Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Thanks @Freezingold.

Babyfairy0923 · 10/03/2020 14:33

319 & 6 deaths 😮 how long before people take it seriously?!

Confuddledtown · 10/03/2020 14:33

4 new cases in northern ireland, bringing total to 16. Locations not given, but given recent news of school closures, and the footballer and another football club affected, at least 6 of those cases are in the Co. Armagh area (portadown, tandragee, newhamiltonstown). At least 1 has been through community spread.

This is my local area, and will all be in my local hospital.

I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant. As I'm diabetic I'm currently scheduled in for a c section at 37 weeks....12 weeks time which is right bang in the middle of the predicted peak. Getting extremely anxious, not just in terms of catching it (me and dd1 both asthmatic so high risk) but what hospital resources will be like when I'm giving birth.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 14:33

Yes that is good news pickle and also that people are getting tested and taking it seriously.

ellangollen · 10/03/2020 14:33

Long time lurker, unlurking... regarding international travel and our woeful response-a friend of mine recently travelled to an African country (1.5 weeks ago) that had no declared cases at the time and on arrival had temperature taken and every passenger arriving through had questions asked about their health and recent travel. Arriving back into Heathrow today and then onto a regional airport there were no checks whatsoever apparently. I'm not sure how successful those checks are but seems baffling that the UK seem to be doing nothing when other nations are

Babyfairy0923 · 10/03/2020 14:33

373 even

Blueberryham · 10/03/2020 14:33

Surely they will close schools soon. They are constantly hinting at it in the media that it may happen soon. Are they preparing people to put plans in place for child care?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 14:34

Italy has NOT suspended mortgages, bill paying or anything else.
If this crisis has taught me anything it's what utter liars the British press actually are!
I think we would have been told. They are talking about the possibility of such measures in the eventuality that things get worse, but I repeat, today, as of 15.33 Italian time, only the British press is saying that.

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 14:35

My DM and I have been discussing the progression for a while and agree it's almost time for her to isolate - she's ready to do it within the next week or so. She's higher risk because of her age - but even if she was to get complications I don't want her in the middle of the peak where getting a bed is likely to be difficult.

Freezingold · 10/03/2020 14:36

@Homkaismycat can you get him to wash his hands as soon as he gets in at least? And then get him to change his top at least and wipe his phone? I basically stood over my family as they didn’t see the point and didn’t let them past the wash basin until they’d done it. It did it jokingly but I think sometimes people don’t see that even one action like that helps.

wheresmymojo · 10/03/2020 14:36

I do wonder if they’ll change this daily reporting when they get high

No, they will continue to report daily to the WHO in the same way all other countries do.

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 14:36

@Blueberryham from what they've said about the peak infection time coming up, and from the hints they've dropped I would imagine the schools will be shut before Easter. Either that or they will shut schools on a rolling basis depending on where the outbreaks grow quickest maybe?

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 14:37

Mojo I didn’t say to WHO I meant the media

Orangeblossom78 · 10/03/2020 14:37

6 in 373 is 1.6% of those known figures who have died so far, quite similar to the 1.8% mortality rate figure I had seen before.

AnneKipanki · 10/03/2020 14:37

@ellengollen
Someone asked this in the press conference yesterday . It does not have any bearing on the spread . Some countries have stopped doing it now as it does not work .

emsy86 · 10/03/2020 14:38

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress if we have learned anything lately is that any document with the word possibly in it , the UK press take that as instant fact!

That graph was interesting tho showing that the measures the government are taking could be slowing the spread.

middleager · 10/03/2020 14:38

I no longer believe the figures.

On here and IRL I know of cases, but they are not being tested because of the stringent rules and ignoring community transition.

LuxLFC · 10/03/2020 14:39

So a surgeon with all the hand washing they do still passed it on eh?! What's the point!
Thanks to the person who posted the link to the hand gels Flowers
This virus is starting to feel like biological warfare or something Hmm

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 14:39

K?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 10/03/2020 14:39

The policy for testing has to change. This is being allowed to run unchecked in communities because of the very narrow testing criteria. 1400 tests a day is nowhere near enough to give an accurate picture.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:40

EU countries are holding a conference call at 4pm today to decide on next steps in relation to coronavirus. They are considering a co-ordinated response in relation to managing the risk.

Among the subjects that are expected to be discussed are borders, health screening and the international effort to contain the virus. One source said the EU had to take the lead given the response of Donald Trump.

joystir59 · 10/03/2020 14:40

What are the latest UK figures? Anyone else think they are being downplayed

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:41

@middleager I wouldnt be surprised if those confirmed in the daily briefing are those who have travelled, and not those who havent.

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 14:41

As of yesterday morning, with a similar population, we had carried out a similar number of tests as Italy had. We are testing enough.
