual are still really low. The thing to worry about is not 'have I got it, will I get it'.

We'll have a better idea of if that's true when we get the result from the scaled up testing. I think this might be addressed in the statement tonight.

LangClegsInSpace · 11/03/2020 14:57

London now has over 100 reported cases. I know that's spread over a huge number of people but it's a very small geographical area and we are crammed in like sardines, many of us travelling to and fro across several boroughs every day, many more commuting from outside.

Yesterday's per-borough figures showed 13 cases in Kensington and Chelsea. Area 4.68 square miles, population 156K. K&C is the second smallest borough in the country and the fourth most densely populated. That's an alarming cluster!

I decided on Monday I'm not going outside London again until this calms down. I'm also doing what I can in terms of social distancing.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 11/03/2020 15:01

@MotherOfDragonite I'm with you on that, the numbers reported are far lower than they should be for a reason.. if they did test 10.000 per day it would be much much higher. It's a delay tactic to get us past the budget and stop a completely financial crash on the markets.

AtomicRabbit · 11/03/2020 15:01

I predict 500+ new cases by the end of today. We are following the exact same trajectory as every other city that hasn't bothered to use social distancing as a way to prevent the spread.

If we follow the same path, next Wednesday we will have 3000 cases and hospitals will start to overwhelmed.

By the following Wednesday we will be at 10K cases plus. And who knows how many dead.

I find the apathy of the UK government astonishing.

All I can think is that they want to reduce the social care budget and pay out less in terms of pensions....

From reddit:

“A colleague at my friend’s work was with someone on Friday (Nottingham Forest owner), who has now tested positive for COVID-19. He has rang 111 who have told him there is no need to get tested as he did not touch the other person. They’ve told him to go back to work.”

Bourdic · 11/03/2020 15:04

This is better re testing proportions

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/covid-19-testing/

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 15:04

You can tell from the incredibly high rate of positive tests, as a total percentage of the 1,200 daily tests.

Today has the highest rate of positive tests - just below 7%. Assuming these tests are targeted (which they are - they are just not targeting some of the people we think should be targeted) then this should be well above the percentage in the general population.

I think they are knowingly allowing it to spread, on purpose.

For what purpose? dons tinfoil hat

That said, even 0.7% in the general population would mean 462000 infected. Which would presumably be accompanied by an excess demand for critical care of 9000+. Which isn't happening - so presumably we are not at that point yet. (Italy "only" has a general infection rather of about 0.017%, I believe). Actually, that probably means the tests are quite well targeted.

middleager · 11/03/2020 15:04

That is the terrifying reality Atomic
I'm in despair at the apathy too.
