Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

@Firecracker2019 why would u not go? And why would you not swim?

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 12:50

No, I wouldn't @SadThing, phe thinks we will see the peak of the virus in two weeks and I wouldn't want to be in London just for a jolly at that point.

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 10/03/2020 12:51

My dd is due to go to the girlguiding take over at legoland next weekend. It would be madness to let her go right? I honestly think they will cancel/postpone it at the lst hour but it is filling me with anxiety thinking about her going.

SistemaAddict · 10/03/2020 12:52

@MangePasTesOnglesVilain I'm the same and have had a sore throat for a week now and a headache since last Thursday/Friday. Slight fever. Slight cough and tight chest but have asthma. I've emailed my GP but haven't heard back and as I haven't travelled then I doubt they'd be interested anyway.

Fourducksate · 10/03/2020 12:53

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL TAKING CRUISES??

Because the cruise companies are offering them on board credit to continue with their cruise and also a discount on any future cruise.

They are also reassuring people that they are checking temperatures of everyone boarding and checking where they have been and that they have stringent cleaning controls.
*Any guests or crew who have travelled from or through mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Republic of Korea, Iran or Italy within 14 days of embarkation, including transiting through an airport in these locations, will not be permitted to board our ships.

Those guests who have travelled from or through Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand or Japan within 14 days before embarkation will be subject to advanced pre-boarding screening.*

Still wouldn't make me go!

Vintage2020 · 10/03/2020 12:53

@FollowingNow it’s her choice, she will be told to quarantine for two weeks after and that will not be paid (that is now most companies policies)

AvocadoOwl · 10/03/2020 12:53

*Just had a conversation by the coffee machine with a colleague who has a holiday to Italy next week. According to her she will still be going as she "can't afford" to lose the money.

I mean what's to be lost - it's already gone. I really don't understand that attitude.*

I have been arguing this on another thread! Totally agree.

BA have now cancelled all flights in/out of Italy and others may well follow suit. I'm not sure how freely people can drive around Italy but either way things are changing all the time- completely bonkers (not to mention entitled and selfish) to expect to swan over to Italy and continue with your previous holiday regardless. Who knows whether you'd be able to get home.

Have we got this, yet?

emsy86 · 10/03/2020 12:56

When people say they cant afford not to go. What that really means is i cant afford to book another holiday if i lose this money!

Bumblesbumbles · 10/03/2020 12:59

onemouseplace · 10/03/2020 13:00

What worries me about travel at the moment is how quickly the situation is changing. This time last week we were talking about DH going/ not going to central Italy last Friday. He decided against it - but it wouldn't have been out of the question for him to go.

Fast forward to today (when he was due back) and the situation has changed massively and it would be difficult for him to get back at all, and would be in 14 self-isolation. That was not the case when he was going to fly out - only 5 days ago.

lightyearsahead · 10/03/2020 13:00

@whynotme40
We have been asked not to attend any conferences or even travel between offices or face to face client meetings.
I would say you have every right.

I choose not to go to a small local conference last week though I did meet friends for lunch. This week I am choosing to work fro home and avoid the commute. Though I will be meeting friends again this weekend.

katienana · 10/03/2020 13:00

Panicking a bit here. Just heard from Dh who is in another city that 13 days ago he had contact with someone who is now a confirmed case.
111 have told him to self isolate for the next day and if hes ok then fine to carry on as normal.
Obviously I am scared that he has passed it to me or our kids and that we could be spreading it asymptomatically everywhere we go. I have weekly hospital appointments so I could have spread it there. I dont have any symptoms.
I'm going to ring hospital as I have an appointment tomorrow and take it from there.
At the same time the person may not have had it when my husband was in contact so it could be worrying about nothing.
Any words of advice? Husband is staying away tonight to watch for symptoms. Wtf do I do

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 13:00

Umm, that woman in Sunderland. Her close friend has posted on the Echo FB that people shouldn’t worry because she hadn’t left the house for two weeks before she was admitted to hospital. So she hasn’t been abroad, hasn’t had contact with a known case and she caught it more than two weeks ago?!

