Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

This page says the number today is at 373

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 14:20

I read a very interesting article by a scientist who said if we assume the fatality rate is 1 per 100 people, and that it takes approximately three weeks between catching the virus and dying from it, we can assume that if in the past week we have seen 6 deaths, that three weeks ago 600 people were infected.

This is the big question in my head. If you catch it, how long does it take to recover? Or alternatively, how long does it take before you die? Or is it completely variable? Is there any data on this?

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 14:20

The numbers will increase for a while yet before the peak is over. I do wonder if they’ll change this daily reporting when they get high.

Agree on people taking personal responsibility. And actually companies are doing well in some cases to manage their own risks so extra guidance isn’t required.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/03/2020 14:20

Scientists find coronavirus can travel four times the 'safe' distance and linger in the air for over 30 minutes https://t.co/Is1B2s8IaDD*

Great! (Sarcasm)

It's the perfect storm really.

Delatron · 10/03/2020 14:20

Yes all deaths in different hospitals. With people who didn’t know they had the virus until they were tested with severe symptoms.

So we can kind of work out what’s been happening and the potential impact there.

It’s different if you are diagnosed and then admitted to hospital and isolated.

Where are all these single hospital cases coming from in people with no travel history?

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:20

But insurance doesn't cover you if you just decide not to go, only if the government say not to travel. This. We booked our holiday at the beginning of January, before COV19 was even a thing... If we decide it's not worth the risk we lose our money (and stand to pay the balance I assume?), or we sit tight and see what happens. Fortunately, so far, there are no travel advisories against going to the UAE issued by the FCO. I assume if one is issued, we will be covered by the ABTA insurance we have paid for as part of our holiday booking. So it's not bailing me out... I had insurance by booking an ABTA holiday.

ofwarren · 10/03/2020 14:20

So what's that in increase of?

SisterAgatha · 10/03/2020 14:20

It’s 373

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 10/03/2020 14:20

I don't think we should be bailing out holiday makers, anymore. You've got insurance, use it and if you don't tough shit

Yes agree but I think insurers are saying they won't cover costs if it's not specifically a banned place to travel. I don't know if this is to prevent insurance companies going bust or what.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 10/03/2020 14:21

@Furfockssake totally agree, thousands have it or have had it unreported as testing is so narrow.. meanwhile spreading quietly.

@Number12 thanks! Yes hopefully the action of keeping them all off work has meant more are not infected, and those with it will have a better chance of recovery with more room at health services. They are not in critical care fortunately so I am also hoping they recover well.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:21

FlamingoAndJohn Where I am people will try to pick their kids up early because they have errands to run(We do have issues with attendance tbf). That, and one or two per school adds up. It just takes a few picking up early, for more to worry and it can snowball.

CarrotVan · 10/03/2020 14:22

As of 9am on 10 March 2020, 26,261 people have been tested in the UK, of which 25,888 were confirmed negative and 373 were confirmed as positive. Six patients who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 14:22

Due to complete lack of testing.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 14:22

@Langbannedforsafeguardingkids ABTA insure package holidays for this reason. Travel insurance companies dont. ABTA bookings include an insurance that means if the FCO advise against travel, you are entitled to a change in booking, or refund. That is why travel insurance does not cover it.

daffodilsandblossom · 10/03/2020 14:23

Strange that they announced they would be late only for them to be posted at 2:20pm when they have been a lot later than that before with no warning

FurForksSake · 10/03/2020 14:23

54 new?

FoxRedBitch · 10/03/2020 14:23

373 so numbers not going up as quickly as Italy.

ShanghaiDiva · 10/03/2020 14:23

I think airlines will start to cut routes and flights will be cancelled. If this happens the airline will refund the ticket price so I would just wait and not cancel.
Ds had a flight booked to visit us in China. This was clearly not going to happen. Flight was for next week. We waited and Lufthansa cancelled last month and just received a full refund.

unluckyagain · 10/03/2020 14:23

On a positive note, my friend who has been very ill in hospital is recovering well. The other 3 people diagnosed with them have no real symptoms and require no treatment other than being isolated.

georgeggg · 10/03/2020 14:23

So they tested 1620 people in the last 24hrs, it's not enough tests being carried out that's for sure.

Furfockssake · 10/03/2020 14:24

@Oakmaiden I will try and find the source of the article I read, but the scientist who wrote it definitely thought three weeks was the average time between catching the virus and dying from it?
