ITALY— 103 deaths in #Lombardy IN ONE DAY!

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 17:01

"1018 cases in Germany and not a single death"

Jumping We're still all rooting for that ex-transplant patient who is gravely ill in ICU, to recover
Transplant patients have their immunity medically lowered of course, to avoid organ rejection
That may yet be the first death, poor sod

Eeyoresstickhouse · 08/03/2020 17:01

Hello oldqueen same area Smile

Winchester closed down and went all posh hahaha.

I am hoping it isn't students that have come down with it! Also hoping it doesn't get into Christchurch as it will possible decimate the population with them having the oldest average age in the country!

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 17:01

Really, it also sounded like MK family and... Others on the ward complained and after 6 hours he was moved and tested.

pussycatinboots · 08/03/2020 17:01

One day? OK, now I'm worried.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 17:02

Poor chap.

But that's still fabulous!

DonkeyKong2019 · 08/03/2020 17:02

Wow there's quite a few of us from the BCP area on here!

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 17:02

103 deaths in #Lombardy IN ONE DAY!

Do you have a source for that please?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 08/03/2020 17:02

Bigchoc- I don't know tbh. There are a million "desperate doctor" videos during the rounds and a lot of them are fakes. So that needs to be taken into consideration too. The postal police (deal with cyber crime) are threatening prosecution for some who have been traced.
But undoubtedly some of them are genuine. Tbh, the only ones I've seen on TV news have been talking about potential situations IF the self isolation and other measures aren't adhered to.
Our town's hospital closed early this year and it was mooted this week it may reopen but that was quickly discounted.
It needs to be remembered too, that like anywhere, but especially so here, TV channels are owned and run by political factions so depending on what you watch, you get a different slant.
Also, again, similarly to the UK, the Italian health service is fab, sure, but was on its knees long before this happened. Other current affairs programmes often send hidden cameras into hospitals (Milan, Rome and Naples famously so) to show patients being treated in corridors for days at a time, relatives having to come in and care for their loved ones because there's nobody else to do it etc etc.

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 17:02

We're waiting for Italy's national update but, based on Lombardy's update alone, there are at least 100 new deaths, according to local media. Full figures in a few minutes.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 17:03

" i also showed you the quote that was from Nicola Sturgeon stating that it was worst case scenario. This was after the cobra meeting that would also have included experts..."

So could a politician possibly have got confused with all the medical opinions and scenarios

or have Whitty / Vallance lowered their worst case scenario

  • I'd want to hear that from them, not her !
tud41 · 08/03/2020 17:03

@nellodee or if you want the actual video its here... sometimes i think you would be disappointed if not that many people die. any normal person would read or hear this and think, ah yes that's encouraging... not you tho, you seem desperate for a real life disaster movie...

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 17:03

Just waiting for the full figures @watersheep
That info is from local media. It's looking dire to be honest

Eeyoresstickhouse · 08/03/2020 17:03

Hello donkeykong as well!

DonkeyKong2019 · 08/03/2020 17:04

At least 100 new deaths in Italy. That's obscene

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 17:06

Just waiting for the full figures That info is from local media. It's looking dire to be honest

No worries. Pleas post when you get them. The figures seem too horrific to comprehend.

Anyone else worried about the huge surge of people who have now left the red zones in Italy?

ChipotleBlessing · 08/03/2020 17:06

I don’t know why people are determined to think we’re already at the stage of widespread community transmission in the uk. We would be seeing increased unexplained serious cases if that were happening. So either we don’t have it or there is a new, much milder strain circulating.

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 17:07

Russia reports 2 new cases bringing total confirmed cases there to 17.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/03/2020 17:07

Bookme I was mainly thinking of the article by that doctor in the Indie, not social media

iirc, Lombardy has an excellent health service, but Southern Italy not so good

According to gloabl stats, Italy has twice the number of critical care beds per 1,00 pop than the UK does
also more beds generally and more doctors

So they may well have had problems before in some regions, but maybe not as bad as you'll find in NHS hospitals re people lying on trolleys for hours

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 08/03/2020 17:08

I'm from BCP area too!

wheresmymojo · 08/03/2020 17:08

Shit

littledrummergirl · 08/03/2020 17:09

On benefits?

If you don't volunteer there's no benefits, unless you can demonstrate you are a single parent or carer who has a dependent.

(Do not be surprised by this becoming a policy)

I was thinking exactly the same thing in bed last night.

So those who were financially able to travel bring a serious infection into the country. Anyone who can stay home to avoid it should, except the poorest in our society who have no hope of travelling abroad and enjoying the luxuries of travel are made to put themselves in the line of danger or starve.
Great policy! Yep I'd vote for the people who decide that this is a good idea. If you think people were angry about brexit I think this idea would take that anger to another level...

OldQueen1969 · 08/03/2020 17:09

@Eeyoresstickhouse and other Bournemouthians / close neighbours hi there :)

Ah yes, the demise of the Winch was much mourned in my social circles..... have to say the refurb was very pretty though - but yes, way too spendy to be a regular visitor now ;)

Hope you all are muscling through these uncharted territories as well as can be expected......
