Will you go ahead with Easter travel plans

Just curious as to whether people that have holidays booked over Easter plan to go ahead with their trips?

DSis is on the one hand insisting that her DCs primary should shut but at the same time has no intention of cancelling her family holiday in Europe over Easter Confused

so many "what if's" we can't see into the future - cancelling a trip that is in a months time now wouldn't make sense! may as well wait and see if it gets officially cancelled and then you'd get the money back!
Nothing you can do but wait and see

CeibaTree · 09/03/2020 11:56

It’s all just guessing right now.

That was the exact point @AnchorDownDeepBreath that I was trying to make in the first part of my post. I only mentioned the trip we decided not to do to answer the OP's question as to whether or not we would be going ahead with with Easter travel plans - I am aware that this is not the same as people having to cancel already booked trips!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 09/03/2020 12:02

I've booked legoland for the end of the holidays (luckily added the cancellable thing) - we're going to leave it to the last minute to make the call about going - on the one hand, it should be empty I'd expect, which would be awesome, on the other, we don't want to catch spread corona - especially to grandparents.

Wait and see basically.

LoonyLunaLoo · 09/03/2020 12:28

We’re going skiing in Canada at Easter and will be going unless things change drastically by then. There’s no cases in my area and very few in Canada so we’d be fools to cancel already.

heyjoeyitsestelle · 09/03/2020 13:15

Unless we literally cannot fly there we are going to Florida over Easter.

Monkeybunkey · 09/03/2020 13:36

I've got a canal boat holiday in the UK planned for over Easter with family. I've no intention of cancelling (first holiday for 2 years). We'll only get our money back if the holiday company cancels the trip.

BackInTime · 09/03/2020 14:42

*So what if his colleagues aren't happy? lol - I wouldn't care about upsetting other people - he is right to go!

Once he self Isolates at home on return and stays away from the office then what is the harm? He has done everything right!*

@KaptenKrusty I think the issue is that unless people start to think about what possible consequences their actions could have for others then we are fighting a loosing battle with this thing.

OP posts:
KaptenKrusty · 09/03/2020 14:50

What do you suggest then @BackInTime ? no travel at all allowed anymore indefinitely?

Of course most people are "selfish" and out for themselves - the fact that if we don't go on the holidays we have spent a lot of money on - we literally lose all the money - OR we can take the risk and go and enjoy ourselves and not waste the well earned holiday out of fear! Unless the official advice is that it is actually not allowed to travel to a destination then i'd never cancel.

The planet is in trouble with global warming and most people couldn't give a shit and won't do a thing to try and change that

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 09/03/2020 14:57

Travel insurers have no choice but to pay out to people who already have policies? It’s irrelevant what their thoughts on it are. Haha

Completely incorrect. They will only pay for a cancellation which is covered, usually only if FCO advises against all travel to that part of the world.

Going to Cape Verde in 4 weeks. Will still be going unless the travel advice changes for that part of the world.

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/03/2020 15:00

At this rate I think people maybe need to change their perspective a little and consider whether those countries will be welcoming us in..

ValleyoftheHorses · 09/03/2020 15:02

I’m paying the £50 per head rearrangement fee plus any price difference and moving our Easter holiday into 2021.
Feel happier for that decision.

KaptenKrusty · 09/03/2020 15:02

@chocolatesaltyballs22 yes if you read my next posts I clarified that I will only get my money back if the trip is cancelled officially - which is why I am still going!

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 09/03/2020 19:40

I mentioned this yesterday and saw this in the news today. British couple infects Vietnamese people everywhere after catching the virus in the plane while sitting 2 rows behind an infected person

It is not just about you catching the virus or not, but about you passing it on to countless other people

TSSDNCOP · 09/03/2020 19:45

That’s not a fair headline. They contracted the virus on the flight from another passenger. It’s not like they knowingly ran all over Vietnam.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 09/03/2020 19:49

At this rate I think people maybe need to change their perspective a little and consider whether those countries will be welcoming us in..

Exactly this!

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 09/03/2020 19:50

The fact that they didn’t know, doesn’t mean they didn’t pass it on. It is not their fault but they massively contributed to the problem regardless.

zafferana · 09/03/2020 19:57

We're due to go to Israel, but I don't think we'll be able to go. Today PM Netanyahu announced that all overseas visitors will have to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. It comes into effect on Thurs for two weeks initially. We're due to go in three weeks' time and I can't see things improving by then. If Israel bans us from going that's probably good from an insurance/refund point of view and tbh I've now got to the point where I don't really want to go anyway. So much of what we wanted to see is likely to be closed and I don't want to fly or expose us all (as much for everyone else's sake as ours, as we are fit and healthy and

NailsNeedDoing · 09/03/2020 19:59

If the plane is still going to my Easter holiday destination, I’ll be on it.

Devlesko · 09/03/2020 20:01

We should quarantine everyone coming into the country, wherever they have been. The same for all countries.
People still keeping the economy going, airlines survive, only just. We won't have to have a virus from a selfish traveller infecting people all over the place.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 09/03/2020 20:02

Yes?!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/03/2020 20:29

We are booked to go to Thailand for Easter. I can't see FCO advising against travel but I am very concerned that The Thai authorities won't let us in or would insist that we spend 2 weeks in quarantine.

We will be forced to cancel if that happened and would lose the £10k we have paid for what was supposed to be a holiday of a lifetime for a special birthday.

We will travel if we are able to and are keeping everything crossed at the moment.

minipie · 09/03/2020 20:33

We’re supposed to be going skiing in France, 29th March. Can’t see the ski resorts still being open by then tbh.

drspouse · 09/03/2020 20:37

@minipie we're going to Norway, I think we have a better chance.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 09/03/2020 21:03

Can’t see the ski resorts still being open by then tbh.

We are going to the Tirol which currently only has 25 cases (and none in the exact area where we are going), but the problem may be that we are supposed to be flying into Munich. We will have to wait and see what the developments are.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 09/03/2020 21:05

Italy is in lockdown now so doesn't look likely.
