Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c, vit d

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 70% vol alcohol to any other additive

I think the tests taken have been dropping for a few days, 1500, 1400, 1200?

peridito · 11/03/2020 14:26

I'm sure I heard the 10,000 tests from today reported on Radio 4 this morning .

Think Jenny Harries,Dep Chief Med Officer ,said in Corona virus select committee that they would increase from 13 March .

A friends child was sent home from school Monday because of symptoms. Day 12 after travelling. He is to be tested and the NHS have confirmed this but he's still not been tested meanwhile the other family members have been instructed to carry on as normal...

Can see how the figures are going up Hmm

LatinforTelly · 11/03/2020 14:28

UK's testing criteria is bonkers - almost useless.

Read something interesting about S. Korea - apologies if it was on here - think on twitter though. They have tested 140,000 people. They use a different, more accurate test. It picks up more positives. This is why their number of cases is so high and mortality so low (0.6) - they are getting (almost) everyone.

Number12 · 11/03/2020 14:28

We know that the virus is within communities now and yet they only test those that have travelled from red zones.... The numbers mean jack shit they are not a true reflection of the reality. The delay in testing those that have travelled, not testing those in contact with someone waiting to be tested are not included in the numbers. In correct advise from the government means transmission is much higher than these official numbers.

Before we realise this virus is on our doorstep it will be too late!

defthand · 11/03/2020 14:28

Changing the capacity doesn’t mean they’ll change the criteria. At the moment they can test 2500 a day but they’re doing half that.

The cynic in me feels like they hit a certain number of confirmed cases each day and stop.

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 14:28

That ISNT exponential spread then, is it?

I think it is. Because we are increasing by a % each day, and not by a static number. So 50 extra cases a day would be linear. 20% extra cases each day is exponential - because yesterday's growth increases today's growth.

It is, however, a slightly slower growth than some other countries have seen. Whether that is because the Government are doing something wrong (testing the wrong people) or because they are doing something right (slowing the spread) I have no idea.

And just because it is slower now, that doesn't mean ti doesn't have the potential to pick up momentum.

Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 14:29

If the 10k testing per day is rolled out today with a 24 hour turn around time we would see the results tomorrow?

colouringinpro · 11/03/2020 14:30

Anyone know of any places that have any masks? pp3

Hoolahoophop · 11/03/2020 14:31

Surely no. Positives vs no. Tests is the important bit and that will go down as they test more as at the moment they are only testing the most likely and still getting lots of negatives? Clutching at straws here. DC waiting heart surgery which is like to be cancelled now that gosh cardiac ward has cancelled non emergency procedures.

defthand · 11/03/2020 14:31

They’re not doing anything at all to stop the spread, so it can’t be that.

Unless the air is magic here (and not in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland etc) then it’s the testing.

Even small countries like Denmark are seeing big spikes.

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 14:31

@Bumblesbumbles

I would expect it would take a while to collate the results. So the individual might get the results tomorrow, but they probably wouldn't be published until the following morning. At a guess.

picklemewalnuts · 11/03/2020 14:32

@Custardy! 😱

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 14:33

@defthand

Well, probably, yes. But I like to give the benefit of the doubt...

buttermilkwaffles · 11/03/2020 14:35

Statement is probably just an overview/ update, similar to the one he made last week, which is here: www.gov.uk/government/speeches/coronavirus-action-plan-health-secretarys-statement-to-parliament

Will also probably include information specific to House of Commons, now that an MP has tested positive.
mobile.twitter.com/HouseofCommons/status/1237701877388718080

An announcement (rather than a statement to the house) regarding any significant change more likely to be made by the PM I would think?

cjt110 · 11/03/2020 14:35

Charlotte Edwardes:

The big question at the moment is when we move formally from the containment phase to full-on delay phase. A source tells me the government is likely to announce new measures this Sunday 15th. This would make sense because of the carefully worded announcement yesterday by...
Dr Jenny Harries, the deputy chief medical officer, in which she said the spread would peak “within the next 10 to 14 days”. I put this to the government but they refused to comment.
Obviously among initial measures will be the request that those with even mild symptoms...plan to self-isolate as already outlined by the scientific advisers. But I have also been told there will be a “London lockdown”, although very unclear what this would mean. Interesting that Matt Hancock making statement at 7 tonight

Bourdic · 11/03/2020 14:37

Here are the number of tests per day and % increase in cases for last 7 days

  1. 35%
  2. 42%
  3. 26%
  4. 33%
  5. 17%
  6. 17%
  7. 22%
Bumblesbumbles · 11/03/2020 14:37

@colouringinpro I think most places are out of stock (like screwfix etc). Some on amazon but either very expensive or long lead times

hankyspanky · 11/03/2020 14:37

This is a pretty good graph showing testing.
