Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

oldqueen I have seen unsubstantiated reports that the testing figures are way behind what is actually happening on the ground so to speak.

I think 4 is what is happening but I think that we are actually in the tens locally. I know so many people and students that have got ill in the last 7 days but no testing available as not travelled. Student at the uni been confirmed but no closures at all there.

Posting again for explanation of exponential growth and how some countries have used non medical interventions to slow rate of transmission.

Hello, first time reading and joining the thread.

I'm worried. I have a child away at uni, two at home, one with a sometime infection. Dh is recovering from a heart attack and has a cold, yesterday he felt frozen. I have asthma, a cold, no temperature and an occasional headache.

We could manage food wise for quite a while but I have a big dog who likes long walks.

Anyone give me advice please?

Glittercandle · 10/03/2020 18:31

There are a few cases where I live, Herts, but it’s a huge county so the data isn’t that helpful!

FurForksSake · 10/03/2020 18:32

Bournemouth, Christchurch and poole.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 10/03/2020 18:32

Had a meltdown from Ds1 today - that Coronavirus will cause the end of the world. That was fun. Weighing up every single day whether it's reached the point where I should keep the DC home - though they don't know the exact details of my health ishoos, they have picked up enough from school that people who are ill already are more likely to die.

Silver lining of being a disabled parent though - I don't have to worry how my Dc will feed themselves etc if both DP and I are ill. They're perfectly capable :)

Glittercandle · 10/03/2020 18:33

I got a dispatch notice from the hand sanitiser supply company so fingers crossed it will arrive soon so o can top up out little bottles.

OldQueen1969 · 10/03/2020 18:34

@DonkeyKong2019

Good point on timing of reporting etc - we shall see one way or the other tomorrow I suppose. I hope shoe shop lady was contained in good time - finger crossed for you and yours.

@Eeyoresstickhouse

That wouldn't surprise me at all re under reporting / lack of testing. Am very surprised the Uni is being so laid back - they are heavily dependent on International students and it would have been common sense to implement screening IMHO - but what do I know.......

Delatron · 10/03/2020 18:34

Are France and Germany just testing people who are back from ‘affected’ areas though?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 10/03/2020 18:38

@OldQueen1969 they are literally sticking to the PHE advice to the letter. No deviating at all. They are holding major incident group meetings regularly but we dont hear what goes on in those. Just the "business as usual" lins.

alloutoffucks · 10/03/2020 18:39

@SunshineCake Do you have a garden at all? Not as good, but throwing a ball for your dog in the garden could wear them out. There is even an automatic ball thrower you can buy.
Or if your dog like my old dog, not very bright, you can stand each at either end of the garden and shout for the dog to come to you. When I broke my leg and DP is not that mobile, I wore the dog out that way.

For your DP could he ring his GP or consultant for advice? Or Heart UK?

Cheeseismylife · 10/03/2020 18:41

Up until now I have just been mildly prepping for a lockdown and thinking we'd just batten the hatches for a bit.
Now I'm getting genuinely scared. Not so much for me, but for my parents, (old fat man) a couple of friends with cancer, a couple of diabetic friends... And all the people who need treatment for something else but will struggle to get it bec2thr hospitals are full of covid patients.
I wish wish wish the govt would just lock us down tomorrow and get this thing under control before it's too late.

SistemaAddict · 10/03/2020 18:43

Hmmm, I wonder what the cobra meeting will turn up tomorrow? That's not good English but my brain is on holiday this week. Outer space, I think.

daffodilsandblossom · 10/03/2020 18:43

Video from Dr Amir Khan, a GP, on his Twitter talking about how those at high risk can reduce their risk of complication. To summarise, he says just making sure your condition is under the best control you can get it in i.e. diabetics controlling their blood glucose levels, asthmatics making sure they are on the right inhaler, etc.

MaxNormal · 10/03/2020 18:45

A friend had their scheduled surgery for later in the week cancelled today. They ate relieved as am I.

MaxNormal · 10/03/2020 18:46

*are. Fuck off autocorrect.

OldQueen1969 · 10/03/2020 18:46

@Eeyoresstickhouse

Given they have a big health and social care section that must be dealing with placements etc I find it quite concerning...... That particular bit is close to my business premises. You'd think it would be a rather hot topic......

treedragon · 10/03/2020 18:48

What puzzles me on this is we keep hearing a number of cases. Currently 370 ish. This is since when? The number is total cases. What the authorities never seem to refer to are how many currently have this virus and who has fully recovered.

Are all 370 odd in hospital? Where are they?

And more particularly, given this is headline news we don’t seem to hear from any victims that have recovered to speak of their experience and symptoms...

SunshineCake · 10/03/2020 18:48

Thank you very much @alloutoffucks. I will look in the shops tomorrow as I think I've seen a ball thrower. My dog is only three but luckily we have a decent sized garden.

DirtyDancing · 10/03/2020 18:50

Spoke to a fell parent at pick up who is surgeon at top UK hospital. They said all their surgeries were cancelled today. Exact words were: it’s going to get really bad. I have told my partner to WFH from next week. I asked about Grandparents traveling down at the weekend and they advised they had told theirs to stay away. It’s just one persons view. But one that has made me go from mild preparedness scenario to serious planning and implementing own social distancing from Monday.

unluckyagain · 10/03/2020 18:52

@treedragon I know of 4 cases; only 1 is in hospital. The others have mild/no symptoms. Quite honestly the way some people are behaving I wouldn't expect them to go public and talk about it.

OldQueen1969 · 10/03/2020 18:54

We're still waiting on a palliative care assessment / treatment appointment for my Mum that they wanted to do this week as it might make her a bit more comfortable. She's at home currently so will involve hospital transport etc. It's her birthday tomorrow too. I am literally all over the place at the moment with everything - went to get her card this afternoon and just managed not to wail at the lady in the card shop after wading through all the appropriately worded cards to find one without stuff about the future because this will be her last birthday - I was sweating slightly with the effort and somewhat glassy eyed - which in my neck of the woods suggests either addiction issues or now, I suppose, CV. Gotta laugh, I guess..... have to say my vodka intake may just be outside of sensible guidelines at present.....at some point I intend to embrace clean living. Maybe in two to three years time.......
