Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       <strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong>**,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Thank you @motorina.

georgeggg · 10/03/2020 11:58

@harrietOh how can I find this please?

ForeverRedSkinhead · 10/03/2020 11:59

Thanks @ofwarren , I'm dreading breaking the news that this trip is too dangerous. She's been preparing for a year and was thrilled when she was selected to attend.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 11:59

The case in Sunderland that is in hospital, the woman’s son has publicly spoken and they said they haven’t been abroad and haven’t been in contact with anyone who has tested positive.

This is really useful, thank you. Is he speaking on Facebook or is he talking with the local pres

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 11:59

Emsy it is too soon to be worried. Just make sure you are well insured and don't pay anymore money until you really have to. But at the rate this thing is spreading, I would expect most of us to have had it by then Flowers

Newjez · 10/03/2020 12:00

@FourTeaFallOut

I don't think they are saying person a can pass to b and then b can't pass to c. But it would probably take a little while for b to incubate the virus to enable them to pass it on.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 12:00

@georgeggg on Facebook the local echo has a story from the son, in the comments people have screen shot his public Facebook posts

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 12:01

I'm off to the UAE with my son and husband in August and I must admit, I can't decide whether to think sod it and just cancel or see... our payment is due 4 June.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/03/2020 12:01

My 3 yo bloody licks everything. So on the days I don't work we are now sticking to school run and home/garden rather than our usual many outings to the library, playground, shops etc.
It means he is having more screen time than ideal, but is reducing my stress levels a bit!
However the large secondary school I work at is being very blasé. And the kids have a new game of coughing at each other then running away... I am worried about catching it at work. There is no way I can keep a distance from students. I'm in the minority of worriers here though.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 12:02

That's interesting, John Campbell has Ben saying that you can become infectious form infection in as little as 12-24hrs, is there reason to doubt that Newjez?

ForeverRedSkinhead · 10/03/2020 12:02

Thanks also, @KarenTookTheKids , I guess I'm hoping that the school decide to not go ahead, they're quiet so far and probably using the wait and see approach.

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 12:03

CJT, we have Italy booked for July... we have decided to wait and see what happens in the hope we can actually get some money back. Nothing to be gained from us cancelling now. Mentally, we are assuming it won't be happening though.

Looking for the Sunderland post 🤷‍♀️

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 12:06

Forever, I feel for you. We have a DC booked for a European school trip in May, I also would find it easier if it is cancelled and the decision taken out of our hands. I feel so sad that he will miss out on this plus our family holiday, he has never been abroad so was incredibly excited. Obviously that is small fry in the grand scheme of things but I think it is ok to be a bit sad for our DC missing out on experiences!

WhyNotMe40 · 10/03/2020 12:06

I am supposed to attend a subject
specific sharing good practice conference soon with delegates from all over. There are known community acquired cases near me as well. Do you think I could reasonably refuse to go given that I'm already very exposed to infection from students? I am extremely probe to chest infections despite having no underlying health conditions

SEEN IN KIGALI: To prevent the risk of #Coronavirus outbreak, passengers at the Kigali Bus Park have to wash their hands before getting onto buses.

#Rwanda has recorded NO case of the epidemic but the country has stepped up vigilance. t.co/tb7cfUNj7K

PurpleCalm · 10/03/2020 12:07

We have an abroad school trip in June. Been told to sit tight and see how things pan out, as expected. It's paid in full but school have travel insurance and a school insurance that will pay out if needed.

peachgreen · 10/03/2020 12:11

DH has what I think is sinusitis but I'm so panicky about it potentially being something worse. He can't get a doctor's appt for two weeks - understandable but very frustrating because I'm pretty sure he needs antibiotics at this point - he's had it for a fortnight already.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/03/2020 12:12

Bollocks, that's all bad.

Fourducksate · 10/03/2020 12:16

@ForeverRedSkinhead

I'm afraid I don't think I'd let my child go. Have you spoken to the other parents? What is the school's take on it.

My dd is due to go to London sometime in June, we will see what happens by then. However, in 2 weeks, we may be at the peak, if the USA is a little behind us, they may be too by the time she is due to come back.

I wouldn't say no just yet, as the decision may be out of your hands anyway and of course she will hate you for that!! I would say you will look at it nearer the time. It probably won't make much difference to anything whether you decide yes on no right now and things may be clearer in a week or so.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 10/03/2020 12:18

@Fourducksate I've emailed the ht and am awaiting a response. I'll get on the parents' email group and see what they say.
