@Eeyoresstickhouse it's only what my childminders text me as they know it affects DS and they wanted to orewarn me

crispycracker · 09/03/2020 20:07

@SummerSazz
"Do we know anything about whether this virus gets circulated via air con? I don't think I've seen anything other than some comments as to this may have been a transmission route on cruise ships."

From telegraph:

Coronavirus could spread around buildings via air conditioning systems or even on a draught, new analysis has suggested after scientists found traces of the virus in a hospital air duct.

The results from swab analysis of the rooms used by three coronavirus patients indicate that the disease may be more contagious than previously thought.

Even though the patient though to be responsible was suffering only "mild" symptoms, scientists from the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in Singapore found evidence of the virus in the hospital's air exhaust. This "suggests that small, virus-laden droplets may be displaced by airflows and deposited on equipment such as vents", they said.

@CharlieTangoBanana mine is one of the big London hospitals that receives coronavirus victims.

I think your respiratory team sound lovely. I really hope you stay safe.

seasmize · 09/03/2020 20:09

@Floooy174

They can’t keep themselves safe on their own. That’s up to us too.

These are vulnerable members of our community, many of them already dependent on care, and btw 8% of the ICU patients in Italy are between 25-49, so don’t assume you’re safe. Younger people just take longer to die from this disease.

LangClegsInSpace · 09/03/2020 20:09

I don't know if this has been posted earlier but it's worth watching the whole press conference and not relying on the BBC's (or whoever's) interpretation:

SummerSazz · 09/03/2020 20:10

Thanks @crispycracker - I think I might revisit wfh after that!

WouldShouldCould · 09/03/2020 20:10

patient at the Royal Sussex Hospital has been confirmed to have the coronavirus – they were diagnosed by chance in a random test and medics don't know how they caught the illness

Eeyoresstickhouse · 09/03/2020 20:10

@DonkeyKong2019 thank you for giving me the heads up though. Will see what our childcare say tomorrow.

Quartz2208 · 09/03/2020 20:11

@HerstoryInTheMaking but Merton had one so it could be that. Or it could have been recorded as a Surrey case which ended up in St Helier. Or it could have been just before death.

Addresses in this area though (I live here) can be odd in terms of recording it as Merton/Sutton/Surrey depending on whether it was to the patients address or not. But anyone living in those areas could have ended up there

HeresMe · 09/03/2020 20:11

*Just seen nail techs in Rome on Ch 4 news. You can still get your nails done but they take your temp on the way in.

does anyone elses temp go up when on their period?*

Is this a joke post, I'm not worried at all but having nails done just be way down on list.

HeIenaDove · 09/03/2020 20:14

Its way down on my list too. Havent had painted nails since 2004

I was just making a point about how a small part of the economy in Italy is trying to cope Hmm

PANIC AS YOUNGER POPULATION INFECTION RATES RISE IN ITALY

An Italian doctor has told how coronavirus cases in Italy no longer appear to be among the older population.

He said the ages of patients he had been treating ranged from 46 to 83.

The doctor added: The last days are showing a younger population involved as if the elderly and weaker part of the population crashed and now younger patients, having exhausted their physiological reserves, come to overcrowded, overwhelmed hospitals with little resources left.”

Delatron · 09/03/2020 20:15

Agree @crispycracker. I find it very worrying the original patient 1 in Italy was only 38 and became so ill to end up in intensive care. I’m guessing as a marathon runner he was pretty fit too.

@SummerSazz
It doesn't bode well for plane travel if it does. But I would have thought that if it was measles or smallpox like, we would have seen greater numbers.

ShanghaiDiva · 09/03/2020 20:18

@ChardonnaysPetDragon
I didn’t realise you were a China expert. I was there at the beginning and the Chinese did not just contain Wuhan. All provinces were effectively locked down and movement between provinces was extremely difficult. The public holiday was extended, everything was closed - how is that not putting people first.
Other countries had the opportunity to shut the border to chinese arrivals. Some did eg Australia from 1st Feb, others did not.

Newjez · 09/03/2020 20:19

@WouldShouldCould
Royal Sussex is my local, do you have a link?

peachgreen · 09/03/2020 20:19

Thanks @halcyondays. I've done some reading and it seems like in around 90% of cases the fever comes first. DH definitely doesn't have a fever so I'm trying to stay calm.

heyduggeee · 09/03/2020 20:22

Hi everyone, I've been watching these threads for a week or so. Just wanted to jump on with a question - which may have already been asked before, but what are people's plans for self isolating, in terms of reducing the risk to family. It's very likely in the job I'm in, I'm going to come into contact with Coronavirus at some point. But if I self isolate/ start getting symptoms, I can't comprehend what will happen with my DP and small children. I wouldn't want them in the house with me for the two weeks. has anyone thought about this or is the answer so obvious I'm being stupid. Confused

This is a link to the Protezione Civil live update maps we are all following here. They're often ahead of the news.

Our little town has a big high security prison and the inmates have set fire to bits of it today. Dp was driving home and said there were: the police, the prison staff, journalists, animals from the Circus which is unbelievably open, labourers tarmac-ing the road outside the prison, wives of prisoners shouting abuse and grannies taking kids to the Circus.

DonkeyKong2019 · 09/03/2020 20:28

@heyduggeee I'm a very single parent. If one of us gets isolated we will all be stuck indoors. Now it's becoming very real I'm trying not to have an anxiety attack at the thought of losing my respite. My older child has SEN and i rely on the 4 x 5.5 hours a week to cope

Thetigeronthewobbelboard · 09/03/2020 20:28

Re: St Helier, often people will be brought there from Epsom way by ambulance, even if it isn’t their closest hospital so I can see this being logged as a Surrey case quite easily, rather than Sutton. My grandparents lived a two minute walk from Epsom Hospital yet still had paramedics trying to take them to St Helier on occasion.

Facingtheunkown · 09/03/2020 20:29

Updated Italy zone 1.

Our school has sent us a new update.
But there is nothing about airports.

I wonder, perhaps every airport in that region falls outside the no go zone so people can still arrive through them.

Oh well folks. It's clear its been decided to let this run through us like a sword. Let dc catch it in crowed, stuffy packed schools.
Let dp get it.
Tell us not to visit our elderly (but still send college students out on placements to homes etc).

And let's hope for the best. Confused

Maybe ban large gatherings but allow packed schools and colleges with 1000 to 2000 people on site mingle..

peachgreen · 09/03/2020 20:29

@heyduggeee We're pretty much resigned to the fact that if one of us gets it, we all probably will. But DH and I would do everything we could to avoid having it at the same time, just to make childcare easier. So we'll keep our distance, sleep in separate beds and use separate bathrooms where possible.
