Not sure if you can leave 11 year olds alone? Spain can have some different ideas about kids.

Is Consum open as normal?

No idea. Certainly not for online deliveries.

Better to get the direct phone number for your local one and give them a call to ask.

amigababy · 16/03/2020 16:31

Hi @Nameisthegame it's our own apartment, so I've been here 3 weeks, got all our home comforts. We could stay here If necessary, but if Ryanair still operate the flight we'll take it. Just so we're back in the same country as DD ( adult) and FIL who is elderly but very healthy. Hard to decide really, better here or there? Now people have got the idea here, the food situation seems calmer.
Last week the TV was broken. Thankfully the repairman arrived and fixed it, I'd be a bit stuck without ( telly addict) and the UK radio. We switch to Spanish news when necessary. And we have a terrace to be out on. There's maybe 5 other flats occupied, but obviously we're not socialising. It feels ok so far...

BillieEilish · 16/03/2020 16:32

I know I 'can' leave her alone Grin but want help carrying things back, also good for her to get out the flat for 10 mins. Don't want to go every day.

Spain are very protective about DC's though aren't they? You shouldn't leave them alone. I'll report back. Thanks so much everyone.

First time I wished I could drive!

BillieEilish · 16/03/2020 16:37

Thanks pebbles

BillieEilish · 16/03/2020 16:39

Nameisthegame · 16/03/2020 17:24

I'm putting off the shopping for a few days yet. Although perhaps that's a bad idea as then if there are shortages I'll be stuffed? But I don't want to have to do all the shopping in Dia on foot and I can't carry it all anyway.

I see Spain is requisitioning private healthcare facilities. Sounds worrying but also like they are getting on with stuff that needs to happen.

PotsOfPebbles · 16/03/2020 17:43

As our Consum delivery was cancelled, I tried Carrefour. They aren't delivering either.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 17:47

The carrefour website says they are reserving their online channels for those who are vulnerable...old people, sick people, disabled, pregnant women. Which I think is ace actually. So I guess it's deliveries for them only.

OhMargo · 16/03/2020 18:11

Our family have place in Estepona. When the news broke back in late Feb none of us wanted to go because of the worry of not getting back. Yes that far back. We usually go mid March for two weeks as no school kids anymore now so can be flexible, leaving other times like Summer, half terms, Easter for those with kids. Glad my hand hovered on the airline website and I said Nah.

Anyway, I love Spain, and hope you will all be safe.

For those of you who don't drive, could you buy/use a shopping trolley. Holds loads. Now is not the time to be fashion conscious! I use one all the time both at home and abroad.

Worrying times, hope all stay safe.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 18:13

I was thinking about a shopping trolley but I think we gave it to MIL and now there's nowhere open to buy one Grin

BillieEilish · 16/03/2020 18:17

I'd love a shopping trolley I'd fit in with the locals and they wouldn't gossip about me!

OhMargo · 16/03/2020 18:17

Bird.

Where we are there mini markets that sell food, grog, and shopping trolleys. Amongst every other thing under the sun!

Chinese shops.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 18:19

Chinese shops here shut about a week ago, they were scared of CV.

Nothing here in the village that would sell one and haven't got a car til Saturday.

OhMargo · 16/03/2020 18:23

Bird, sorry to hear that..

I was thinking of our local shop that sells food and everything else besides.

It's still open according to messages from permanent residents there that we know. Don't know how long that will last though.

Best wishes to you all in Espana.

PotsOfPebbles · 16/03/2020 18:46

When you have a car on Saturday could you go to a big carrefour? You'd definitely get one there.

Any neighbours you could borrow one from? Pretty much every household has one.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 18:47

I'm also wondering about the kids and supermarket thing, really think I'll need to go to Día before the end of the week, don't want to leave them on their own (8 and nearly 12) in case it takes ages (one in one out type thing) but wondering if anyone has been told off doing that.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 18:49

I could, but then I might as well just stock up in carrrefour anyway. It's only this week I'm totally car less. Next week DH will have a couple of mid week days off as he's working the following weekend. It's just this week.

BirdandSparrow · 16/03/2020 18:50

I'll double check the shed, maybe it's in the shed.

PotsOfPebbles · 16/03/2020 19:08

I doubt anyone is going to tell you off. I was babysitting at 12. I know they can be funny about things here but given the situation I think they would be relxed right now. You'd probably get in more trouble for taking them with you.
If your 12 year old is responsible I'd go for it.

elQuintoConyo · 16/03/2020 19:11

I've just been to mercadona in the centre of my city, full of stock yet empty of people! Eggs galore, tripping over milk! Generous amount of meat and fresh veg - even bananas!

The girl on the till put half my shopping through, charged me, then did the second half so I could pay under €20 contactless, no touching icky buttons! I love that shop.

Not seen many police today, which is odd.

Stay well, everyone Wine
