Lancet article on COVID-19. This is a very respected journal and these are respected scientists. The graph within shows clearly that they need to flatten the peak so as not to overwhelm NHS.
Also key message is that social distancing is essential. People, IMO, should be limiting their non-essential social interaction now. Cinema, theatres, sporting events etc (yes, economic impact, but fairly minimal and will be offset by people buying movies etc at home and purchasing live streamed entertainment - government intervention to help hard hit industries may be required)
Unclear is rate of transmission by children. I have been all for school closures and I still think that this is a sensible move until it is proven they are not asypmtomatic / mildly symptomatic superspreaders. I would not support continued closure of schools if it is shown that this is not the case - hopefully research on this is being prioritised. IIRC we already have one case of COVID-19 in a child in the UK. Mind you, there may be an issue with number of teachers further down the line.
Likely to be infectious a few days before symptoms (this is contrary to PHE current advice which a lot of instutions - e.g. Oxford University - trotting out as gospel - I hope they review that guidance now).
