@NettleTea thanks. So no point then.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 14:55

The page has not updated for me.

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 14:55

I have our local newspapers on notification on twitter for that reason neuro
Our local authority updated the 2 cases here as it happened.
I think you are right that it's not really classed as news now as there are so many. The Oxford one is more of a "story".

georgeggg · 08/03/2020 14:58

The PHE hasn't been updated today yet, those are from yesterday, it was updated early evening yesterday and went up till 9am on the 7th March.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 14:59

So we will get an update later?

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 14:59

First #coronavirus case in Wolverhampton has been confirmed. Also St Gabriel’s School and Pre-School in Tamworth is to be closed for "a few days for a thorough clean" after a member of staff tested positive for COVID-19 t.co/DaRWq9xrae

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 15:00

Tud Apologies for nitpicking, but you said

well the government has gone from a worst case scenario of 500,000 deaths to 100,000 including 25k that would normally die of flu

However, the report you linked says

The chair of the Royal College of GPs has said this 100,000 figure is a ‘worst case scenario’ rather than a certainty.

So it's not the Government changing their mind on the figures.

georgeggg · 08/03/2020 15:00

@skyejuly yes they said it would be updated later.

Vietnam reports 9 new cases of coronavirus, all of whom arrived on a plane on Monday. They include 7 people from the UK, 1 from Mexico, and 1 from Iceland t.co/eUoE2b20hL

myrtleWilson · 08/03/2020 15:01

I think @namechangemania is referencing the regional totals (as they reference East of England) which are up today - its the LA ones that haven't yet been updated today and are in arrears

nellodee · 08/03/2020 15:02

The 100,000 is not a worst case figure. It's a "central estimate" figure from "an unnamed official involved in the planning".

www.politicshome.com/news/uk/health-and-care/illnesstreatments/news/110418/ministers-plan-100000-coronavirus-deaths-rishi

So, not a worst case scenario, but just a middle ground, this is what we should expect and base things on, scenario. And presumably based on the government taking precautions like shutting schools, and reducing movement in some way at some point anyway.

Ah my apologies, I missed the bolded part at the top of the article, which mentions ministers preparing for the new figure.

NEW: Washington state Governor Inslee says he's considering "mandatory measures" to stop the spread of coronavirus t.co/7zsW7dBeeZ

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 08/03/2020 15:05

273 cases now, unsure why sky news are reporting before the PHE page is updated

georgeggg · 08/03/2020 15:05

The regional ones have been updated now.

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 15:06

Mine has updated now.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 08/03/2020 15:07

How strange, it’s still showing yesterday’s figures for me Hmm

Vietnam reports 9 new cases of coronavirus, all of whom arrived on a plane on Monday. They include 7 people from the UK, 1 from Mexico, and 1 from Iceland t.co/eUoE2b20hL

What? That suggests we are like Italy and that loads of us are infected.

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 15:07

One official involved in the planning told the newspaper: “The central estimate of deaths is about 100,000.

“Everyone has been focusing on the worst case but this is what the experts actually expect to happen. Some of those people would have died of other flus.”

Thank you nellodee that article provides a great explanation.

myrtleWilson · 08/03/2020 15:08

There was a lag @ItsAHardKn0ckLife1- mine was showing an update change but data was the same - a couple of minutes later it corrected itself.

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 15:09

NEW: Spain reports 96 new cases of coronavirus and 7 new deaths, raising total to 613 cases and 17 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

WaterSheep · 08/03/2020 15:09

HasaDigaEebowai I wonder if the 7 UK cases were related / traveling together? If not it does look very concerning.
