Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

So how long is it taking for infected people to recover. The first identified cases were quite a while ago now.

Have they come to any kind of conclusion about reinfection yet? It would be comforting to at least know that if you get through it, you'll be okay.

Statistics about cases and number recovered are available on Worldometers here

In order to get some perspective it is worth sorting on the final column, cases by 1m population, to see we’re a long way from the top of that list

Treedragon - 18 of our cases have recovered according to worldometers (link in first post). A few days ago it was on the gov website that 45 cases were quarantined at home, but I don’t know what that figure is now

LarkDescending · 10/03/2020 19:04

NHS 111 has been giving outdated advice to people returning from Italy:

Guardian link

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 19:05

Italian news conference given by the head of the health service and the head of Protezione Civile is optimistic at today's figures. They quoted how many people have been cured (something I see not many people bothering to mention on these threads) and also categorically absolutely stated that THERE IS NO CRITICAL SITUATION IN ANY HOSPITAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT anywhere, not in the first zona rossa and especially not further outside it.
They do not discount further measures in an ever changing situation.

Bessica1970 · 10/03/2020 19:06

Worldometers are not showing a severe / critical figure for the UK. Does this mean our gov are not sharing the data? If not, why not? 🤔

treedragon · 10/03/2020 19:06

18 recovered. That’s not many out of 370 odd

nellodee · 10/03/2020 19:07

Just realised, I've been using cases, and the 100,000 figures was meant to be deaths. Well, that's my model buggered (unless we are only expecting a very small amount of deaths, which would be lovely). Please ignore my last few posts, they make no sense.

MargotB7 · 10/03/2020 19:08

BookMeOnTheSudExpress

That's good to read in all the negatives.

Bessica1970 · 10/03/2020 19:10

I think you have to have two successive negative tests to be classed as ‘recovered’ , so many of the 370 may actually be feeling well, but be potentially infectious so still an active case.

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 19:10

18 recovered. That’s not many out of 370 odd

Goodness me - people are determined to look at everything negatively

Our numbers didn’t increase significantly until the last week so they haven’t had time to recover yet

treedragon · 10/03/2020 19:11

Ahh bearbehind that’s true.

There’s no soap or hand wash or napppies in our local supermarket today

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 19:12

This is reporting that 45% of all cases exhibit no or very mild symptoms

magicrainbowbeans · 10/03/2020 19:13

Larkas I left today my work screens were still telling people to isolate only if they had been to one of 10 towns, the changed message isn't getting across

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/03/2020 19:14

We will have a containment zone around the commuter town outside NYC, manned by the National Guard. They'll be delivering food and medicine and cleaning everything.

This feels quite dystopian now.

Are there containment zones around UK clusters? Or just in Italy in the earlier days?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 19:14

Official cured figures for Italy today 103.

DontGoThere88 · 10/03/2020 19:16

Hi I wonder if anyone can give some advice, don’t really want to start a new thread. I look after my friend’s children once a fortnight for the day while she’s at work and am getting increasingly worried about this whole situation. We do have confirmed cases in the area. My friend and her husband and other family have minimal concerns about COVID and are pretty much business as usual. I’ve come down with a cold and feeling quite rough today, I’m meant to be having the kids Thursday and have said I’m not well but they’re not bothered about me passing it on and I’m worried I’ll be causing an inconvenience if I cancel. What would you do? I don’t want to fall out with her at all over this but each week I’m getting more worried and thinking I shouldn’t be going out as much because of everything I’m reading about it.

Any advice is welcome!!

Choux · 10/03/2020 19:16

@treedragon it seems to be an illness you are either quick to die from or slow to recover from the serious forms of. Patient A in Italy was only just out of ICU after 4 weeks.

Also I imagine that with all the prep going on now in the UK retesting some at home with cold symptoms to see if they have recovered is low on the priority list.
