Will you go ahead with Easter travel plans

Just curious as to whether people that have holidays booked over Easter plan to go ahead with their trips?

DSis is on the one hand insisting that her DCs primary should shut but at the same time has no intention of cancelling her family holiday in Europe over Easter Confused

I would not be going on a cruise for love nor money....

weegiemum · 08/03/2020 21:48

We're going to the Outer Hebrides for a week and NI for 4 days (visiting mil) and have no intention of cancelling.

PrincessMargaret · 08/03/2020 21:51

We were going to Rome at Easter. I've cancelled as I think things will only ramp up in the next few weeks. My main concern is getting stuck somewhere, or not being able to go to work.

Canshopwillshop · 08/03/2020 21:52

@Perihelion- oh bugger, going to get the fine toothcomb out and go over our policy tomorrow!

AnneElliott · 08/03/2020 21:55

Holidaying at Easton the UK. Still going unless Gov advise against it.

Throughthegate · 08/03/2020 22:08

I emailed my travel insurance company to ask (have annual insurance) and they replied to say they normally get back within 24 hours but were dealing with a high level of coronavirus related enquires. So I don't know yet. I have flights booked for Easter and for the summer holidays. I am not currently wanting to cancel, just want to know where I stand.

DakotaFanny · 08/03/2020 22:52

People who do have the right insurance- please can you let me know who you are covered with and confirm that you know you are covered in case you can’t go and / or you become ill when you’re there? I’m thinking an extra £100 on a new insurance policy might be worth it for peace of mind!!

Thanks

Sunshinesky1981 · 08/03/2020 22:55

If you go online and look at Aviva, they cover it if you add the additional travel disruption cover. But check ti make sure that it hasn't changed and they are still doing it for new policy

DakotaFanny · 08/03/2020 23:06

Thank you Sunshine. Quote comes out at £300 - eeeekk! Medical conditions aplenty here though! Still thinking it might be worth it!

NeckPainChairSearch · 08/03/2020 23:14

I suspect that the travel landscape by Easter will be very different from the one we have now.

I doubt there will be quite so many people saying 'we're going and no way we're canceling etc.' at that point.

Spacecadetagain · 08/03/2020 23:19

My DM is cancelling her trip to Florida in May . She’s not concerned about going there but more about the airport and plane .

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 08/03/2020 23:23

I have already postponed travel plans, I don’t want to risk taking this virus to my family.

Notcontent · 08/03/2020 23:27

My dd is supposed to be travelling to a European destination in April and I am pretty sure that will not be going ahead. As someone else pointed out, the situation in April is going to be very different.

Devlesko · 08/03/2020 23:29

I wouldn't go anywhere atm, chances are you'd get stuck somewhere, hotel or cruise, and numbers are increasing or changing daily.
It's not just catching the virus either, what sort of holiday if you end up quarantined.

KaptenKrusty · 09/03/2020 07:23

Changing daily exactly - Easter is ages away so it’s far to early to make a decision! But if it’s a choice of losing 6k and staying home or going on the trip - I’m obviously going ! Couldn’t care less if I’m quarantined. Life is too short - are we all meant to just hide out and live in fear indefinitely

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/03/2020 07:28

I’m thinking even with adequate insurance the numbers are likely to have risen to get access to healthcare will only be for those most vulnerable and those most ill not because you have insurance

Insurance companies can not decide for healthcare providers who should and shouldn’t have care it will be down to who most needs it

w00dlander · 09/03/2020 07:28

We are going for Waes for a week. Very rura location.

Unless we are actually banned from going I see no reason not to. We can avoid people by self catering everything rather than having a few meals in the pub etc. Realistically the only contact we need to have will be petrol station and top up shopping which we'd be doing here anyway only there it's small local store.

Obviously if we are well we won't go but that's the same if it was normal flu.

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/03/2020 08:00

Exactly. All the insurance in the world doesn't get you a bed that doesn't exist.

A work colleague of DH has decided to go ahead with a trip to Italy next weekend. He was due to go to the rugby game which has been postponed so has decided to just go as hotel and flights not refundable. Others in the office as less than happy about this, not only due to the risk to the business if they get it and have to self isolate but also as some are immune compromised or are caring for elderly parents. They have asked that he does not return to work for two weeks and he is not very popular.

OP posts:
KaptenKrusty · 09/03/2020 09:38

So what if his colleagues aren't happy? lol - I wouldn't care about upsetting other people - he is right to go!

Once he self Isolates at home on return and stays away from the office then what is the harm? He has done everything right!

ssd · 09/03/2020 10:48

Yes, surely if he goes then self isolates fir 2 weeks then he's doing the right thing? The news from Italy seems very confusing. I'd imagine it'll be very quiet when he goes but I can understand him not wanting to lose so much money.
As long as he self confines I wouldn't have a problem here. If he's not wanting to do this then you have a problem.

Tulipstulips · 09/03/2020 11:29

And this is why China is managing to contain it and we won’t.

CeibaTree · 09/03/2020 11:32

All the people blithely saying they are still planning to go unless the FCO advise against it, have you considered if CV really takes hold in the UK, that the countries you are planning to visit might not even let you in? So I think it is too early to say whether any Easter travel plans are likely to go ahead.

We were planning to visit family in France, but luckily hadn't booked anything, and we've decided not to go. Not because we are particularly worried about getting it in France, but more at the airport etc. Or becoming stuck in quarantine during or after the trip..

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/03/2020 11:40

Yes, but again, unless that happens or the FCO advises against travel, insurance isn’t going to cover cancellations for most people.

Your trip isn’t really comparable because you haven’t booked anything yet. May is a popular wedding month, there will be loads of honeymoons, as well as Easter holidays and late skiing breaks etc. Some of those are a lot less hassle and expense to cancel than others!

It’s too early to tell what will happen and what restrictions we’ll have right now. Milan have said it gripped them so badly due to patient X travelling extensively before the authorities knew he was infected, and their elderly population. It may not take hold the same way here; and if it does; and it’s in the expected waves, some travel may still be possible. It’s all just guessing right now.

DeadBod · 09/03/2020 11:41

We have a holiday booked in 3 weeks to Budapest. I'm wavering but dh isn't worried at all. We're both in the healthy age bracket but the spread to family members on our return and the threat of having to isolate is a big factor for me.
