@vivariumvivariumsvivaria I assume your DC is still a child? Children’s ITU beds are different and, given that children are generally very mildly affected children’s beds won’t be under anywhere near as much pressure. Your DC would almost certainly get a bed if they need one.

Exochord · 08/03/2020 11:45

Tesco this morning taking stuff off people at the tills to prevent bulk buying of essentials. Saw one couple go through separately, each with their own bottle of hand wash and antibac spray.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 08/03/2020 11:46

Chip this time of year is particularly bad for dc with breathing issues. Something about air?
March /April ish time.

HasaDigaEebowai · 08/03/2020 11:50

The Costa Fortuna is on its way to Singapore after Malaysia and Thailand both refused entry.

Sorry but that made me laugh Grin. The "costa fortuna"? Seriously?

stuckinreverse · 08/03/2020 11:51

buteyko breathing/nose breathing might be worth a look for asthma & anxiety sufferers, a 98 bbc qed documentary about it helping with asthma

obviously do your own research & read up on it before you proceed, some of the breathing exercises can induce calm & lower your heart rate so caution needs to be taken for some. i'm in no way affiliated with buteyko but had great results with the small breath holds exercise in helping with panic attacks & anxiety.

rosie1959 · 08/03/2020 11:51

Just a question will all these anti bac wipes do any good as it is a virus ?

HasaDigaEebowai · 08/03/2020 11:52

Like other states, the official travel advice from Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) still does not warn against all travel to Lombardy, the northern region of Italy that has been entirely ‘locked down’ but we’re told that the guidance to travellers remains under review today.

From the guardian live feed

LarkDescending · 08/03/2020 11:57

@rosie1959 Some manufacturers claim their wipes kill viruses including “human coronavirus” - e.g. see this Dettol one:

A statement was put out from a football club near me last night that one of the visiting players was called after the match to say he had tested positive for Coronavirus. So he knew he might have it, got the test done and still went and played football. Goodness knows what effect that will have on the local area.

redstararnie76 · 08/03/2020 11:59

Sadly, we have our own problem with 'fake news' and people struggle to tell the difference. A few years ago locally we had a red weather warning for snow, and many people were unable to differentiate from the Daily Express' headlines 'worst winter ever' etc and a genuine weather warning from the Met Office - there was lots of sneering and disbelief, and then we all got snowed in and everyone seemed amazed.

redstararnie76 · 08/03/2020 12:01

I think this is a similar attitude being displayed with the coronavirus - many people assume that it is just scaremongering...

NaturalBornWoman · 08/03/2020 12:01

It saddens me that so many of you are ready to write off anyone over 60. I am over 60, am pretty fit and healthy, no underlying conditions, and I'd be bloody annoyed if they didn't treat me.

Yes, too bloody right. I’m hoping that since I’m likely to continue to be a higher rate tax payer for at least another 5 years they might throw me a lifeline. Sorry but I’m not ready to go yet!

DonkeyKong2019 · 08/03/2020 12:03

I'm not surprised no one wants a cruise ship full of Italian passengers docking!

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-number-of-cases-in-england/coronavirus-covid-19-number-of-cases-in-engla

Sorry to ask again, but does anyone know if these can be right? It's still listing the number of cases in Reading as 0 even though there has been a death there. Is it that they are not counting deaths or is it that the person lived out of the area but passed away at the Royal Berkshire hospital?

LarkDescending · 08/03/2020 12:05

I don’t think the mood of the thread is relaxed about the threat to the over 60s.

Speaking for myself, I have over 75s, over 85s and over 95s in the family and am not relaxed about any of them! (Neither are they, before anyone suggests they are probably ready to go etc).

LarkDescending · 08/03/2020 12:06

@Sunshinesky1981- I don’t understand the basis of the official numbers either.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/03/2020 12:07

ChipotleBlessing Thank you - he's 13 now, so, you know, not tiny any more.

He's still (just) under the care of paeds, they keep kids like him on until 16 because his history is so tricky.

Realistically, kids like him have only survived since inhaled steroids became a thing. Hurrah for inhaled steroids and all the other medication which did the trick when he was little. Asthma care is amazing.

Thanks for the reassurance, I really hadn't thought about the paeds service being different. Appreciate it.

woodencoffeetable · 08/03/2020 12:09

my relatives have now seen the light: as pisa and florence are close to the quarantines regions in italy they try to return home early now. phew.
they are in their 70s and definitely in an at-risk group due to health conditions.

keepmoving · 08/03/2020 12:09

@Sunshinesky1981 there are some unallocated cases. Unless he's from Wokingham LA which covers south reading and therefore falls in their numbers? (1-4)

mumoftwodc · 08/03/2020 12:09

@scatteredmama82 I had to take time out from the thread yesterday afternoon/evening as I realised it was consuming my thoughts and disturbing my sleep. I feel much brighter today and the sunshine is helping.

GPwife2411 · 08/03/2020 12:10

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria - I've been using similar logic to reassure myself about my high-risk child. Not asthma but T1D. The paeds crew will be planning for children like ours to come in, if they catch it, with a lower threshold for admission ... and they should get a bed, in the very best place possible, if they need it. xx

LarkDescending · 08/03/2020 12:11

@HasaDigaEebowai re Costa Fortuna Grin

confusedandtired99 · 08/03/2020 12:11

I went away for 22 hours and the Coronavirus board now seems to have exploded with different threads... have I missed something?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/03/2020 12:13

GPwife2411 fingers crossed we don't find out how well the service runs because our kids don't get it in the first place!
