I'd be interested to know if the newly recruited 111 coronavirus advisors can work from home. A neighbour is a retired NHS psychiatrist who is an at risk group but he's keen to be involved in the service (and is very level headed).

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 14:21

The regions are given a day behind. Yesterdays ones arent on there yet

BloomedAgain · 08/03/2020 14:22

I wonder if the media will start covering the issue of undertesting.

OldQueen1969 · 08/03/2020 14:24

According to the Guardian the Italian lockdown has been officially ratified.

I hope those implementing it aren't treated shabbily by those they are seeking to protect. I want to have faith in humans but sometimes it's tricky.....

Strange and interesting times...... understatement of the century.....

crispycracker · 08/03/2020 14:24

@IntergalacticSuperstar

Thanks for that very interesting

Little bit of good news from China the chart at the bottom right shows cases have l slowed right down and recoveries are on the rise 80K ill 60K recovered won't be much longer before those two meet up!..

Possibly due to the UK cases being spread out and not having an epicentre we have not started social distancing measures as yet. In Italy at the beginning the first cases (apart from the 2 tourists in Rome) were all from the same small areas and their lockdowns started from there. Saying that we don't know the locations of the new 67 cases from today's report.

Reality check here

Similar level of panic and in end 426 died

Horehound · 08/03/2020 14:26

@wobblywindows mhmm but I think we have to get real and just accept a lot of folk are going to get this.
All we can do is follow guidance, wash hands and keep as healthy as possible.
As we know, the majority of people recover..

Horehound · 08/03/2020 14:28

And maybe this is just mother nature..survival of the fittest... as brutal as it is

Notashandyta · 08/03/2020 14:28

Can someone post a clicky link to site with cases by area for the UK please?

Babyfairy0923 · 08/03/2020 14:28

@Sunshine1239 that’s interesting

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2020 14:28

Is there any need?

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2020 14:29

Lol, wrong thread

MissPoldark · 08/03/2020 14:29

@Sunshine1239 thanks , but unfortunately we’ve already got enough data on this to know that it’s going to be very different with this virus.

GPwife2411 · 08/03/2020 14:30

@horehound we don't think or say this about cancer etc. and other causes of mortality, so why on earth should we just accept that now?

MissPoldark · 08/03/2020 14:32

Although of course the worst case scenario for swine flu never came to pass, and we’d better hope & pray that’s also going to be the case this time.

Butterwhy · 08/03/2020 14:32

@Sunshine1239 ahhh swine flu. I worked in a pharmacy at the time, and so many people came in to collect their tablets from phone consultations saying yep I've got it and coughing everywhere. None of us caught it though, wondering if people phoned with the symptoms so they would have tabs in just in case as they ran low at one point, or whether we were all lucky! Anyway, to avoid too much thread drift, I don't remember the same level of panic?

@BloomedAgain an interesting concept, not sure if it's feasible but would be ideal if it was for business continuity etc. The clinical advisors tend to listen in to calls from others though, and offer clinical advice when required, I'm not sure how tricky it would be to put in place the telephony infastructure for that in people's homes. The content is also protected by data laws due to being of a personal nature, so in an uncontrolled environment and with an array of different devices not sure if it will comply. If this was due to be extremely protracted then the investment might be worthwhile, but it's a huge undertaking and I'd be surprised.

Horehound · 08/03/2020 14:33

@GPwife2411 some do...
Anyway that's a whole other debate with literally no meaningful outcome because nothing is going to change so prob not worth talking about.

oneteen · 08/03/2020 14:33

Italy had very few swine flu cases ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_in_Europe

MissPoldark · 08/03/2020 14:34

I think with swine flu it soon became apparent that it wasn’t as serious as we initially feared it could be. Unfortunately we can’t say the same for Covid.

Bottleofcorona · 08/03/2020 14:34

I thought the UK numbers may be higher today. Maybe it being a Sunday has something to do with that.
