Will you go ahead with Easter travel plans

Just curious as to whether people that have holidays booked over Easter plan to go ahead with their trips?

DSis is on the one hand insisting that her DCs primary should shut but at the same time has no intention of cancelling her family holiday in Europe over Easter Confused

Your sister is bonkers!!!
We usually book something last minute in the UK for a few days over the school Easter holidays, this year I think we will stay close to home. We have a holiday booked for Spain in August which we plan to go on unless the FCO advise no travel.

1066vegan · 08/03/2020 09:23

We're going to Madagascar at Easter. I've wanted to go there for years and there's no way I'm cancelling. Very few cases in Africa at the moment although I suppose airports could be risky places.

Eminybob · 08/03/2020 09:50

Yep, we have 2 weeks all inclusive in Turkey booked for the Easter holidays and unless the airline cancel I’m going.
It’s our first holiday abroad in ages, it’s my 40th birthday and we’ve spent a hell of a lot more than we would normally spend on a holiday.
Apparently Turkey is safer than the Uk anyway. It’s probably more of a case of if they’ll let us in!

cocopops · 08/03/2020 09:54

Just cancelled a trip to Vienna with DD. She’s about to sit public exams in April/May and there’s no way I’m risking being stuck in a hotel and not getting home for revision!

Aworldofmyown · 08/03/2020 10:26

We're going to Florida at Easter, keeping our fingers crossed it will be OK.

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 10:28

I think anyone who travels in this situation deserves all the get tbh.
The virus is increasing and advice will change as it grows. Chances are by Easter you won't be able to travel or will be quarantined both outward and inward, bit of a crap holiday.

ValleyoftheHorses · 08/03/2020 10:33

Too soon to decide, it’s a month away yet.

I’d like to postpone TBH but will the FO warn against all travel even to destinations that have less Covid than we do?

Anyone know if package companies will allow us to postpone maybe paying a rearrangement fee?

Rockbird · 08/03/2020 10:34

My elderly (although they'd hate me calling them that) parents are going on a cruise over Easter. I'm desperate for them not to go.

ifonly4 · 08/03/2020 10:35

I really don't know, we're going to review it a few days before. There's far more cases here than where we're going to, so we're more likely to take it with us, but that could all change. One thing that was mentioned on the news worth bearing in mind, is if they have a similar standard of healthcare to here.

We're going somewhere I've wanted to go for ages and due to work, there isn't a window where we've got more than four days together later in the year.

Solitaryconfinement · 08/03/2020 10:37

I’m off to New York in a weeks time. Unless the airline tells us can’t travel we will be going. It’s an awful lot of money to lose otherwise and we’ve been looking forward to it for a long time. Extra hand washing and general careful hygiene - it’s all you can do.

So glad I have this username now Hmm

TheFluffiestCat · 08/03/2020 12:35

We have a UK holiday booked with friends from all over the country. We will go unless advice changes.

cologne4711 · 08/03/2020 13:01

No holiday plans. Were going to visit mum in Devon, will have to see how things develop.

Mid April I have to pay the balance on our May half term holiday (in the UK) so will have to make a decision about that.

Anyone know if package companies will allow us to postpone maybe paying a rearrangement fee I think you would have to ask them. I know from today's Sunday Times that some cruise firms are allowing people to cancel and giving them a voucher so they can rebook later. Tour operators should do something similar, allow you to change the date or refund you with a voucher to rebook later. They keep your money but you know you can go at a better time.

youareatwatadmitit · 08/03/2020 13:09

I suppose airports could be risky places

It's not just your destination, think of your out- going airport and all the thousands of people coming in from who knows where.
All those lift buttons, hand rails, door handles, toilet locks etc.

Wolfff · 08/03/2020 13:10

I’ve made hotel and train ticket reservations for a trip to Scotland with DH in May. I can cancel the hotel not sure about the train. I will wait and see how things pan out. Don’t want to get ill far from home.

We are due to visit my Mum in west Cumbria for Easter. Again it will depend on whether any of us are ill or near to outbreaks.

We live in London with two student daughters in South East Universities. I think it is fairly likely that DH or I will pick it up due to longish commutes on tube/train. He works with the general public and I work in a filthy office that is never cleaned properly with hot desking.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 13:13

My sis is still going to Dominican republic at easter.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 13:14

My parents are visiting me. I hope they still come. Not seen them in months.

KitKat1985 · 08/03/2020 13:34

We're doing a UK break for a week in the Easter hols. I'm a bit concerned everything will be shut!

Throughthegate · 08/03/2020 13:38

Is anyone thinking of the impact of them travelling to the place they are visiting? Rather than the potential impact on you? Especially those from already hard hit places such as London.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/03/2020 13:40

We are due to go to Butlins at Easter. We're going unless official advice not to.

elQuintoConyo · 08/03/2020 13:43

Southern France for a week, but driving. Hoping everyone else freaks out and cancels, so we have the castles and museums to ourselves Grin We're planning lots of long walks with the dog and picnics, weather permitting. There haven't been any cases where we live or where we're going.

KaptenKrusty · 08/03/2020 13:45

Off to Japan April 4th

Just booked New York flights today as well for the summer

I won’t be cancelling anything and will be on flic it a unless it’s officially banned from travelling to those places

BackInTime · 08/03/2020 13:49

I guess it largely depends on the holiday type, destination and your family circumstances and health. A holiday abroad staying in a busy resort or a cruise with lots of people seems more risky right now than a holiday cottage with just your own family.

HollyHocks13 · 08/03/2020 13:51

Going to Italy (Sicily) in 3 weeks and then the US in the summer. Planning to go to both at the moment and would be crushed if we couldn't go but will follow Foreign Office advice...

JassyRadlett · 08/03/2020 13:54

Especially those from already hard hit places such as London.

Can you share the evidence that London is particularly ‘hard hit’, please? Very curious to see the analysis.

PaddyF0dder · 08/03/2020 13:55

Probably not.

We’re due to go to Ireland for easter to stay with the grandparents. I strongly suspect we won’t be going. Haven’t booked anything yet.
