Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

@MissPoldark Yes, as it wasn't rationed, I was offended. I normally have about 30 loo rolls in the house anyway. It's not just two loos, it's the three adult bums that use them. Before I moved back to the UK recently, it was 4 loos, so always had plenty in. I'm in Cornwall, and even yesterday, there was loads of loo roll; sadly, no more of the 32 rolls in a pack on offer though. Froth away if it makes you feel better though. If I hadn't bought them, then someone else would have, and I'd be cursing myself when I ran out, or if my 79 year old Mum was confined to barracks and needed some.

It's force of habit living semi rurally with only a PO within walking distance. It pays to be prepared. Shall I tell you about my 42 cans of tomatoes? As they came back from abroad with me when I moved home last year, you can't be offended about those!

RoseMartha · 14/03/2020 16:50

My tesco was low on lots of stuff. I went in there to get Easter eggs as they are on offer and wanted to get before it ends as I cant afford them otherwise. But also needed kitchen roll and little pack tissues.

I noticed there was no loo roll, no pasta, no kitchen roll or tissues or tinned fish .
But had a few bottles of handwash and they were also low on soup and most tinned goods, washing up liquid, cleaning products and long life stuff.

I managed to get kitchen roll in lidl but not tissues. Both shops were as busy as Christmas time.

I'm on methotrexate so do pick up bugs. So it would be better for society if I only made necessary journeys. Except I can't stick to that, I need to go shopping. Your panic buying is just forcing the immunocompromised into the public, making extra work for others.

If I hadn't bought them, then someone else would have
Yes. Me or someone like me.

thegcatsmother · 14/03/2020 17:46

Vicious

1: Am not panic buying; just picking up stuff as I normally would if it's on offer, as I have space to store it.

2: In my household we have
1 x hole in the heart (ds)
1x Type 2 diabetic (dh)
1 x auto immune disease (me)

Add to that 1 elderly mother for whom I have responsibility if anything happens, who has asthma and is being investigated for possible chronic leukaemia. Far better that I have enough loo rolls for us all and can take stuff to Mum without her having to go to the shops when this gets worse, and can batch cook for her as well, so she doesn't have to go out.

As I said, living semi rurally, you get used to having a well stocked pantry/freezer/utility room.

I fail to see how my buying 2 packs of loo rolls (and I have an autoimmune disease which means I get everything going as well) forces you into the public domain. Surely your need for supplies does that. I choose to have enough food/supplies in for three weeks, to avoid going out more frequently.

PotholeParadise · 14/03/2020 17:51

I think that one 32-roll pack divided between each toilet would have been more than sufficient between three people.

thegcatsmother · 14/03/2020 17:57

@Pothole Do you? I don't. It might last a week. I'd prefer not to have to go to Tesco again in that time frame, and I don't dictate how many sheets should be used each time either.

PotholeParadise · 14/03/2020 17:59

A week?! Are you going to drip-feed something about bowel conditions now?

If your family of three can get through over ten rolls each over a week, I suggest you invest in a bidet.

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 18:08

What are you doing with it @thecatsmother? No way can one person use ten rolls a week. Just own your selfishness.

PotholeParadise · 14/03/2020 18:13

Making wedding dresses out of it?

thegcatsmother · 14/03/2020 18:19

Having just moved back from abroad where there were ancient bidets in the bathrooms, no thanks! Great for washing feet, but not a lot else.

I wipe myself when I go to the loo Alsohuman, as do ds and dh. Ds normally has a roll or two in his room in case of his sudden and spectacular nosebleeds. I use it for clearing up after the elderly cat if he shits on the floor, so it can go straight down the loo.

Just because you might not use that much loo roll, doesn't mean that others don't Alsohuman Having grown up with Izal, I like to use plenty of soft loo roll now.

PotholeParadise · 14/03/2020 18:30

They are currently out of stock, but in future, I think you should look into a subscription at: uk.whogivesacrap.org/collections/all

Alsohuman · 14/03/2020 18:58

There’s no bloody loo roll in the shops and somone using it to clear up catshit. I despair.

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 19:32

Depends where you live @Alsohuman . It's fine here . Lots available.

Though lots of social media hype.

"........having grown up with izal....."

Poor you Sad
Our next door neighbours used izal, we always had the soft stuff. I hated having to do a wee in my neighbours house when I was in next door playing with my friend.
I wouldn't mind but the next door neighbours owned a grocy shop so could have got the soft stuff at wholesale price.Shock

Upherefordancing · 14/03/2020 19:56

People are buying extra loo roll in case they have to stay in for weeks.

This drives me bonkers - in China and Italy lockdown doesn't mean you can't go to supermarkets!! It just means how regularly you can go is restricted and that only one person per household is allowed out at one time.

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 19:59

And my friend in Rome tells me they let 3 people in the shops at a time and it takes HOURS.

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 20:00

Rather have my loo roll in now thanks.

sleepingpup · 14/03/2020 20:02

And spend minimum shop time buying something more interesting.

copperoliver · 14/03/2020 21:44

Costco not got any either. X

AlmostAJillSandwich · 14/03/2020 21:46

Glad who gives a crap got mentioned on a few threads, managed to get a box, and some sanitiser from superdrug online.

TheSquitz · 15/03/2020 08:04

I went to Tesco yesterday. No rice, pasta. loo roll, beans etc I've just been over to the corner shop and they are well stocked with all of these, all at normal prices. They even had a shelf full of loo roll Shock

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/03/2020 08:17

Am I the only one (not read the entire thread) fed up with people posting that there's plenty where they are. I live in a genteel London borough and went to 6 supermarkets to get loo roll. Eventually got a pack of four from M&S (with stars on it FFS) - there were only five packs on the shelf. Nothing in Wilkos, two Sainsburys, Tesco (actual shop and online), Waitrose or Lidl.

SistemaAddict · 15/03/2020 12:50

Ooh I love the M&S star one!

It will be interesting to see what arrives in my online shop this week and next.

I think today I'll have a stock take of the brexit stash. Mum is doing the same.

Fleetheart · 15/03/2020 13:57

So... the people making money are the toilet roll manufacturers and the soap makers!

LadyEloise · 15/03/2020 14:05

BatshitCrazyWoman
M&S loo paper in the yellowpack is the best, for future reference. Wink
