Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Have had a few pms about the sanitiser but just checked now and it's out of stock again. Have answered the messages anyway, hope it comes back in stock soon for people.

I think I might agree with you

Strange times indeed! 😂

@MyFirstMyLastMyEverythingBagel sounds like you are near me. Latest news report is saying that the poor woman is in a medically induced comma. The Nike office still hasn't reopened and there's now a reported case in County Durham.

RedToothBrush typical that the EU are being sensible but we are still dithering about delaying.

Spoken to a relative in Prague, schools, universities, all closed. Theatres, museums, all closed. Overnight from today. They have a lot of people who go skiing in Italy.

I'm not ruling out that our approach isn't going to work, but we are doing things so differently.

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 19:54

But CV might have been the final nail in the coffin so to speak

Indeed, it isn’t that generally the case with illnesses anyway

People often don’t die of the illness (cancer, Alzheimer’s etc) itself but from the complications associated with it

@DontGoThere88 you may be better off starting your own thread as this one is really fast moving. You need to do whatever suits you - if you're ill and don't feel like looking after someone else's children then that's just how it is. If you don't want to look after them until this health crisis is over then that's fine, it's your choice. Don't try to convince your friends, just say "unfortunately I won't be able to look after Jane and John this week /for the forseeable future". Don't get into big explanations, just state your position and stay silent.

@Bearbehind

Well I see where you're coming from, but if the original illness wasn't present then the complications wouldn't arise surely? Bit of a chicken and egg situation I feel..... is there any data relating to CV deaths where the stricken individual was otherwise generally healthy?

CharlieTangoBanana · 10/03/2020 20:00

I've spoken to a Respiritory physio at the hospital where I'm treated for an existing respiratory condition. She didn't mince her words, stay at home Charlie if you catch it you probably won't survive.
I know two people who had Sars from the same unit and one of them was in hospital for months and still has respiratory problems now, it was life changing for her and this is worse.

Sunshinegirl82 · 10/03/2020 20:01

I think it's very difficult to take anything meaningful from the figures on their own.

How many people in each age range die in each country on a daily basis under normal circumstances for example? Has that number gone up significantly as a result of CV? Or are at least a proportion of those who have died people who would have passed away anyway and just happened to have CV?

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 10/03/2020 20:03

I’m really annoyed with the current conflicting advice. I have a v weird cold - all dry cough and throat and not at all snotty, and the longer it goes on the more I want to be tested. But I haven’t been abroad so am not eligible, but I know of community spread cases near me Hmm The longer it goes on the more people I’m having contact with as my job has said until government advice changes then we need to work. It might just be a cold, but it’s a bloody odd one and it seems daft to artificially restrict the testing to those who’ve been to certain countries (some of whom now have fewer cases than we do!)

Bearbehind · 10/03/2020 20:04

Some should start their own thread, mmm , now , there's an idea !

I’m assuming that’s aimed at me 🤔 You don’t own this thread and you don’t get to police it, especially when I haven’t said anything to deserve that

I haven’t said there aren’t exceptions, only that the majority of deaths involved significant health concerns, largely in the elderly, and evidence suggests up to 45% of people diagnosed experience minimal symptoms

If you have evidence to the contrary, please share it

DakotaFanny · 10/03/2020 20:04

Blimey Charlie that’s sobering! Stay safe.

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 20:06

I think there’s a difference between people who are close to death and CV hastens it (a relative of mine had a hospital acquired affection and that’s what’s on their death certificate, but realistically they weren’t going to survive anyway). And having diabetes which is mostly under control or having had well manage high blood pressure for decades. And some (only some) of the latter are also dying of CV and would probably have lived for many more years without it.

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 20:07

Bear, they are the earliest casualties, though. Fitter people will be fighting it for longer.
