So now I can't buy toilet paper or nappies in my local store and can't book a doctors appointment...!

I get the "fear of the unknown" but seriously!?

It's no worse than flu! Flu kills too and (most) people don't panic buy every winter. COVID only seems to be affecting people with underlying health issues. The flu vaccine doesn't always work as influenza changes all the time. I don't get it.

I'm just so bored of all the drama.

Unless I'm missing some vital information that hasn't been shared publicly?????

OP posts:
Kateplaysrugbyinmydreams · 09/03/2020 22:12

You are a bit dim op. It's going to get really nasty. This is the wild card event that causes havoc.

YgritteSnow · 09/03/2020 22:13

I don't think OP is dim. I think threads like this give some much needed balance. It's a terrifying time. Constant dwelling on the terror and horrors to come helps no one.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 09/03/2020 22:16

Idiots. The media is largely to blame for all the hype.
The whole of Italy has been locked down... I don’t think you can blame the media for that. I’m sorry this virus bores you and is such an inconvenience.

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 22:18

This is the wild card event that causes havoc

That sounds like some sort of 'Mystic Meg' prediction, except hers were probably more accurate.

SnoozyLou · 09/03/2020 22:28

From another thread.

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 22:33

Fascinating that is. For those in Italy, anyway. Perhaps.

DianaT1969 · 09/03/2020 22:35

Todayisnot - I am genuinely intrigued about your thinking. Can you expand on why you are so sure that what is happening in Italy won't happen in the UK?
By that, I mean areas locked-down, public building closures, curfews, travel restrictions, no public gatherings allowed. Deaths in the region of 40-60 per day. Another 500 infected people reported each day, despite the early and drastic measure?
We appear to be 2 weeks behind them in terms of numbers and spread.

DianaT1969 · 09/03/2020 22:37

Italy deaths jumped to 463.

IcedPurple · 09/03/2020 22:50

`Can you expand on why you are so sure that what is happening in Italy won't happen in the UK?

As of now, while there have been reported cases in about 100 countries, only 4 - China, South Korea, Iran and Italy - have been severely affected. So while nobody knows how things will proceed in the coming weeks and months, assuming that what happened in Italy will happen in the UK seems premature. Italy is thus far the only European country to be severely affected.

Floooy174 · 09/03/2020 22:54

Personally I think it’s all a bit OTT

SnoozyLou · 09/03/2020 22:54

Again, pinched from another thread.

Jesus wept. Would you have such a nasty attitude if 463 people just died in a plane crash?

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 23:10

Can you expand on why you are so sure that what is happening in Italy won't happen in the UK?

Not once have `I said 'I am sure that won't happen here', I have said I have seen no persuasive evidence to suggest that it is likely, so I will do what I always do and proceed on the basis of fact and probability.

We appear to be 2 weeks behind them in terms of numbers and spread.

But that is way, way too simplistic and narrow a way of looking at it. What about all the other countries it has spread to that have not seen anywhere near the same numbers Italy has - why are we so likely to follow suit when even some countries actually bordering it are not seeing anything like the same numbers/ trends?

Wa1kthisway · 09/03/2020 23:10

It's reminded me how sad it must be to live in the "self isolation" indefinitely.
We are lucky it's just a brief and annoying fortnight and that the majority of us don't struggle to get our basic amenities without asking someone else on a regular basis.
But what about people who are so unwell, alone, vulnerable?
This is the norm, day in and day out for them. Not seeing another person from one day to the next.
Relying on someone else to get food to them and working round someone else's commitments.
The majority of us are so lucky.

AmelieTaylor · 09/03/2020 23:12

Fuck me. I’d love to be SO stupid that I couldn’t read articles from Drs, virologists & listen to broadcasts from WHO.

To simply decide for myself that China locking down 1/5th of the worlds population & Italy putting the whole country in lock down is just ‘hype over nothing’ or hysterical nonsense.

It must be lovely to live in denial.

Except when you’re hungry, a family member can’t get treatment for a stroke and you’re wiping your bum on the curtains & your DH can’t get a space in the hospital to be helped to breathe!

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 23:16

Jesus wept. Would you have such a nasty attitude if 463 people just died in a plane crash

Nice spin on my words there, all come out to play now haven't you?

My point - once again is (though I'm pretty sure you already get it) - it is not fucking RELEVANT to the UK CURRENT CV STATISTICS or proof that we need 'lockdown' or whatever else anyone else wants to call it. Not that it isn't fucking well sad. Jesus did fucking weep, indeed.

Cherrysherbet · 09/03/2020 23:21

COVID only seems to be affecting people with underlying health issues.

Selfish beyond belief. I am lucky to have no underlying health issues. I also recognise that many people in our country do, and I can’t begin to understand how scary this must be for them.

Sorry you’re bored of the ‘drama’, but you really need to pull your head out of your arse and consider others. This could potentially be a fucking disaster for thousands of people, both for health and financial reasons.

Classic case of ‘I’m alright Jack!’ 🙄

Lynda07 · 09/03/2020 23:22

'Bored of' the madness? 'Bored of' all the drama? Not 'bored of' death?

You can buy toilet rolls and nappies online easily enough, they'll be delivered the next day.

I made a doctor's appointment for next week today.

I am however not bored with or bored by the natural concern about coronavirus.

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 23:26

Except when you’re hungry, a family member can’t get treatment for a stroke and you’re wiping your bum on the curtains & your DH can’t get a space in the hospital to be helped to breathe!

Yep, and people keep stirring up panic, guess what? That stroke patient can't get through to 999 as they're too busy dealing with with the spike in anxiety/ MH related problems/ people convinced they have CV19. The homeless/ those on UC starving as 'lockdown' has been prematurely demanded before needed. Wiping arses on whatever - yup, made necessary by those being sensationalist and creating panic buying. Oh and DH btw, he can get a bed, no one to look after him though as so many nurses off because people have demanded the schools shut.

@Bestnewshoes The Oxford Dictionary now considers "bored of" to be standard English too.
.........
You are wrong there (neither is starting a sentence, never mind a paragaph with 'So'); you should know better.

Oh, the absolute irony .....

Potentially, yes, but people with attitudes like you are NOT helping, nor are you being more considerate of others than the rest of us.

SnoozyLou · 09/03/2020 23:31

I wonder how many of these people who are saying it's only like a "touch of the flu" (who've clearly never had the flu) are queuing up to be infected with COVID19 to test the vaccine? Go on, put your money where your mouth is. Surely it's worth three and a half grand, not to mention all the good you'll be doing.

SciFiRules · 09/03/2020 23:36

You all seem to love the disaster element! Yes it's a significant threat but it's made worse by panic. There is no need for toilet roll, paracetamol or nappies to be in short supply - it's just the stockpiling idiots causing the problem. Indeed if there are to be shortages it's better not to over stress the supply infrastructure.

todayisnottuesday · 09/03/2020 23:51

You all seem to love the disaster element! Yes it's a significant threat but it's made worse by panic

Agreed. Some people are actively wallowing in it all.

Purplewhitelie · 09/03/2020 23:53

WHO has warned us ‘this is not a drill’. If governments say run. Run very fast. Except ours which seem to be going against world virus experts?
