I’ve spoken to EasyJet regarding my Flight to Milan in coming weeks
As long as who or European aviation doesn’t say don’t fly to north Italy they’ll continue flying. So I don’t understand the “nobody comes in nobody leaves the lock down areas”
Im glad I’ll be only losing 120£ and not more

peachgreen · 08/03/2020 13:23

Thanks all. Think I'm going to use it as standard in cooking and baking once it gets close to its use by date.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 08/03/2020 13:23

Because it's not a legal enforceable lockdown at the moment.

NEW: Netherlands reports 77 new cases of coronavirus and 2 new deaths, raising total to 265 cases and 3 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

SistemaAddict · 08/03/2020 13:25

@peachgreen I use it for everything so tea, hot chocolate, custard, cheese sauce. Ds will have it on cereal too. It tastes far better than it used to years ago.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 13:25

Bercow

Do you mean oral steroids?

SistemaAddict · 08/03/2020 13:27

Yes, prednisolone. For exacerbations.

Fourducksate · 08/03/2020 13:28

@somanydevices

If I was due to come to your event, I think I’d be quite relieved to hear that you were going to rearrange at a later date when the situation is more clear.

IntergalacticSuperstar · 08/03/2020 13:29

If this is of any interest, Korea keeps very detailed records on hospital patients and the details are also available to the public, so they're starting to compile ages, pre-existing conditions, etc of the people who have died from the virus. FB post update on Italian action from article in the Independent.

Interesting that it has two likes - usually there would be around 30/40 for articles I post.

Two comments, both from people who are ‘at risk’ through health issues. One saying they are being careful but carrying on as normal, the other still planning on going on their cruise in August.

I think everyone else must be selectively reading.

seasmize · 08/03/2020 13:33

Why is his country worst affected? I'd expect London and Paris to have most cases

France has almost 1000 cases now many of them around Paris, despite barely testing.

I do not believe the U.K. is testing properly. Despite finding a dozen non linked cases scattered around the place there has been no reports of clustering, which is unheard of with this disease. Also the U.K. has exported cases to Poland, Australia (x 2), the US, and just now Vietnam has announced 9 tourists who came from London have tested positive.

When you are exporting so many cases, and you have unlinked local cases you have a lot of cases.

They are only testing cases linked to travel (to an out of date set of countries) and contacts of confirmed cases. Even with confirmed cases they are testing people only if they came into contact with cases when they were symptomatic, despite the WHO reporting this can be passed asymptomatically. (See the story about the Finchley dentist). The so-called Sentinel system is supposed to be randomly testing people with respiratory symptoms — but only ones that aren’t usually COVID symptoms (per Pulse).

It’s a time bomb IMO.

I completely agree.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 13:36

In some ways I think testing is not that relevant. Random testing could result in complacency - for example you could test negative today and then go out and be infected tomorrow. You're only negative at the point of test.

The best thing we can do is follow the advice given, ie focus on hand hygiene, self isolate if appropriate and go about our everyday lives as normal.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/03/2020 13:37

jumping there's a really good children's section and downloadable asthma plan thing on asthma UK that it would be worth getting school to follow, as a total aside to this virus.

I know schools can be rubbish with asthma; I know as I'm a teacher.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/03/2020 13:38

That’s pointless - vodka is what 35% alcohol? Won’t do anything. Chemists sell rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit that’s 70% & much cheaper!

Ok, cheers for the tip.

theskyispurple · 08/03/2020 13:38

I'm stunned, a well respected nurse i know has told me they are making no specific plans or arrangements for covid, that is just flu and that flu kills more people, and that people survive and no one in the local health region is panicking. She works in a team who look after a specific group of immunocompromised patients in the community.
i guess some people need to see the evidence right in front of their eyes, I'm not just talking about her, but the whole team that was at the same meeting.

I don’t think they should be randomly testing.

I do think they should be testing everyone who has the symptoms-not just testing them if they ah e symptoms and have been abroad.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 13:43

@fedup21 That makes sense.

I agree with that. In Wuhan there were reports of it taking up to 8 tests before it finally validated obvious cases. Could be we are testing too early here and not repeat testing.

But it’s important the low numbers are not used to fuel an “everything’s ok here” mantra, because the longer you leave this to spread without measures the worse the outbreak will be.

Personally I’d like to know if there are cases in my town!

Delatron · 08/03/2020 13:44

Completely agree @seasmize
We have seen there are cases now with no travel links. There will be clusters and we need to find them and take appropriate action. Yet we’re not testing enough. We’ll have a situation worse than Italy if we carry on like this.

Remember Italy stopped flights from China and have locked down towns.

Donenow1 · 08/03/2020 13:44

I couldn't agree more. I haven't posted for years but have been following this very informative thread closely and have finally logged back in. Daughter now 18 luckily in reasonable health. Not so husband who is 72. Bloody sister in law who lives in France despite her brother (my husband) advising her not to come due to this virus is coming over on 14th March from France. I have already been advised by my GP that husband must avoid this virus at all costs as must I due to having heart valve problems. I'm afraid she won't be visiting here.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 13:44

I went to see my GP last week for a routine appointment. She's not at all concerned about Coronavirus for the majority, ie those without underlying conditions.
