This is a good article - the graph in particular. Everyone needs to see that graph - a plot without and with intervention. It's very clear that it will be better for NHS with intervention. I can't believe they're doing nothing.

That graph should be front page news.

Also, UV does penetrate cloud thank god.

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 09:43

@confuddledtown
Just to monitor for 24 hours?
Surely they should go into self isolation?

Pppppickupapenguin · 08/03/2020 09:47

I'm fairly sure that my neighbours (4 adults) are self isolating. They went away skiing at half term - although I don't know where. Very fit and active family, always out and about. They haven't left the house for three days now and I can hear that two of them have an horrendous cough. One is a teacher and they all work in public facing roles.

Does anyone have Italy's number? Where were they 2 weeks ago, how many cases did they have then and how did there numbers rise.

Player had been in italy, had been in known contact with somebody with cv, was advised to isolate, had been tested and was awaiting results.

Played in football match, went for drinks after, 3 men who shared car to football match with him went on to a nightclub afterwards.

After match was over, results came back positive for cv. How utterly selfish can you be.

Statement from football club in picture attached.

I live 5 mins away from club, I am 6 months pregnant with asthma and diabetes. My eldest Dd also has asthma. Worried doesnt even cover it.

Can't believe that @Confuddledtown. So frustrating.

hoochymamgu · 08/03/2020 09:51

@usernameishistory thanks for the thread. Information backed up by links is so useful.
It's actually made me feel calmer Smile

Confuddledtown · 08/03/2020 09:51

@ofwarren its shocking. Surely with him being in known contact of cv they should have been monitoring him enough so that he couldn't have gone to play a football match?

SansaSnark · 08/03/2020 09:51

I agree that hope is important - but there are things to have hope about e.g. Existing antivirals helping with treatment, without having false hope.

For me, concrete action and facts are more important.

ChipotleBlessing · 08/03/2020 09:52

@FourTeaFallOut I’ll see if I can find them for you.

SnoozyLou · 08/03/2020 09:53

I'd also like to see this, if anyone has it please?

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 09:53

@georgeegg

Coronavirus in Italy:

1st Feburary: 2 cases, 0 deaths

20th February: 3 cases, 0 deaths

22nd Feburary: 62 cases, 2 deaths

28th February: 528 cases, 12 deaths

1st March: 1694 cases, 34 deaths

4th March: 3089 cases, 107 deaths

8th March: 5883 cases, 233 deaths & counting

mrshoho · 08/03/2020 09:53

just one irresponsible individual will now cause untold man hours and possible cases and community spread. I can understand your concerns @Confuddledtown

MissPoldark · 08/03/2020 09:56

Absolute selfish bastard!! It’s people like that who make me fear we’re all doomed.

RedToothBrush · 08/03/2020 09:59

A thought about places like India and Philippines and why they might not be reporting as many cases

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ageing_of_Europe#mediaviewer/File:Europe_population_over_65.png

Under 14 / 15 - 64 / Over 65
Phillipines: 31.7 % 63.5 % 4.8 %
India: 27.8 % 66.2 % 6.0 %

List of countries by age can be found here:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_age_structure

Europe has a particularly aged population so may well have more problems than less advanced nations merely due to sheer numbers of serious cases.

Are locations only being released once a week still?

Dunlurking · 08/03/2020 09:59

Following up on a post about zinc supplements. A virologist James Rob, who’s researched the Coronavirus family since the 70s is recommending taking zinc lozenges several times a day at the first hint of sore throat/cold coming on as the zinc in the back of the throat stops the virus multiplying in the throat and nasopharynx. He even suggests lying down while letting them dissolve as it coats the relevant area better. Got an email forwarded from a friend, which he had sent colleagues/friends, via a long chain of intermediaries (that include eminent doctors). So don’t ditch the zinc!

ofwarren · 08/03/2020 10:01

No, it's daily huggles but 24 hours behind.
We get yesterdays locations today.

@ofwarren

Thank you, those numbers are scary.
I hope we don't go the same way.

Do you have a list of our numbers so far, would be good to compare them.

Wehttam · 08/03/2020 10:01

So EasyJet website says that despite the lockdown they are still flying into airports within the zone. A quick look on tripadvisor forums and people STILL insisting on going to Venice, Milan etc in the coming days. How the F is this possible?! Theories on why this is going on?
