Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

I used to love my fingerless gloves I've been wearing all winter... now I just think "how useless"!

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 11:18

I’d say you still have to remember not to touch your face with the gloves on otherwise they don’t do much to help.

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 11:19

It occurred to me because of the push panel doors etc at work

I was wearing a scarf yesterday and used that to press all the buttons and open all the doors etc in the office.

I think it's certainly good to have something to use as a barrier between you and the surface you need to touch.

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 11:19

Pointless I heard a politician on a local radio station here in NI say they are currently looking at that, which makes me think school closures are highly likely.

Fourducksate · 10/03/2020 11:19

Anyone who wants to travel anywhere must be off their rocker. Especially on a germ ridden plane. Have a holiday at home this year.

ds said yesterday, a close friend at another school, posted a photo of him In Rome, I said ‘no way he’s in Rome now sure he won’t be able to get back’ anyway this is in the paper this morning Apparently they went on Saturday!

This is the problem, a lot of people just don’t think there is one!

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:20

We're off to the UAE but in August...

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 11:21

Yeah - I think the most important thing, actually, is don't touch your face. It doesn't really matter what is on surfaces (and by extension your hands) if you don't touch your face (or lick the surfaces, I suppose). So, again, the "wash you hands" doesn't protect you as much as it protects the more vulnerable. Or those who do lick surfaces.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:22

@Oakmaiden My son, for the first time ever IIRC, licked the lift button the other day. He's 5. facepalm

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 11:23

Oh that made me laugh what a thing to do atm Grin

crispycracker · 10/03/2020 11:24

@Oakmaiden

Great post regarding your number crunching- really helpful

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 11:24

I was wearing a scarf yesterday and used that to press all the buttons and open all the doors etc in the office.

But do you wash your scarf daily? Because strictly speaking- - IF the virus had been on the door handle (which is almost certainly wasn't) you then have the virus hanging on a cloth around your neck. Which you are going to then grab again, next time you come across a door. Can you be sure you are not touching part of the scarf that touched the door handle before?

I mean, I think the risk is very low, but I think it is low from just opening the door with your hand and not touching your face too.

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 11:24

saying that they're not going to play football matches behind closed doors etc because people 'will just go to the pub' which doesn't sound like a government in control

The easy solution to this would be to ban pubs showing matches and make them free to air until the end of this season so they're on BBC or ITV. Yes Sky and BT Sport would moan, but these are not normal times and the season is nearly over. The BBC could easily put the matches on the red button.

A family member is flying to Dubai today and then on to Bali Confused

Oakmaiden · 10/03/2020 11:25

@cjt110

I am genuinely laughing now. Blooming children. But yeah, that is exactly the sort of thing I meant.

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 11:25

Can you be sure you are not touching part of the scarf that touched the door handle before

Probably true actually! And in the morning I had used a glove to press the button of the train to open the door, and yesterday evening put the glove on.

PointlessUsername · 10/03/2020 11:25

@KarenTookTheKids thanks.

I wonder how it will pan out, DD is doing her Mocks at the minute and has be working so hard. I hope all those taking Exams get a fair chance.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 10/03/2020 11:25

Does anyone think it will be ok to holiday in the uk right now and just avoid abroad or would abroad be OK by car?

middleager · 10/03/2020 11:26

Matt Hancock just tweeted to say he's answering questions on Instagram. That should be er interesting....Hmm

crispycracker · 10/03/2020 11:27

Just had a tesco delivery. The driver said a couple of the houses on his rounds told him they had confirmed CV and he had to leave the items outside!

He also said one of the other drivers had CV and was "had been an idiot" and had been continuing delivering.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 11:27

He can’t be feeling too rotten! Re driving

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:28

@Oakmaiden I hate to say it but i thought "WTAF" when he did it Shock What a donkey.

MarshaBradyo · 10/03/2020 11:29

I like talking to Ocado delivery people about it as they have views from frontline ;

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:29

@crispycracker Where abouts are you - are there confirmed cases where you are?

ChipotleBlessing · 10/03/2020 11:29

The virus survives much better on skin than fabric, so you are definitely better off using a scarf or gloves. You’re also less likely to touch your face when wearing gloves.

Foobydoo · 10/03/2020 11:30

@Fourducksate Wigan local authority told schools that if they make the decision not to go on trips then no refunds will be given.
A Wigan primary school had to make the decision not to go to Italy skiing at the weekend with all losing their money.
The school are now trying to fundraise to refund parents.
