Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

There was an article in Corriere about Patient 1 Mattia (young very fit 38-year old) and how then strain he put his body under by exercising so much in a short time (2 half marathons in the week prior I think, playing football when he already had a high temp) cold have lowered his immunity.

From something somewhere (possibly inside health on radio 4) I head that heavy exercise of more than an hour does lower your immunity levels or reduce ability to fight off infections. Possibly more so if it's less usual for you to do so.

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 21:02

That is a 150% increase in South Wales - from 6 to 15.

nellodee · 10/03/2020 21:02

VeniVidiVici, someone said on one of these threads that children use different ICU beds to adults, and since children are not usually affected, there should be plenty of those to go round.

SassyBrassyBitch · 10/03/2020 21:03

Is there information available on the ages of those who have died?

DH seems to think every single person that has lost their lives to this is 90 years old and poorly already

Wherestuffbelongs · 10/03/2020 21:03

This place is unbelievable for scaremongering, look at the figures peeps nothing like Italy, Germany, Spain...

There are people on here worrying about ITU beds when in reality they are never going to need them!

Do your research and BTW it’s not on here

Coronavirus, a thousand respirators from China. Phone call Di Maio - Wang Yi

China is ready to send massive aid to Italy to deal with the coronavirus emergency . Beijing said it was willing to donate one hundred thousand high-tech masks to our country, twenty thousand protective suits, as well as fifty thousand swabs to carry out diagnostic tests. But not only. The Italian government is preparing to purchase a thousand lung ventilators needed for the intensive care units. These are ready-to-use machines, produced by Chinese companies and of which the Beijing executive - given the drop in infections due to a tight containment policy - no longer needs. A useful surplus, however, for our hospitals.

And

The Chinese government has also invited companies to export two million ordinary medical masks to Italy. Contract signatures are expected to arrive in the next few hours.

Good news for Italy.

Twixes · 10/03/2020 21:05

That's amazing. Well done China.

usernameishistory · 10/03/2020 21:06

@YoursTunbridgeWells
Can you justify those claims of asthmatic dc not being treated please?

Well done, China
Just what was needed

MyFirstMyLastMyEverythingBagel · 10/03/2020 21:06

@TattiePants hiya! Yes another north east lass here. Saw about the nike office, it's been shut a while hasn't it. Feels very real right now with these recent cases. I work in a very large office and the thought that it may be community spreading is a little worrying. Bugs go through our place at a speed of light when they do the rounds and with so many people in the building it's impossible to know who may have been travelling, had contact with people who have etc etc. Watching the news with trepidation at the moment.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 10/03/2020 21:06

@Newjez The thought about people trying to sue the NHS for non treatment crossed my mind as people were discussing it at school oddly!

I would imagine that any judge/jury would say that these were unprecedented times and that it would have been reasonable for any consultant to have made X decision at the time, given the circumstances.

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 21:07

Wow that is amazing news - China sending so much to Italy. Worldwide crisis, truly worldwide response there.

pussycatinboots · 10/03/2020 21:08

Red Are they doing any EU negotiations via video conferencing (clever) etc or all of them actually in person (daft)?
I suspect i know the answer...
Will be v interesting when all our (and their) negotiators are in "lockdown" Hmm

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 21:08

With something as serious as this, lets stick to the facts and not speculation and if's and but's!

Indeed - and I don’t class quotes from the local rag as ‘facts’

peachgreen · 10/03/2020 21:08

I agree @VeniVediViciTwice. I defended these threads yesterday against those claiming we were all being hysterical and scaremongering as, on the whole, I felt the balance was in favour of facts and sensible advice. Today has felt very different and it's a shame, especially for those like @ofwarren, @BigChocFrenzyand @usernameishistory who have been taking a great deal of time and care to post factual information (which I really appreciate). Wish the speculation could go elsewhere tbh.

@Bearbehind I know you got a lot of flack yesterday, from me included, but I just wanted to say that I'm grateful for the more positive information and links you've posted today. The one about 45% of those tested positive having no or extremely minor symptoms was really comforting, so thank you.

usernameishistory · 10/03/2020 21:11

@VeniVediViciTwice
Flowers I am to hear you have additional concerns to contend with. Its not easy is it Sad. Also sorry that you have need to move away from here, but all that matters is you all staying safe and managing through this the best you can.

Very best wishes to you Brew

@Newjez the three wise men plan is well documented.

JayDot500 · 10/03/2020 21:11

I just don't understand why people are entering this thread to complain about it/how anxious it is making them. If you can't discuss all avenues and eventualities on an anonymous forum, then where can you? Confused

P.s. there is an alternative positive thread for this outbreak. It'd be pretty shitty of me to go there and disrupt their peace with my scary perspective. Just saying.

Back to lurker mode

YoursTunbridgeWells · 10/03/2020 21:12

Do we think China will be prepared to sell us some ventilators too?

usernameishistory · 10/03/2020 21:12

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 21:12

Thank you peach 🍑

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 21:13

@peachgreen I quite agree. I have defended these threads too, as apart from the odd panicked or wrong post, I have used the thread to point me to the facts.

Please let’s keep it all factual?
And not be divisive, tear down any facts that are negative, push conspiracy theories or worrying anecdotal information that has not been fact checked?

usernameishistory · 10/03/2020 21:14

Its important to be sensitive at the most challenging of times and just consider the language and impact of posts and the information it contains, that doesn't really need saying though, surely. Just basic consideration for others naturally worrying.
