Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Just been to the GPs for something non-related and the doc has the current NHS pathway info on his desk... it's rather a bare sheet of paper to be fair.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 10:53

Nothing yet on Italian news about the suspension of mortgage payments.

Kuponut · 10/03/2020 10:53

And I am now quietly hoping universities close before my really shitty exam I'm going to do badly on! (fuck you phonetics!)

MmeAlice · 10/03/2020 10:54

Sorry, I mistranslated. There will be no flights from high risk areas allowed to land, not flights out of denmark but incoming.

We now have 156 confirmed cases, 7 of which are hospitalised. There is no information about whether they are in a critical condition or in critical care.

Newjez · 10/03/2020 10:54

@Cheeseismylife

Overdosing on some vitamins is dangerous. Please Google for symptoms. Vitamin c will just wash out of you as it's water soluble. You would need to get it administered intravenously if you are using it as an anti viral, by trained medical staff, and I think it's still pretty experimental.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 10:55

Could someone also clarify for me... The government have advised against "all but essential travel" to Italy and the affected regions. Is this classed as a travel ban? And what do they class as essential given that I saw on the news, a man who had to show he had a work meeting in Milan so was permitted to travel

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 10:57

The start of the UK peak of the coronavirus epidemic is expected within the next fortnight, England’s deputy chief medical officer has said.

Dr Jenny Harries defended the Government’s decision to delay closing schools and the introduction of other stringent tactics, saying experts are assessing new cases on an hourly basis to achieve a “balanced response”.

treedragon · 10/03/2020 10:57

Anyone who wants to travel anywhere must be off their rocker. Especially on a germ ridden plane. Have a holiday at home this year.

FingonTheValiant · 10/03/2020 10:57

Well in France we’re at 1412 and 30 deaths. Schools are still open except in the clusters. But when I phoned yesterday to say DS3 would be off for two days the secretary was quite flustered and asked for a full list of symptoms and confirmation that he’d seen a doctor.

Here the 15 service (a bit like 111) in some areas has recruited medical students and retired doctors to man the phones as the number of calls has exploded.

A cruise ship is currently stopped just outside Marseille due to two suspected cases. They’ve been taken off for testing, but the ship has to wait. (Whey are people even still getting on cruise ships? That American couple suing a provider for a million dollars for negligence might lead the lines to think about a suspension...)

And an infectious diseases specialist has given an interview saying we’ll catch up with Italy in a few days. So faster than anticipated. We’ll see.

Oh, and my school is going ahead with our open morning on Saturday Hmm. I’m not sure that’s a fabulous idea.

Interestingly the statement by the EMA that their could be a shortage of medications is being reported by some as «EMA says shortage of medicines is possible», and by others as «No immediate shortage of medicines says EMA». Very different reporting styles.

^^ is a summary of the updates found here www.lci.fr/sante/en-direct-coronavirus-covid-19-25-morts-en-france-110-000-cas-dans-le-monde-l-italie-en-quarantaine-2143314.html
Except for the things about my family and my school, which are obviously not being reported in the French national press Grin

Random I know but has anyone actually considered wearing gloves when out and about? I saw 2 people buying surgical type gloves one after another in the shop yesterday.

It occurred to me because of the push panel doors etc at work....

Delatron · 10/03/2020 11:05

Yes @picklemewalnuts
The figures were quoted on here with a source saying that of the 80% of mild cases 40% of these were moderate with pneumonia.

So not that mild and without wanting to panic people, if the general public understood what ‘mild’ actually meant then maybe they would take any self isolation measures seriously. Yet still they go on about this being a ‘mild’ disease for most and completely down playing it. Probably to justify why more hasn’t been done....

It will be interesting to see how it pans out in countries that have taken more powerful measures. Do they have access to different research to us??!

MmeAlice · 10/03/2020 11:09

Denmark called upon the civil defence force 'Hjemmeværnet' to take over the corona virus helpline after some hasty training on Friday.

mummumumumumumumumumum · 10/03/2020 11:09

when do we expect to see an updated list of cases? the page says 9 am but it hasnt changed from yesterday

BIWI · 10/03/2020 11:10

2pm is when the figures are updated

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 11:10

There's no good information about home sanitising methods either.

We know the hand spray needs to be +60% alcohol, but what about the disinfectants? I'm going with standard zoflora disinfectant dilution and spraying everything that stands still. Am I wasting my time? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Number12 · 10/03/2020 11:11

The Italians (CDC, Director ICU Italy) are telling us to act NOW! Otherwise we will be in the same situation as them. Why won't our government listen?
Our hospitals are telling us we don't have enough ICU beds, staff or equipment.

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:11

My husband is flitting between "It'll be fine" to panic to "It'll be fine" to panic and anger.

Last week he suddenly said "we need to stock up on some tinned goods"

This morning when I said there had been a 5th UK death he said to me "You need to stop listening to all of this - it's worrying you" Then 10 mins later "It's idiots like that that are the reason we will all get it - we should all be isolated!" (Referring to a patient who attended a GP surgery, coughed at the receptionist then said they think they have COVID19)

I can't win.

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 11:11

What about steam cleaners? Perhaps I'll dig mine out and spray everything that's not organic!

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2020 11:12

My hypochondriac tendencies are starting to kick in. Either that or stress! Sheesh.

woodencoffeetable · 10/03/2020 11:13

@cjt110 my employer (in public health) recommends wearing (ordinary winter) gloves when out and about.

PointlessUsername · 10/03/2020 11:14

If the schools do close what will happen with those taking GCSE and A Levels?. Will the tests be taken at a later date or stay the same i wonder.

Number12 · 10/03/2020 11:16

Did someone say that the dettol spray is a bad idea as it hits the surface and pushes any virus up I to the air? Also did I read that a antibacterial wipes needs to be in surface contact for 5 mins for it to work?

Also pp mentioned that the virus is in wee/poo, if people are using public bathrooms I imagine the virus is in the air from flushing with open loo lid?

cjt110 · 10/03/2020 11:16

@woodencoffeetable Thank you. And what about when you're at work itself? I work in an office

cologne4711 · 10/03/2020 11:17
