Shanghai morning Smile
Yes, thats the next focal point isn't it to see whether theres a resurgence as Chinanstarts to relax is restrictions.

Closing so many hospitals would seem to indicate they don't expect a particularly high spike, is that encouraging, idk, you know China better than I

Sounds like getting out of Milan will be hard work if EasyJet and BA has stopped. But surely nobody would have gone recently expecting that this wasn't a possibility.

I do think schools with dx pupils /teachers should close for 3 weeks .

By the way Flowers to all school staff ,I know you won't get them as you'll almost certainly br too bust to be on here .But huge thanks .

And Flowers Flowers to medical and non medical workers in the NHS.Especially to those having to wear those deeply uncomfortable and sweaty protection outfits .

EmpressSuiko · 09/03/2020 09:23

Thank you Eeyoresstickhouse, that all makes sense now. I just wish they would disclose where in Devon the 12 cases are so we could make appropriate decisions.

WaterSheep · 09/03/2020 09:24

In a letter to parents, the school said the pupil had shown no symptoms after self-isolating for 14 days as a precaution, so returned to school at the end of last week.

But the child felt ill over the weekend and was diagnosed yesterday, and is currently isolating at home.

I wonder if the pupil was positive for the virus when self isolating, but no symptoms means they weren't tested.

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 09:24

Its zoonotic wettham

My take on it has been that with slow spread community (or herd Hmm) immunity is built which protects the most vulnerable, as all the while immunity builds in the community, it reduces the spread potential of the virus, 80% being quoted as the minimum iirc

GPs have started stopping routine appts and moving to phone consultations, can't make anything online at mine for the next couple of weeks

Motorina · 09/03/2020 09:26

Can we now surmise that the 80% that have no remarkable symptoms could be it’s Trojan horse?

Sadly, '80% have no remarkable symptoms' isn't true. I outlined this in more detail a few threads back, but that 80% splits roughtly 50/50 into mild and moderate disease. Moderate disease is defined as pneumonia, but not needing hospital admission.

Under normal circumstances, the average man on the clapham omnibus would not consider pneumonia as a mild cold, or nothing to worry about.

My source for this are pages 12 and 13 of the WHO report that came out a week or so ago, and I think is linked in the OP.

Shanghai Disneyland to resume some resort ops, main park still shut on virus worries t.co/S0Kmek1oDp t.co/oakv6MA7vQ

ShanghaiDiva · 09/03/2020 09:26

Hi User
Agree, closing temporary hospitals would indicate that.
Tents have been erected outside local schools which suggest a temp checkpoint so perhaps they will reopen next week.
Some places have reopened eg flower market and shops have extended opening hours so slowly, slowly...

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 09:27

It says Ryanair is still flying, on their website it says

Ryanair has been forced to cancel up to 25% of all Italian short haul flights for a three week period from the 17th March to 8th April, in response to the Covid19 virus.

So stopping from next week but not now...hmm

santoslhalperrr · 09/03/2020 09:29

@EmpressSuiko - Pretty sure if you had the virus you wouldn't want anxious fretting people knowing exactly where you lived. They only want to tell the people required to know where risk is elevated. People who have been "outed" are receiving all kinds of threats and trolling.

My GP just said today at a routine appt he's sick of hearing about the virus, and that as long as people follow the guidance the risks are so low that you'd be better off being concerned about falling over in the shower or other household dangers.

His prescription: stop reading the headline grabbing news and turn off the tv for 48 hours.

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 09/03/2020 09:31

@EmpressSuiko we live in a tourist honeypot county too and have 5 cases, 2 in our local authority. They aren’t specifying where and its a relatively large area containing 5 towns, so I’m just working on the assumption its everywhere and acting accordingly. What else can we do?

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 09:31

Empress
CMO is not keen to divulge a more local level because of the negative impact on the sufferer as a result. There has been experience of this, hence all location info removed, but now back at a local authority level.

In other countries some have apps that have street level specific info. I'd hate that.

This is a real concern, link below.

Have to say my school are struggling anyway with numbers of staff absence due to normal viruses and stress.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 09/03/2020 09:33

Actually quite topical..

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 09:35

Santo your GP Confused its really not the same as household accidents, they are not bringing economies to their knees, or overwhelming healthcare!

Jist sounds CV weary, its your GPs job to inform the public to keep them safe, they need a day or two off (if they work ft that is)

OP posts:
EmpressSuiko · 09/03/2020 09:35

I don’t want to know exactly where people live but it would be a comfort to know roughly what areas, Devon is huge and we live close to Exeter so it would just be nice to know how close it is to us.
We are all going about our normal lives at the moment and taking extra precautions when out, I have asthma and I read mixed advice regarding how it could affect asthmatics and my father has COPD and is in his 60s so I’m also concerned for his sake, luckily his isn’t in contact with too many people as he works from home.

FurForksSake · 09/03/2020 09:36

MK are reporting another case, had been to Spanish Islands but no where at risk. Was on a ward and then they tested just to be on the safe side. So we will probably see a rise in numbers over the next week to two weeks.

As the incubation period is 14 days (or 24?) I guess we won't have any clue how widespread it is for a while?

usernameishistory · 09/03/2020 09:38

....hmm, I'd wondered what Ongles were Grin

EmpressSuiko · 09/03/2020 09:38

In Exeter the hate crime being reported is awful, there are a lot of students from abroad or of Asian ethnicity who are being treated so poorly, it’s really disgraceful so I understand the need to protect people from harassment or worse.

Spacecadetagain · 09/03/2020 09:39

There is now a confirmed case in the next village to me

WaterSheep · 09/03/2020 09:39

That as long as people follow the guidance the risks are so low that you'd be better off being concerned about falling over in the shower or other household dangers.

I don't think downplaying this is helpful. The fact is whilst many are following the guidance given, there are just as many who aren't.