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 13:01

is to not travel unless essential.

ABTA has some advuice on this

"Q: Which countries is the Government advising against travel to?
A: The FCO currently advises against all but essential travel to mainland China, Cheongdo in South Korea and Italy. The FCO also advises against all travel to Daegu in South Korea.

Q: What happens if my travel plans are affected?
A: Your travel plans may be affected in different ways, depending on FCO advice. If the FCO advises against travel to a destination and your holiday arrangements have been affected, your travel provider will get in touch and advise you of the options open to you.

The safety of travellers is a priority for travel companies, and their decisions will follow Government advice, which is based on their objective assessment of risk.

Travellers are advised to read the FCO travel advice for the country they are travelling to, which includes a link through to the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) TravelHealthPro website that provides specific travel health advice for countries. The Foreign Office also has a specific page with more information on Coronavirus.

Q: Where the Foreign Office advises against travel to a country or a specific resort or area of a country does my tour operator have to refund the full package or only the parts of my holiday that are cancelled?
A: Tour operators can offer alternative holidays if they are able to. If these mean a significant change to the original arrangements, for example spending the whole or part of the holiday in a different country, you aren’t obliged to accept the alternative and will be entitled to a full refund of the package price.

Q: When am I not entitled to a full refund?
A: The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice is in relation to imminent departures and if you have booked a package and are not due to travel imminently, tour operators will decide on an ongoing basis how far in advance they’ll begin offering alternative arrangements or providing refunds. "

However, i don't know if the "except essential travel" means it's a caveat as it's not an outright ban?

NormaLouiseBates · 10/03/2020 13:01

Sorry, hope it's okay to ask this on here... it seems to be the busiest CV related thread. Does anyone know anything about when hand gel might start coming back into stock anywhere? I WFH so I'm okay, it's not for me but H is a delivery driver and there are limited places to wash your hands on the road...

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 10/03/2020 13:02

*Bercows

Good that your hasn't progressed too much, I would think that's a good sign. Hope it clears up soon.

I'm doubling up inhalers just in case. I've got steroids in the cupboard and antibiotics that I have for going away in case I'm ill as I have another lung disease too. Not that they would be first line in treatment for a virus.

I also have polyps and allergies so sneeze constantly, and always sound snuffly which isn't great at anytime but particularly when everyone is looking out for lurgy people.

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 13:02

@katienana the average incubation period is five days, so if your DH had it and had passed it on it is very likely you would have had some of symptoms by now.

SummerSazz · 10/03/2020 13:05

@Bumblesbumble - I read the new testing link - I read it as saying they would not test anyone with flu like symptoms - am I reading it right? Or any NHS peeps who can clarify?

Wejustdontknow · 10/03/2020 13:05

@NormaLouiseBates I work in a asda and we have some come in to stock every day but only 1 box at a time so goes very fast, might be worth finding out what time your local store has their delivery and what time it is unloaded and go then to have the best chance of getting some

SummerSazz · 10/03/2020 13:06

Now!!! Not not ffs

AlfieandAnnieRose · 10/03/2020 13:06

@NormaLouiseBates try lots of different shops. I’ve been in a few and most had hand gel, not the travel ones but pump ones. Or the ones that didn’t they had some the next day. This was in Sainsbury’s

NormaLouiseBates · 10/03/2020 13:07

@Wejustdontknow thank you, that's really helpful. We have an Asda 5 minutes away so I'll make some enquiries Smile

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 13:08

Summer only if they require hospital admission or have travelled from one of the specified areas

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 13:08

Umm, that woman in Sunderland. Her close friend has posted on the Echo FB that people shouldn’t worry because she hadn’t left the house for two weeks before she was admitted to hospital. So she hasn’t been abroad, hasn’t had contact with a known case and she caught it more than two weeks ago?!

Well, if there was community spread in Sunderland two weeks ago, we are going to see a serious surge in numbers.
